Avatar m tn This can be indicative of a zinc deficiency. Might want to get a nutrient work-up.
Avatar n tn I am not sure about the tumor connection. White spots under the nails may be a zinc deficiency -- a multivitamin may help that.
Avatar f tn Elevated TSH with normal labs is called subclinical hypothyroidism. There may or may not be any hypothyroid symptoms with this lab result. Exercising, eating better and correcting any deficiency states might see the TSH come down. I'd say retest in say 6 months. I have read you may become sensitive to foods you eat it often but if you stop eating those foods for some time you might be able to tolerate them again.
Avatar n tn A zinc deficiency can cause white or light yellow spots on the fingernails.
Avatar f tn this has been seen in iron deficient patients on dialysis. White spotting in several nails, both hands may indicate a zinc deficiency. Changes also can occur from severe health problems that will show up months later as the nail grows out. If it is only one fingernail it is likely due to some activity or habit or injury like Trialanderror mentioned above. Stay Heathy, Eat well!
Avatar n tn It can be fungal infection. Another cause is zinc deficiency. Generally white spots or leukonychia punctata appear and disappear within 8 weeks and is due to slight injury to the base or matrix of the nail. This is harmless. So you can wait out that period. If the spots do not disappear consult a doctor to rule out fungal infection. You can take zinc supplements if fungal infection is ruled out. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Look it up on the internet. Do you have white spots on your fingernails (zinc deficiency)? Many people need a gluten free diet to start absorbing zinc again. Look into it and see what rings a bell for you. Good luck and hope this helps!
Avatar f tn So where to begin? OK.. I have been steadily losing my lunulas(fingernail moons) for a couple years. My left thumbnail lunula is almost gone. Only leaving my right thumb lunula left. The red bands at the tip of my fingernails are getting wider. They look similar to Terry's Nails but the nail beds are not white, they are pale. I've also been developing splinter hemmhorages at the tips in the red bands. I've heard red bands are due to low B12. My B12 is high.
Avatar f tn Did you bang your finger nail recently? Usually with a nutrient deficiency a number of nails would be distorted. At 12 years old, you need to eat 2200-2000 calories per day and have a variety of food that includes starches, meats, fruit and vegetables. The fresher the fruits and vegetables, the better nutritional value. If your mother is concerned, suggest going to your MD and getting your blood tested. It will indicate if any nutrient, vitamin or mineral is deficient or not.
Avatar m tn The major sign of zinc deficiency is affected taste. The zinc taste test is recommended. I have had this done for free at my local pharmacy showing i had zinc deficiency. You can also purchase zinc sulfate to try at home. I can't say for sure what all my zinc deficiency symptoms were as i has other severe deficiency states and medical conditions concurrently.
Avatar m tn Copper supplements are incredibly cheap, but you want to be sure you have the deficiency. Copper and Zinc are in balance, so be careful you don't deplete your zinc. Using bracelets won't work. Again, supplementation is very cheap with this one, and you only need a very small amount. Or you can research foods that are rich in copper and do it that way.
Avatar f tn This sounds like a possible nutritional deficiency. Do you have ridges that run across your fingernails? In any case, mention this to your dr at your next visit because our hair and nails are a direct reflection of our nutrition status.
Avatar m tn Examine your fingernails. There are many signs in the fingernails that can show internal deficiencies. If the tip of the nail is spooned, it may indicate low iron or B-12. Pitting brown spots may indicate vitamin C or folic acid depletion. Longitudinal striations are often recognized as a sign of general malabsorption. White spots or marks can indicate low zinc or calcium. Nails that are thin and splitting can suggest magnesium, copper or essential fatty acid deficiency.
Avatar n tn Now that I searched, it looks I can definitely confirm that B12 deficiency is related to purple fingernails. Google says it and says it a lot. Now I hope my doctors get to find why Vitamin B12 is deficient in my body. By the way, there's one question I'd like to ask you. If there is actually a malabsorption problem, getting IM B12 would bypass this malabsorption and the Vitamin would be absorbed in my body, wouldn't it?

Avatar f tn s entirety. I have taken zinc for year now with no real change. I am concerned about taking too much zinc since it was removed from some dental products. Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctors about zinc deficiency. Zinc is essential to a healthy immune system and a deficiency in it causes hair loss. Another thought would be thyroid deficiency. Just a couple of thoughts for you to run by your doctors. I don't know if they can test zinc, but there are several tests for thyroid that can be run. Make sure that you get all of them. Sometime the first more simple tests are inconclusive.
Avatar m tn There are several possible causes for the discoloration, but the most common are mild trauma, a fungal infection, skin conditions(like psoriasis), or nutritional deficiencies(zinc and calcium).Take some nutritional supplements containing zinc and calcium for some days and see if the symptoms improve. If they persist then pls get it examined from a dermatologist and get fungal infections ruled out.
