Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.

Avatar m tn In the last 5 years I have realized that I get lower back, hip and leg pain. But here is the funny part...It only happens if I have gone without a workout for a week or two. Initially I thought it's not so bad, because it forced me to get back in the gym if I have been lazy for a while. But recently the amount of "off time" required to bring on the pain is decreasing. It's getting to the point that I literally cannot miss a single training session.
Avatar m tn It helps to build flexibility, muscle strength and helps to build up endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips and back. The exercises concentrate on spinal and pelvic alignment and breathing that helps in strengthening the body's centre. The exercises start off gently and the intensity increases as the body core strengthens. There is lots of information on Pilates on the web. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn If you can comfortably sleep on your side bend your knees up to release the stress on your lower back, or just rest in this position when it has been bothering you. Avatar f tn One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching. Dynamic flexibility, which is moving your muscles and joints within your full range of motion repetitively, should be performed before weightlifting because it stimulates higher neural activity and increases tissue elasticity.
Avatar m tn I got an mri scan just before Christmas, which showed the two lower disks in my back were bulging, the doctor told me to walk everyday to fix this problem, but one month on and the pain is ten times worse than it was before, I have been experiencing a continous spasm in my back for 3 days now, and can't so simple things, even walking is a chore. I am at a loss of what to do about this.
Avatar m tn Sorry, I hit the return key before I was finished. As I said, postures can cause spine disease (like arthritis), but surgical correction probably isn't the answer. Instead, look to noninvasive interventions you can make yourself. Be aware of your posture in all positions -- don't slouch. Strengthen those muscles that support the lower back, and you'll feel better.

Avatar m tn I have what I would consider to be relatively minor lower back problems caused by degeneration - the standard aging process. I am 58 years old. About once or twice a year my lower back muscles tighten or even spasm and then I go through a period of one to two weeks of recovery. Getting up from a sitting position is difficult, but once standing I have no problems walking. Since I have no problem or pain when walking should I continue to walk?

Avatar m tn If the dr said to do those exercises it would be to help you loosen that part of your back up. When the dr gives exercises like that it could very well be to help you in the future to avoid more problems. If you are doing that without his knowledge, yes you could cause more problems, even permanent problems.
Avatar f tn Put your right hand behind your back up between your shoulder blades. Lean your head to the right as far as you can with your ear toward your shoulder. Try to keep looking forward as you do this. Hold for a count of 20. Do the same with the left arm and lean to the left side. Do this about 5 times on each side. You can feel it stretching but its not painful. Sometimes, it feels good to me to slightly push my ear toward my shoulder by putting a little pressure on my head with my opposite hand.
Avatar m tn I have lower back pain on my left side, I am 21 and have had it in varying degrees since about the age of fourteen. it has always been in the same spot. Avatar m tn I stopped running but kept the job. It improved. I tried eliptical after two weeks off and at the end of the work week I was back to severe pain. I am working on strengthening my glutes and hip abductors. Strangely enough ice seems to make it immediately worse. So my cardio has to stop if I am going to keep my job. I have good insurance but good doctors often seem to fall short of helping me with several problems. Ibam a 40 year old male. I have not smoked in 5 years. I seldom drink.
