I have been on methadone for 90 days, I take 100 mg every other day. How long and how server will my withdrawals be, if I go cold turkey and stop.
I applaud your resolve to get clean, but want to caution you that methadone is a long acting narcotic and your withdrawal symptoms will stick around for quite a while. You will feel rotten for as long as four to six weeks. You may want to switch to something shorter acting, talk to your doctor about it, and taper off of that. There is really no easy way of detoxing from home. I have dealt with hundreds of addicts who have all told me horror stories of doing it by themselves.
Just in case you are curious, it takes us three to four days to detox a patient from methadone or any other opiate and get him/her back home drug free and feeling well on Naltrexone therapy (no opiates). You will probably need an antidepressant such as a Prozac for after detox to prevent post acute withdrawal depression, which you are most likely prone to.
I havent taken any in 2 years.I am going to go to dr and try some non narc stuff later and back on flexeril maybe..Right now the most important thing is healing from the methadone. One day at a time..Later I will take care of the pain.try the things sugeested and let yourself heel.I realized after getting the tabs out of my system that a lot of the pain was from them.We have to heal our bodies, everything elae will come..Take care of that baby and keep us posted..Hugs.
See if this doctor can write you a prescription for some Gabapentin for anxiety and general malaise, Requip for restlessness, some Flexeril or Soma for a few weeks for muscle spasms and maybe some Seroquel low dose 25-50mg for sleep. It will make withdrawals easier. You can try ibuprofen 600mg for pain. Please don't start taking the any opiates again as it will only throw you back into withdrawals once you stop again, or make you relapse.
They also last a very long time, which leads me into my question, i have heard of Horror stories about Methadone withdraw lasting over a month and being worse then Heroin. Im ready to quit, and am prepared to deal with the Normal Vicoden withdraw that usally lasts about 8-10 days, but im not ready to handle over a month of withdraws.
It has been a few days, I finally had the courage and am down to 10mg of methadone, had a little problem sleeping last night but am doing good!! Maybe another drop soon, I'll wait it out a few more days and then do it again. My kids are gone for spring break, but not long enough for me to just go cold turkey....I want this over!!
I tried twice to drop the Oxy's and the Methadone cold turkey. It lasted about 2 weeks and ended with me in full blown seizures and nearly dying twice. Anyone considering using Methadone to come off Oxy's, Roxy's, Lori's, Perc's, Vike's, Tab's or Hydrocodone.....Trust me, I've had em all...Been prescribed em all and I would never again do what I did thinkin it would be easier or better for me.
I was on methadone about 5 years and took about a year and a half to tapper down from 75 mgs to 3mgs. I was horrified to discover after coming down so slowly to such a tiny amount that I had withdrawal. It has been a week now and I still feel badly. any Ideas?
Hi Lucy So, I had the same thing happen....I was given flexeril and tramadol for back/neck pain. So, I might just be strange, but I got hooked on tramadol after 4 a day for a little over 2 weeks. I wasn't mentally hooked, but when I stopped I thought I was going to die. I actually went to the doctor because I was just convinced I had the flu. It turns out it was wd from the tramadol. But that's just me......just a warning to be careful!
I wish this was the worst it would get, but im sure it will probably hit me at Day 7 like you all said yesterday, still sleeping good so far, taking flexeril, quinine, and melatonin b4 bed, the part i hate the most is your arm and legs muscle drawing up and cramping waking you up in the middle of the night, ive been waiting for that to happen, but nothing yet, thank you all for your support!!
c o m . and you will find much info as this doctor is a recovering methadone addict,he's been there, done that and has very good advice .good luck.

I do not believe that switching from methadone to Suboxone is an answer.Suboxone is an opiate and is extremely addictive. People find it just as difficult to taper and quit. One of the patients in our clinic, who we had to detox from Suboxone, was so addicted, that no matter how far down she titrated this drug she could not get off. At one point she was literally just licking the 1 mg strip, but she could not give it up. I find that most have the same problem with both of these drugs.
I was an opiate addict for about 4 years, and nowI've been taking 30-40 mg of methadone a day for the past 4-5 years. I began the weaning process last September and now I comfortably take 2.5 mg every 5 days. Yesterday would have been the fifth day but I thought I felt good enough to skip it so I did, but last night I immediately felt the withdrawals and barely slept. I know it is such a low dose, but any suggestions on the best way to wean off now?
I have 10 more vic 7.5 . I also have 15 methadone 5mg . Is it true the methadone will stop the w/d or at least help? and how sould I go about it??? thanks for any help you all can give!!

It can take 6 weeks or even longer to completely get the Methadone out of your system and the withdrawal is so bad you'll wish you were dead. It's because Methadone is stored in your liver and released as your body requires the need for it. Other Opiods are not stored in your body this way, that's why people become immune to other pain meds and need more and more to relieve their pain. I've been on the same dosage for 13 years with no problems.
I was on methadone for almost 7 yrs and was dosing at 150mg I weened of for 8 1/2 months and jumped off at 1mg ....what your going threw is prity normal for methadone....it takes a lot longer to detox off of then the pills just know you will get better for me the first 2 weeks where plagued with symptoms but gradually they went away only to leave me in this energy crash that seamed to last forever...
) he also gave me clonidine and flexeril. I am worried about taking anything at this point though, but because of no sleep this 15th day I decided to take the lortab. I have chronic pain that makes high blood pressure as well, untreated, but i will never take methadone again. ever... yes it took all the pain away, but what a dragon. I would also like to thank the one dude who said to smoke pot and masturbate... it was the only laugh i had in two weeks...
When attempting to take days off of the drug completely I become extremely weak, have nausua, and have no energy. yada yada...withdrawel. I may have the option to obtain methadone and was wondering if these is a safe and effective way of coming off of this opiate. About 3 weeks ago I took 10mg methadone each day for 7 days and it really helped.

Was thinking of Goin on methadone for only a little while long enough to save some money and go to detox. I would prefer to go cold turkey right now and get a naltrexone implant, but don't have money saved for rehab or my bills. What should I do? Will being on methadone make it harder it get off it in detox. Will it make it better to get on methadone for 4 months the go to detox? I've heard Goin off subs after years of being on it is really hard. I want a drug free life!
