Flexeril is it a narcotic

Common Questions and Answers about Flexeril is it a narcotic

flexeril

Avatar n tn YOU SURE CAN. IT IS POSSIBLE TO DEVELOP A DEPENDENCY ON MUSCLE RELAXERS AS WITH NARCOTICS. IF A PERSON IS ALREADY DEALING WITH A PHYSICAL DEPENDENCY, THEY SHOULD NOT TAKE ANOTHER MOOD/MIND-ALTERING MEDICATION UNLESS RECOMMENDED AND MONITORED BY A PHYSICIAN. I HAVE BEEN A DRUG COUNSELOR FOR 35 YEARS, BELIEVE ME, I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.
Avatar f tn Flexeril is not addictive if you use it only when needed I took it for years for a bad back but you dont get hi on it so for the most part if taken as directed your ok just stay away from soma that is a different story...................................Gnarly.....................................
232328 tn?1207090071 It is not addictive. It will make you very sleepy, it is a muslce relaxer. I reccommend taking it only before bed. If it doesn't make you sleepy than take it during the day as well.
Avatar m tn So I do not have a lot of experience with medications, and I am not knowledgeable about anxiety disorders. All I do know is how Flexeril affected me, and that is why I think it is the culprit and source of your father's problems. I did a little research at the time Flexeril caused me suicidal ideation, and I read other stories like mine. Everyone is different and brain pharmacology is an interesting, infinite abyss.
Avatar f tn They eventually started me on narcotic pain meds and for the last 2-3 years I have been on 20mg oxycontin 1x day, 15mg oxycodone 4x day, flexeril 1x day and cambia as needed (insurance only allowed 9 a month). Oh, forgot to mention I was in a car accident in 2003. Some issues with my c4-c6. Docs assumed this is where the headaches were coming from. Due to my husband's job, we had to move overseas.
Avatar m tn ( never that many at a time) I would think if his spasms are severe enough to do that he would go to a dr. or the ER. I hope he is ok....but the guy neeeds help and only a dr can do it....It may be from a chemical imbalance that he is getting the spasms...and no muscle relaxer will do anything for that long term.
Avatar f tn The only thing I am aware of is Ibuprofen 800 mg every 6 to 8 hours. I am not a doctor, just a patient.
Avatar m tn It is great because after a few initial doses, it no longer made me sleepy! Good thing too, it comes in generic!
Avatar f tn flexeril is not a drug of abuse as a norm..and good for u...made it thru to day 5..
Avatar n tn I came across some soma and really do not know what it is for. is it a narcotic? is it addictive?
Avatar f tn The residual symptoms of insomnia and depression can last another few months. Thus, it is not easy, but it gets better and better over time and you can look forward to a drug free healthy energetic you in the future. When you take opiates for a long time like you have, your body's physiology has been altered.
Avatar m tn I doubt the Flexeril is a contributing factor. It is one of the tamer muscle relaxants and I have never had a problem with it. Actually it didn't do much for me and I was on far higher amts with other things -- didn't help much w/spasms, phase me or help with sleep. (I may have developed a huge tolerance for things.) Apparently SOMA is addictive so if the dr suggests that you might reconsider. Then again it seems everyone thinks everything is addictive.
Avatar m tn The oxy alone is not working for the pain I wouldnt have mind trying the Flexeril but I read seizure is a side effect? if it is I am a leery if it is not a side effect I am willing to try it. The info i find is contradicting.... Thanks again for any help on this last question on if Flexeril is a seizure risk!
Avatar m tn Celebrex is a medication similar to aspirin, ibuprophen, and many others in a class called NSAID for Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug. Weight gain is not one of the side effects of NSAIDs. Perhaps since you are having less pain, you are eating better or getting more exercise? Muscle tissue weighs more than fat. Or perhaps your disability is making you less active and causing the weight gain.
Avatar m tn Soma is not a narcotic. It is a class 4 controlled substance in the U.S. as of 2012, but belongs to a class of medications called muscular skeletal relaxants. It's generic name is carisoprodol with a maximum tablet of 350mg. Being a controlled substance ID is required right pick it up from the pharmacy and fill dates are very closely monitored.
Avatar m tn With Flexeril, yes it works but depends on what you taking along with it. For example don't take it with a benzo like xanax. Baclofen is very good. I even read that in higher doses it can be used for addictions like alcohol and maybe heroin. It was in the Wikipedia site for it. Was very i teresting read.
Avatar f tn I know Lidoderm is a Non-Narcotic Medication used as a local anesthetic. It numbs the area of the pain. It's usually used for things like shingles. I wouldn't think of it as dangerous, I think it's pretty safe. I do know dentists use it for dental procedures as well, pulling teeth and such!
Avatar n tn I'm worried! My fiancee' has been prescribed Tramadol, which worked very well for him but he has gone through 40 pills in 10 days and the way his dr. wrote his script it says "use 1-2 tablets every 8 hours as needed" so he cannot get a refill for another 2 weeks. He saw a local dr. who prescribed Flexeril, Percocet and Naproxen.
Avatar m tn Seeing an orofacial pain specialist is advised.
Avatar m tn errrr I can be a little self destructive. Going back on a narcotic is not an option. My doctor was impressed that I was able to just stop cold turkey when he wanted me to wean. A few days ago, I decided I was in too much physical pain and started researching non-narcotic pain killers. My pain doctor prescribed Lyrica about a year ago, but I wanted to stick to my Hydro/Tram/Benzo cocktail at that time.
1069827 tn?1296650628 I am on day 20 of no tram in my system and I am still suffering from withdrawl symptoms. Even though the dr tell us it is non-narcotic, it still has ALL of the addictive properties. It even has an antidepressant, in it, that also causes wd's. I was diagnosed in 1994 with fibro and I have been on just about everything known to man, from narcotics to Lyrica to muscle relaxants to injections. Nothing has seemed to work for me.
Avatar f tn Olanzapine, (Zyprexa) is NOT a narcotic.
Avatar f tn Tramadol is highly addictive and about to become a classified narcotic, as it is more dangerous to suddenly withdraw from than heroin, like many of the sedatives out there, even tho it is technically a synthetic narcotic - be careful because that addiction can just sneak up on you! and Steve, I hear you. I was taking 40 of them a day and the only thing that got me off them was suboxone, which unfortunately I am still taking 3 years later.
Avatar f tn I need to retract that. Fioricet is not an opiate but it is considered a narcotic drug in that it produces stupor, coma, and insensitivity to pain. It is,also, scheduled as any other narcotic.
