Common Questions and Answers about Flexibility exercises hip flexors

flexibility

Avatar f tn Hip flexors are a group of skeletal muscles that act to flex the femur onto the lumbo-pelvic complex, i.e., pull the knee upward. The hip flexors are considered to be the most important muscle in the running process. The hip flexors are more suseptible to tears if not strengthened when sprinting or kicking footballs.
Avatar f tn I have spasticity in my hip flexors...well I think it is spasticity. The flexors that are effected become very hard and painful and it feels like my hips are turning forward. The right side is definately worse. The more I walk, the more tired my legs get. I mentioned to my neuro that I had leg weakness. He tested my strength and said I have good strength. So is this just muscle fatigue and spasticity as opposed to weakness? I talked him into letting my try PT which I start Friday.
Avatar m tn Low back pain often occurs because of the tight hip flexors. These are muscles which support spine at the lower area? they help you to balance, sit and stand and support the core of your body. There is a great exercise program which i found on the internet, called Unlock your Hip Flexors and it really works. No more back pain. I advise you to try it.
Avatar m tn I have taken tons of advil, stayed off my feet as much as possible, and avoided exercises that aggravate my hip, but nothing is really making a difference. How do I find an effective way to heal my hip for good?
333672 tn?1273792789 My flexibility is okay for my age (although it seems worse to me than it used to be), but I have weakness in my hip flexors and in my ankle muscles. The latter apparently explains the weird thing I do where one foot strikes the other when I'm walking. My feet want to turn inward. In fact, it was watching me walk that tipped the physical therapist off to this problem. Then she asked me to swivel my feet outwards at the ankles and hold them there while she pushed them in.
Avatar m tn I started running in April. The hip tendonitis flared up after that. It's in the crease of the leg where the joint is. Once in awhile itnis bursitis on the outside of the hip. I started a new job unloading trucks and the hip tendonitis got out of control. I stopped running but kept the job. It improved. I tried eliptical after two weeks off and at the end of the work week I was back to severe pain. I am working on strengthening my glutes and hip abductors.

Range-of-motion and stretching exercises can help maintain flexibility in your joints and preserve good posture. Proper sleep and walking positions and abdominal and back exercises can help maintain your upright posture. Most people with ankylosing spondylitis don't need surgery.
Avatar f tn Leg lifts, lifting light weights are fine(under 12 lbs it says) pelvic tilts against a wall, hip flexors, squats. You can walk, or even jog if you normally exercise, yoga, pilates, etc. There are a bunch of different ways to stretch and exercise. Just dont over exert yourself and stay very hydrated.
Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.
522699 tn?1250590716 The core muscles need to be stronger so they can do some of the work and not let your back take all the load. Posture is also a big contributing factor to back pain which includes usually tight Hip Flexors muscles. Ab crunches is what you need to do with your back flat on the ground to take the back out of the picture. Keep your chin tucked in and if your neck gets sore then just support it a LITTLE bit while doing your crunches.
Avatar m tn I think you are absolutely right. Tight hip flexors are the reason that stretch usually hurts. Don't push it, you don't want to hurt yourself. However, I'd start to try to stretch (gently) your hip flexors specifically. Here's an article that has 5 stretches to try. https://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/fitness-hip-flexor-stretches#1 My son is a runner and soccer player. He had a hip flexor issue. He iced it and used arnica cream on it too.

6512149 tn?1385731267 Hip and leg problems are quite common - the hip flexors are often a weak point for us and we can often benefit from physical therapy and specific exercises. But that isn't always the case. The other problem we have is spasticity - that can cause the constant fatigue in the legs. Imagine you are in the car and you are pushing on the gas and the brake pedals at the same time. That push/pull effort is what spasticity can do to our bodies and the legs seem to be the primary target.
Avatar m tn You should consider doing some exercises to open up your hip flexors. Tight muscles in the hips can contribute to back pain from running.
Avatar f tn This time a PTA in the clinic felt the main problem was coming from tight hip flexors and a hypermobile SI joint. I was doing better with the exercises she gave me. Now to my current situation. In June I had a bout of vertigo so I had blood work done. My GP concluded that I probably have hashimoto's. I have been underactive for several years. She did not change my synthyroid dosage. Ever since the vertigo I have felt weaker and hip flexors seem to be tighter again.
Avatar f tn researchers at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, found out that subjects who performed passive or assisted stretching exercises showed no improvements in how they performed functional movement patterns, such as lunging, reaching and extending their hip from a standing position. They concluded that even though stretching did improve hip flexibility, there was no carryover to how well they move.
1701959 tn?1488551541 It is going to be vital for you to get regular massage during your pregnancy especially with the added weight and strain on your lower back. Hip flexors, gleuts, lower back muscles are key to keeping your spine healthy and without further injury during your pregnancy. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I have had intense pain on my lower back and hip flexors and my stomach has been tight all day along with cramping in my lower abdomine and i feel like I'm about to we my pants, but nothing comes out when i try to go...im 38+4 and am being induced this coming Tuesday, unless this is actual labor....
Avatar f tn IF you have a dodgy hip it is possibly related to it because foot drop is commonly associated with hip problems, hip flexors often end up weaker than other leg muscles so might be worth getting your physio to check if it is stemming from your hip or not, there are strengthening exercises, AFO's etc that can help compensate or even reverse the problem.
Avatar f tn But my concern is that using a desk cycle instead will only tighten my hip flexors more and exacerbate rather than improve the problems I already have. I may eventually get both a cycle and a treadmill, and alternate between the four (sit-stand-cycle-treadmill), or is the tightening effect of the cycle a big enough concern that I should ditch it entirely?
3102989 tn?1352383124 Finally last month the referee me to a hip preservation specialist who took a third set of x-rays at a different angle and was able to tell me within 10 minutes what my problem was. I have a mixed FAI or hip impingement of both hips. Currently I am doing exercises to attempt to strengthen my hip and have a follow up in a month but the pain is always there and is getting worse.
