Avatar f tn They are the same color as nails, not very deep but definitely noticable. These ridges are especially noticable on the bed of my thumbs and also on the toenails of the big toes. Other fingernails/toenails don't seem to have ridges, maybe just a few small ridges on index finger nails.
Avatar n tn I have just been dealing with this same discussion in the last couple days, regarding toenail ridges and horizontal lines on toenails. I have found out about psoriatic nails, found in people with psoriasis, and ridges and peeling in your finger or toenails has to do with iron. High iron manifests in skin problems, and psoriasis is common in iron disorders. Google it with typing in peeling toenails or fingernails. Here is a link.
1110676 tn?1265812109 i got horizontal ridges on both toenails, as well as on my fingernails but barely noticeable. im not sure how long i have these but i discovered it late last year and it seem to be deteriorating. i cut my nails on a regular basis but it seem to not go away. what does this mean? pls help. tnx.
Avatar n tn They do not have complete horizontal ridges across them. Sort of like moguls on a ski slope. They are not discolored and it only occurs in those two fingernails. She has had this for close to a year. She's rarely sick and if it was nail fungus I would think it would have spread to her other nails.
Avatar f tn I have had horizontal ridges on my fingernails for probably 10 years now. I have also had soft stools consistently for years now, which I have read could be a sign of too much fat in your stool. I notice that some type of liquid/oil comes off of the stool too, and floats in the water. The stool also sticks to the side of the toilet after I flush it away. Could these be signs that something is wrong with my liver? I have read that the fingernail ridges could be due to malabsorption.
Avatar n tn 10, I had 2 months of preauricular swollen nodes that developed in the setting of severe bumps while I attempted to grow a beard. Lymphadenopathy has resolved. I also developed horizontal ridges in all 10 fingernails at the same time and that lasted 2 1/2 months, until the nails grew out. In the past 2 1/2 months, I have also developed brown arcs at the tip of my fingernails and toenails.
Avatar n tn Really? Did you have a biopsy? if so what stage fibrosis? I didn't get any discoloration only the horizontal ridges across my nails. Hope they go soonish!
Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Am I wrong and is something else going wrong This discussion is related to Fingernails indicative of thyroid problems?.
Panda What causes ridges in fingernails? Does the presence of ridges indicate a lack of something in the diet?
Avatar f tn Itchy raised ridges will appear over my body (arms and back mostly). They come and go randomly with seemingly no reason at all. My sister also suffers from these ridges and we don't know what they are. Any help?
Avatar n tn This sounds like a fungal infection. You have mentioned the occurrence of ridges on the nails. Ridges on the nails may suggest underlying disorders like a fungal infection, anemia and dehydration. In fungal infections however, the nails may become whitish ,yellowish and soft. They will eventually separate from the nail bed. Continue to observe the condition. Have you sought consult with the pediatrician? I suggest that you seek consult with his pediatrician for evaluation also.
Avatar n tn Hi there. My middle finger on my right hand has 3 horizontal ridges very close together. I was wondering if it is more likely to be from an injury because it is only on ONE finger? What else could this be? I dont remember any injury but i also have 3 children under 6 with one on the way and usually have random cuts, bruises and scrapes that i cant remember how i got them!
Avatar f tn I appear to have developed ridges on my fingernails, they run vertically. Is there a medical reason for these ridges or fine vertical lines on my nails?
Avatar m tn See, in late May I noticed small/single horizontal ridges (elevations) on all 10 fingernails. They are fading now and advancing upwards with nail growth. I have no acute symptoms now. I read that these horizontal ridges are concerning and represent past serious systemic illnesses. In my case the illness in March comes to mind. I also had a lot of personal stress in March and April. I am worried that what I experienced in March was acute HIV. Please help me with your answer.
Avatar f tn I hope I am in the right forum!? I have horizontal waves on my finger nails. They are not that deep but my nails aren't smooth. Does anyone know what the cause of that might be?? Most of my nails have them my thumbs have them the most? Thanks!! Peace Out!!
Avatar n tn finger nails suddenly growing horizontal dips and vertical ridges.
Avatar f tn what's up with deep vertical nail ridges? and what are they a sign of? is it parathyroidism too? I have low vit d3 levels and low thyroid. I am now being tested for parathyroid but only after insisting on it because this is the second time in the past year my vit d level dropped under 15. The bone pain in awful. This time around I have it in my right leg and thumbs, last time pain was across my upper back and thumbs as well as other bone locations on the body. Silly isn't it?
Avatar n tn swollen thyroid which I can feel when I swallow, headaches, cold feet, feeling worse upon waking than going to bed, excessive thirst that sometimes wakes me up at night or I have to drink a full glass of water in the am, burning back pain that is worse at night and upon waking, fatigue, hot flashes, night sweats, horizontal ridges in my fingernails, heart cramps-like it freezes in contraction for a half a second too long, dizziness, brain fog, muscle aches, burning in my feet, swollen hands upo
Avatar m tn HI, Fatigue is a common occurrence for me. It is related to neurological issues. But, you are having dry cough as well. Dry coughing and lungs can work together to cause fatigue. Breathing is interfered with when coughing and your lungs are working together to rid the lungs of whatever is ailing you.

Avatar f tn Not sure where this question fits in - I have an 8 year old whose fingernails and toenails don't grow. I think I've had to cut them maybe three times his whole life. Everything else grows normally - his hair, his body (he's tall for his age)...Not sure if this is something to worry about. Thanks for any input.
Avatar n tn For the past 9-10 months, I've been constantly feeling tired. It's not so much muscle fatigue as it is more like my brain is "foggy" and I sort of feel a bit sleepy all the time. I can't concentrate because of it. It's extremely frustrating and it affects everything I do. I've also had a dry cough for about 6 months now. It's usually just 1 or 2 short coughs at a time (though this happens a lot throughout the day).
