Fishy vaginal odor

Common Questions and Answers about Fishy vaginal odor

vagina

I'm a 28 yr old woman and for the past 2 months, I've had a fishy vaginal smell during and right after intercourse. I've noticed that if I put my finger in my vagina and wipe it dry the smell left behind is a fishy smell, but other than that it is only noticable during or after intercourse. I'm in a monogamous relationship with the same man for the past 7 years and have never had anything like this happen.
I experienced a fishy smelling type of odor one night that both my boyfriend and I were aware of. I have been having sex every day for the past three months. Prior to that, I was not sexually active for three years. I am a 49 year old woman and have never experienced this before. It lasted one night, then seemed to disappear. Is this normal to come and go like that?
I have been having a fishy odor after my fiancé ejaculates inside me. It lasts for a couple of days sometimes longer and then it goes away. It also comes with a heavy discharge. Help is there something wrong?
Hello, This fishy smell can be due to bacterial vaginosis. In addition to unpleasant "fishy" vaginal odor, thin white or yellowish discharge from vagina may also be present. Diagnosis can be confirmed after pelvic examination and microscopic examination of the vaginal discharge. Treatment is by metronidazole and clindamycin. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
I had anal & vaginal sex and now have a fishy odor coming from my vagina as well as a light period so what can I do to cure this immediately?!!!
I recently have had sex with my boyfriend of three months and have experienced a strong odor on one occasion which was very strong and fishy smelling like. Since that one particular incident i have not had a problem. Does this come and go on its own. I do not douche either. Should I. I am 49 years old and have sex everyday and bathe regularly.
I have noticed several times in the past year that i have had vaginal odor ....fishy smell. I have been with the same man for a year so i dont think its an std. the first time i had this odor, i went to the doctor and had test done. my test came back fine. the smell just goes away after a while...not sure what to do.
If you only experienced this odor once, and it has resolved, then I would not worry too much about it. If the odor returns or if you notice unusual discharge or pain when you are having sex, then you should see your ob/gyn to rule out any kind of vaginal infection. Good luck.
Genital Odor Ever since I was a little girl I've always had a fishy odor in my vagina. I'm a clean person, I shower every day and don't use soaps that will harm me. I am 20 years old and still have that smell. I always went to doctors as a kid to see if they had a solution but I always got the same answer, to wash very well. I have no idea what it is.
Hello, recently the past 4 times my husband and I have had sex, I have had a very foul odor coming from my vagina. It's not a fishy/yeast smell, it's more of a smelly BM smell. I have NEVER had this smell before! I am so embarissed when my husband and I have sex! I am very clean and have been taking showers right before intercourse. I don't smell at all during the day during my normal routine. It's just as my husband inserts his penis into me,I get this horrible smell! Please Help!!!
Diabetes too can increase the chances of vaginal infections and foul smelling discharge. A fishy odor that is felt most after sex or washing with soap goes in favor of bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial vaginosis is usually caused by Gardnerella vaginalis bacteria or a combination of bacteria. A decrease in the good bacterial flora (lactobacillus) and an increase in infection causing bacterial is the cause. It is not clear how the infection comes.
My OBGYN said my husband's semen would actually change the pH of my vagina, so he was smelling HIS semen after a night in my vagina. A bad fishy odor is probably a bacterial STD, so watch out for that. I would still suggest an appointment with your OBGYN, but ask about the change in pH and get tested for STD's, just in case.
I am 16 years old, and i've started to have a pretty strong vaginal odor. It started about five to seven months ago, and i usually have a little bit of milky white discharge that smells sour. I bathe everyday, but after an hour or two the smell is back. The discharge dries a yellowish color on my underwear, and the smell seeps into my clothing so i feel uncomfortable doing some normal activities. It doesn't itch, and it's progressively gotten worse.
Hello, These symptoms can be due to bacterial vaginosis or TD’s if you are sexually active. They are available as pills or vaginal gels or creams. Please do not use any vaginal douches. Hello, Bacterial vaginosis is the most common cause of abnormal vaginal odor and discharge. It is caused by a change in the type of bacteria found in the vagina. The exact cause for the change in type of bacteria is still not known, but it is can be due to IUD’s,multiple sex partners or having intercourse with a new partner. In addition to unpleasant "fishy" vaginal odor, thin white or yellowish discharge from vagina may also be present.
The only thing I can think of regarding foul odor from the vaginal area is that there is something going on in the PH balance. It could be an underlying infection that has gone un-noticed, which is quite possible. It could be anything from a yeast infection, UTI (urinary tract infection), or anything else... It may be advantageous to see your ob/gyn as soon as you can, at least to rule out an infection...
After getting my pap smear, the doctor told me that she noticed some yeast but she said that for the most part, yeast infections shouldn't really cause a fishy vaginal odor. She prescribed me some pill that i only had to take once and was supposed to clear my yeast infection all up so I took that already and then I had to wait to see if the doctor called me back to let me know if anything turned up in my urine sample.
i had never had problems with any type of odor. with my ex bf we shared the same odor like his penis would smell like my vagina and vise versa. with my current bf who ive been with for a year and i half i started having problems. at first it was normal. later on i started having wierd odors. theyr not fishy or overly disgusting but they are disturbing. i went to the doctor a while back but she said she couldn fully examine me bcuz of something about my insurance.
I've had a strong vaginal odor for a pretty long time. I'm a very clean person I shower twice a day even more when I'm on my period. I've never had sex so I don't know why it smells. It's a sweaty fishy smell, and I talked to my mom about it she said that I'm worrying about it too much. She finally took me to the doctor, it wasn't a gynocologist. The doctor did some tests for BV and all that other stuff, and it came back negative. I also shaved down there a few times and got these bumps.

My roommate wears pantyliners everyday. They have a very very fishy strong odor that you can smell coming out of the waste basket. She went to the gyno FINALLY (after 8 years), she is not sexually active (shes a virgin) and she said everything was fine after the check up. She talked to the doctor about the problem and the doctor said it was because she is overweight. She wasn't prescribed anything for this and I have 2 concerns on the matter.
Vaginal discharge which smells fishy could possibly a condition called bacterial vaginosis which is an overgrowth of abnormal bacteria. I suggest that you see your doctor to diagnose it and make sure that you do not have any other problems. If is it bacterial vaginosis--this not a sexually transmitted disease and it can be easily treatment with oral anitbiotics called Metronidazole or by Metronidazole vaginal cream. However, you should see your doctor to address your concern.
