Common Questions and Answers about Fishy vaginal discharge

vagina

So than do you think this discharge is vaginal? It could be vaginitis or a urinary tract infection and an antibiotic would therefore be needed, this could be causing her alot of discomfort and needs to be checked out by a Vet, who would do a swab of the fluid to see what exactly it is and if bacteria is present. I really hope you can take her to a Vet clinic and have this looked after. http://www.petplace.com/cats/vaginal-discharge-in-cats/page1.

Vaginal discharge which smells fishy could possibly a condition called bacterial vaginosis which is an overgrowth of abnormal bacteria. I suggest that you see your doctor to diagnose it and make sure that you do not have any other problems. If is it bacterial vaginosis--this not a sexually transmitted disease and it can be easily treatment with oral anitbiotics called Metronidazole or by Metronidazole vaginal cream. However, you should see your doctor to address your concern.
It requires antibiotics instead of vaginal suppositories. In both cases discharge often accompanies the smell (cottage cheese white for yeast infections, whitish-grey for BV). Next time you notice this, nicely mention it to her. In either case, she should get it treated.
I'm a 28 yr old woman and for the past 2 months, I've had a fishy vaginal smell during and right after intercourse. I've noticed that if I put my finger in my vagina and wipe it dry the smell left behind is a fishy smell, but other than that it is only noticable during or after intercourse. I'm in a monogamous relationship with the same man for the past 7 years and have never had anything like this happen.
BUT lately I've had a discharge that has been smelly, kind of like a slighty fishy odor and is light, grayish in color.. It is also more liquidy than usual. Whats wrong down there?

I've been having some discharge with a really "fishy" smell for a while now. Its not clumpy at all, and it has no color... its kind of transparent. I've been tested for any type of STD and the results came back negative. Could it be a Yeast Infection?
green vaginal discharge is a sign of Trichomoniasis, which is an STD caused by bacteria. To my knowledge this is the only infection that causes green discharge. Bacterial vaginosis causes a fishy smelling white discharge, a yeast infection causes a thick clumpy white discharge. you need to see a doctor as soon as possible and get antibiotics.
If you have this mid cycle then it could be normal vaginal discharge resulting from the effects of estrogen. If you have itching/burning with white discharge, it may be a yeast infection. If you have a gray, watery discharge with fishy odor, it may be bacterial vaginosis. To find out what you have, I suggest seeing a gynecologist for examination. The will do a wet mount and see if there is any organism under the microscope and they can also test you for any STDs like gonorrhea and chlamydia.
So since I got married I have vaginal discharge EVERYDAY! and with a not so pleasant odor...When I went to my doctor she said its normal to have discharge because it is my bodies way of cleaning itself and since my discharge is white, she said it was fine. I think it has to be like yellowish in order for it to be an infection. But I am really bothered by this and especially by the odor. Does anyone know what this could be about? Is it really normal?

Hello, Greenish vaginal discharge is mostly symptomatic of trichomoniasis. The characteristic symptom of trichomoniasis infection is a heavy, frothy, yellow-green, fishy-smelling discharge from the vagina. The infection can also cause discomfort during sex, vaginal itching, pain when passing urine and occasionally stomach pains. Diagnosis can be confirmed only after pelvic examination and swab samples of the discharge and cervix swabs.

Hello, Going by your symptoms, it looks like bacterial vaginosis to me. It is the most common cause of abnormal vaginal odor and discharge. It is caused by a change in the type of bacteria found in the vagina. In addition to unpleasant "fishy" vaginal odor, thin white or yellowish discharge from vagina may also be present. Other than that STD’s should be ruled out if you are sexually active.

A "fishy odor" is most often described as a complaint from women with vaginal discharge and an infection called Bacterial Vaginosis (BV). BV is very common and esaisly diagnosed and treated by your OBGYN. As to why you might occasionally smell such an odor on you partners penis, I would have to defer those questions to hm.
I have a vaginal odor. It is somewhat "fishy" but not overwhelming , but is there enough to be noticable. I do not have itching or burning. But there is a discharge that is very white and thick, ( this is not my fertile time) so I dont think thats what it is. Could this be a yeast infection?

Hello prettygirl81, * Normal Vaginal Discharge: May be clear or white, thin or thick. Hello, The symptoms are suggestive of bacterial vaginosis. In addition to unpleasant "fishy" vaginal odor, thin white or yellowish discharge from vagina may also be present. Diagnosis can be confirmed after pelvic examination and microscopic examination of the vaginal discharge. Treatment is by metronidazole and clindamycin. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
