Avatar f tn I have a problem with chronic pain in my left shin and have had bouts with plantar fastitis. Suddenly by shoe inserts to support my high arches feel awful. What are the right exercises and what else can I do?
Avatar n tn Stretching the front and back or your leg to increase the flexibility in your knee. Perform stretching exercises at the end of your workout when your muscles are warm. Stretch the front of your leg in a standing position by bending your knee and raising your foot up toward your backside. Grasp the ankle with your hand to enhance the stretch. Stretch the back of your legs in a seated position with your legs extended on the floor. Fold forward over your straight legs to stretch your hamstrings.
Avatar m tn I stopped running but kept the job. It improved. I tried eliptical after two weeks off and at the end of the work week I was back to severe pain. I am working on strengthening my glutes and hip abductors. Strangely enough ice seems to make it immediately worse. So my cardio has to stop if I am going to keep my job. I have good insurance but good doctors often seem to fall short of helping me with several problems. Ibam a 40 year old male. I have not smoked in 5 years. I seldom drink.
Avatar f tn I have a friend who is a physical therapist and said the key is following through with the knee exercises daily the first year and as needed weekly from then on but remember to ice pack the knee following exercise. I am still unable to work at a job that requires walking or standing. I was a real estate agent and had to quit after 11 years. I am worried that is may have come loose.
Avatar n tn Perform at least one form of weight-bearing aerobic exercise at least three days a week. For example, start with taking 20 minute brisk walks. Walk fast enough so that you're breathing hard. To achieve aerobic benefits and promote weight loss, you should exercise hard enough so that you can speak a few words but not carry on a conversation.
Avatar f tn Research has shown that stretching can inhibit your performance and doesn't reduce your risk of injury. One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching.
Avatar n tn Tai Chi is another recommended exercise. You can look at the arthritis foundation web site to find programs in your area designed for arthritis patients.
Avatar f tn I know walking is a good exercise, and this might be an obvious answer to the question but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of exercises I could do to maintain my weight. Im paranoid if i gain too much weight my baby will be too big and cause difficulties during labor which terrifies me..Im wanting to avoid a c section so bad!
Avatar m tn Over the last 2 years I have built up the muscles in my feet and have increased flexibility with daily stretches and exercises but still suffer from painful cramp in my arches and toes. It seems to occur when my toes are pointed for long periods of time as I tend to tense my feet quite hard.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know of gentle exercises to get my stamina up? I have bad knees, and rheumatoid arthritis in my back so I'm not super flexible. Want to get extra weight off to help improve health...
Avatar m tn ve been diligent with my physical therapy and I have full flexibility in the leg. I can bend the leg at the knee and I can fully extend it. I can put weight on the leg and the doctor no longer requires me to wear the surgical boot. I still need to use a cane or crutches to get around. How long does it take for the tibia fracture to fully heal, and is there anything I can do to quicken the healing process on my own other than exercises and physical therapy? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I am trying to find a workout video to help keep my strength and mobility. I have tried a yoga class. Did not do so well at it and personally didn't care for it. Any suggestions? Thank You.
Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.
Avatar n tn Whenever my wrists are in extension and bear the load of my bodyweight the top part at the joint has a sharp pain. My wrists aren't very mobile, so I'm thinking it could be in part due to that. However, both of my wrists are equally immobile/inflexible, but only the right one has the dorsal pain (which leads me to believe it's a stability or strength issue in that wrist). My main question is what kind of exercises should I do to fix this pain?
Avatar f tn Hello everyone I need some advice. For months I have been doing yoga and Pilates with great hope that it will give me my balance back. I really enjoy them but my question is. Has exercise or these helped anyone in gaining if not most at least some of there balance. I wonder if I'm wasting my time.

Range-of-motion and stretching exercises can help maintain flexibility in your joints and preserve good posture. Proper sleep and walking positions and abdominal and back exercises can help maintain your upright posture. Most people with ankylosing spondylitis don't need surgery.
968857 tn?1247600450 If someone has shown you correct lifting techniques and exercises then using canned food at home as weights could be another option. I'm not sure what age the doctor here would suggest would be an appropriate age for that. Is walking around the block at home an option? Too scary?? Too long?? (Our block is approx. 20 km). If you have flights of stairs at home walking up and down them could be good exercise.
Avatar m tn I have been to quite a few sports medicine doctors, and they have mostly told me the same thing, that I need to work on flexibility and strengthening of the VMO - However, even with aggressive PT and dedication these problems never seem to go away. So any other suggestions will be much appreciated, and thanks in advance to everyone!
Avatar n tn After no improvement I visited a physiotherapist that forced my arm to bend (joint mobilization) and gave me stretching exercises that I should do each day for 2 weeks. The first few days flexibility improved gradually, but then the bursitis came back. I had an X-ray exam but the doctor said that it only showed my old trauma and nothing new. Doctor noted: "Active ROM: slightly reduced extension and great reduction of flexion. Passive ROM: soft endfeel on both extension and flexion.

Avatar m tn Then to add insult to injury, he signed my back to work paperwork and made it the day after I had this surgery and refused to change it. Need less to say, my first day back at work was a little rough. Now, after saying all of this, here are my questions. 1) Is too good of a blood flow a reason why this procedure fails? Is it normal to not do anything until a big hole develops versus when it is just forming? 2) is it normal to have no and I mean no flexibility.
Avatar m tn I also suffer from a neuromuscular weakness of the lungs - I was sent to pulmonary rehab - there I found out that I could use the Nu Step while sitting as soon as I was to go on the tread mill in less than 3 mins my bp dropped drastically and my heart rate soared. So as long as I sit and exercise I am okay.

Avatar f tn I also started swimming for the first time (every night) and started running (from never really running at all to 5km most mornings). I also joined a gym as well as doing body weight exercises at home such as squats, planks and sit ups. I also started teaching which meant I was standing most of the day. After running my hip sometimes felt a bit strange but I thought nothing of it. After a run one morning my one knee felt a bit strange too so I decided to give running a rest.
