Never heard about that association directly, BUT muscle relaxants are narcotics and as such slow digestion. A slower digestion may mean more pressure on the LES due to (a) large meals, and/or (b) pressure on the abdomen (due to exertion, belly fat, or both), which would, over time, weaken it.
You may do well simply to follow a GERD diet (especially the part about "smaller, more frequent meals").
That doesnt necessarily have to be your issue per se.. Though yes meds can cause changes to blood pressure and heart rate its impossibke to definitively know without the appropriate testing.
Doctors aren't allowed tk diagnose something unkess they're reasonably sure thats the cause.
Emergency doctors will refer you back to a family doctor or cardiologist once they rule that you don't have an emergency.
I went to see my pcp and I also got blood work done. It appears my wbc was decreased. I researched the web and found that Flexeril and Benadryl, two meds I’ve been taking since I started working nights and my back pain became unbearable can cause low wbc. I’ve stopped taking both and I am starting to feel better but not back to myself yet and it’s already been 2 weeks since I stopped. I’m guessing this meds are still in my body. I plan to repeat my lab work in a few months.
For some reason I checked my blood pressure and it was very high. I have never, ever in my lifetime had any problems with my blood pressure. I called my doctor yesterday and spoke to her nurse which was a waste of time. She sounding as if she needed to go back to school. I was advised they were getting ready to close and that if it did not go down in 20 minutes go to the emergency room and that was it. I relaxed and it went up and down. My blood pressure never did go down alot yesterday.
Clonodine (a blood pressure medicine) has been helpful with the chills and RLS symptoms. The only drawback is that I have cotton mouth like crazy and could sleep sitting up right now. However the WD's are much less severe this time--I am on day 3. I didn't have the guts to ask a doctor for the script, so I ordered it through a foreign pharmacy that seemed legitimate (BEWARE there are many fakes out there).

I am asking because i am hanving jaw tension and pain now and want to take the flexeril but i am afraid it might trigger my hyop tyroidism.
My big fear is epilepsy Oxy use to make me shake and bite my tongue but since i been on 200mg Lamictal it has stopped I read Flexeril may cause seizure but then I also read the opposite.
Even if I am not epileptic I like to play it safe as my Doc is out, and the pharmacy worker never seems to know anything.
So does Flexeril increase seizure risk or is that just for (diagnosed) epileptics?
I don't want to add it to the oxy and have a attack.
My back is really bothering me!! Hurts so bad and can't relax for anything!! I'm 35 weeks and really want to! Has anyone taken a muscle relaxer or even a half of one?
I've had bad lower back, tailbone, and pelvic pain. My doctor prescribed flexiril and pain meds. I take them as needed, I usually take half of a muscle relaxer though cause they make me so sleepy!
a little more info but the short answer is yes with a prescription and yes if it is available in the home and yes from friends. Do you take flexeril? Who suggested it? What does your child need it for?
I ask this way because of the ongoing epidemic of Prescription drug abuse by children who get it at home or from friends who get it at home etc. And you did good asking but better to ask your doc. So fill us in and put your pills in a secure Secure place! Looking forward to hearing from you.
BP is usually normal, started having headaches from a pinched nerve in my neck (occipital neuralgia) and from my first dr visit for that my blood pressure has gradually ramped up. Only meds I'm taking are gabapentin, flexeril and tylenol. Non of which are suppose to mess with blood pressure.
I have been to my dr and was put on hydrochlorothiazide 25mg daily, that was 3 days ago. Anybody else that uses this, how long before it started to do it's thing?
Hi, my husband is disabled with chronic severe back/leg/hip pain from multiple failed surgeries and and one of his pain management meds is Flexeril, that Clean mentioned. He too gets wicked muscle spasms and takes the Flexeril for that. It helps him. I am an opiate addict (for effect) but do get bad lower back pain at night, probably from carrying 60 pounds on my small frame during pregnancy...and I am getting older.
You are right, certain medications particularly muscle relaxants and antichlinergics, interfere with the results of EMG like baclofen and flexeril or cyclobenzaprine that you are taking. It would be prudent to apprise your neurologist of all the medications you are on, so that the EMG results are appreciated in that light. Muscle biopsy can be taken up after an EMG. Consult your neurologist for his preferences and expertise. Take care.
I have been suffering from on and off again lower back pain and sciatica for the past year. I also have GAD, BPH,and high blood pressure. I went to see the Ortho today and he prescribed 10mg hyro and 10 mg Flexeril until I can schedule PT again. I am going to make sure to go through all 3 weeks so that my cheap insurance will pay for an MRI. I had one a little over a year ago thatt revealed a bulged disc at L4 or L5...can't remember which.
