Good conditioning exercises for people with rheumatoid arthritis include low-impact activities like walking, swimming, bicycling, or using an elliptical machine. Any of these will get your heart pumping. you should try to do 20 to 30 minutes of low-impact conditioning exercise on as many days as you feel you can. More is better, but any amount is better than none at all!
Avatar n tn sorry to say but it sounds like garden variety, age-related arthritis. I have the same thing. Flexibility exercises help me. See your general practitioner or a rheumatologist for more info.
Avatar f tn It just means that she’s developed a lot of arthritis in her C-spine. Degenerative changes refer to changes over time as opposed to trauma. The mild decrease in vertebral body height is something that happens to people as they age as well as the disc space narrowing. Spinal discs lose water and shrink as we age, which causes disc space narrowing. One of her bone spurs (arthritis) is probably compressing a nerve, that’s what’s causing her arm pain.

Stretch the front of your leg in a standing position by bending your knee and raising your foot up toward your backside. Grasp the ankle with your hand to enhance the stretch. Stretch the back of your legs in a seated position with your legs extended on the floor. Fold forward over your straight legs to stretch your hamstrings.

Avatar m tn I am very active and cycle about 5 hours a week and about 5 hours a week of more weight bearing exercise. I have not been able to regain full flexibility to the knee, I am lacking 10 degrees of motion. I ice my knee most every day after exercising. I completed a series of 3 shots of Euflexxa about 6 weeks ago and have felt no difference from that. I started physical therapy twice a week for the last three weeks which lasts about 1.
Avatar m tn Over the last 2 years I have built up the muscles in my feet and have increased flexibility with daily stretches and exercises but still suffer from painful cramp in my arches and toes. It seems to occur when my toes are pointed for long periods of time as I tend to tense my feet quite hard.
Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.
Avatar f tn I have a problem with chronic pain in my left shin and have had bouts with plantar fastitis. Suddenly by shoe inserts to support my high arches feel awful. What are the right exercises and what else can I do?

Avatar f tn Also that pneumonia you had (could have been clamydia pneumonia, which is called that, but is NOT from sexually transmitted clamydia) and can also cause the reactive arthritis. I have done extensive research on this arthritis and also the ankylosing spondylitis in past few weeks and you should have rheumatologist look at these. I have spine pain now. I also wake up in morn worse, like someone has punched me in upped back. My hip/butt (sacroiliac bone still hurts).
184674 tn?1360860493 This is more of a woe-is-me vent session than anything, but I'm hurting...! Sleeping comfortably has become quite an issue for me since about a week and a half ago. I finally got past the point of waking up two or three times a night to pee, and slept wonderfully for about a week or so, and now... I can't even get a good night's rest because there is no position to sleep that's comfortable.
Avatar f tn t get swollen joints or rashes like with most cases of Rheumatoid Arthritis. My spine specialist thinks it is because of my flexibility and told me to do 4-5x/week of strength training. Other than that, he says he can't do anything else at this point and he isn't recommending I see a Rheumatologist yet. I have been seeing this doctor for probably 6-8 months. My joints just hurt so bad and the pain travels between all of them and I don't know what to do at this point.
Avatar m tn ve been diligent with my physical therapy and I have full flexibility in the leg. I can bend the leg at the knee and I can fully extend it. I can put weight on the leg and the doctor no longer requires me to wear the surgical boot. I still need to use a cane or crutches to get around. How long does it take for the tibia fracture to fully heal, and is there anything I can do to quicken the healing process on my own other than exercises and physical therapy? Thank you.
15502615 tn?1440995053 Your doctor may recommend that you meet with a physical therapist to provide you with specific exercises designed for your needs. Range-of-motion and stretching exercises can help maintain flexibility in your joints and preserve good posture. Proper sleep and walking positions and abdominal and back exercises can help maintain your upright posture. Most people with ankylosing spondylitis don't need surgery.
Avatar n tn My right arm was normal with no decreased flexibility. There was no pain, and I just figured the problem with the left arm was reduced flexibility due to aging. Then about 4-5 months ago, I noticed that the range of motion had reduced even more. Maybe a few more inches. Still no real pain. This basically only affected the ability to reach behind my back and wash it in the shower. Up until that time, it never entered my mind that something could be wrong with my shoulder/upper arm.
Avatar m tn Think alignment and technique. Ask your doctor or physical therapist about flexibility and strength exercises to optimize your technique for jumping, running and pivoting — and to help the patella track properly in its groove. Especially important is exercise for your outer hip muscles to prevent your knee from caving inward when you squat, land from a jump, or step down from a step. Lose excess pounds. If you're overweight, losing the extra weight relieves stress on your knees. Warm up.
Avatar f tn One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching. Dynamic flexibility, which is moving your muscles and joints within your full range of motion repetitively, should be performed before weightlifting because it stimulates higher neural activity and increases tissue elasticity.
Avatar n tn After no improvement I visited a physiotherapist that forced my arm to bend (joint mobilization) and gave me stretching exercises that I should do each day for 2 weeks. The first few days flexibility improved gradually, but then the bursitis came back. I had an X-ray exam but the doctor said that it only showed my old trauma and nothing new. Doctor noted: "Active ROM: slightly reduced extension and great reduction of flexion. Passive ROM: soft endfeel on both extension and flexion.
Avatar n tn My 80 year old mother had TKR surgery last week. She says when she stands or sits for any length of time, her foot hurts and she must lay down to relieve the pain. The doctor said this is typical because of blood rushing to the foot and recommended putting the support sock on. Has anyone else experienced this? Everyone is impressed with her flexibility and she's doing her exercises regularly but this pain has really gotten her concerned and regrets getting the surgery.
