Fingernails purple

Common Questions and Answers about Fingernails purple

nail

I really run much more than what I was used. When I finished, my fingernails were purple. Since then, they have stayed that way. A week after that, I started having many other symptoms (headaches, wooziness, etc). I was told by my doctors that it was raynauds, but now I have found out that raynaud causes attacks and then fingernails come back to normal. Mine are purple all the time, but occasionally my right thumb and left index turn very blue, although they return to purple when I press them.
Hi, please tell me what can have caused my fingernails to get purple/bluish after one day of running much more than I was used, on July 14th. Since then, my fingernails stayed purple/bluish. I have gone through EKG, echo, xray, CT scan, blood work and spirometry test, all came back normal. What other tests can I take?
One and a half month ago, I overexercised (went running a lot more than I was used to) and when I finished, my fingernails were purple/blue. Since then, they have remained purple. A week after that I started developing many other symptoms which I'm quite sure have to do something with that. I went through several tests including EKG, echocardiogram, xray, spirometry, CT scan and blood work. All came back normal. My fingernails had never changed their colour before that incident.

Hi, occasionally my finger tips go a very dark purple along with my fingernails, with the middle finger going white as skin looks just after it has been under pressure. The fingers do not feel cold, but feel slightly numb, but when I put them to my face I feel that they are freezing cold. I've heard that this is bad circulation, but I'd like to know if I should be worried at all or if there's anything I can do. http://img377.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hand1mp5.jpg http://img294.imageshack.

Hi, if a person has purple fingernails all the time, can that person have a thyroid disorder?
The part that concerns me is that both of his thumb nailbeds are tinged purple/blue to about halfway up. I know that the cause of this is a drop in blood oxygen levels. But I've never seen this associated with common flu. We've both been exposed to people with colds, flu & 3 people with walking pneumonia just in the past week and a half. Oh, and he's been a smoker for the past 15 years. At one point up to 2 packs a day (@ 10 yrs ago), he's been down to @ .
The color in my fingernails seems to be slightly darker than normal and maybe a little purple tinged. When I extend my fingers, the color leaves the front half of them. I have no idea what this is and my doctor didn't seem to know either. It is possible that I have lyme disease as well so I was wondering if it could be related. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi, what are the reasons for a purplish discoloration in lips, fingernails, toenails, ears, tongue, face after crying and every other place where it was reddish before?
I've been hyper and warm-- All of a sudden, my fingernails are purple/blue--I mean almost white. My hands turned deep purple--even my legs. I only used to do this when really hypo?? I've been eating a ton of pizza--it is full of iodized salt--which I avoid because it usually makes me swell up like a balloon--I'm swelling now. Oh my goodness...I'm not sure what to do. Has anyone experience this before? My next endo appt is at the end of March. I can get my meds (hopefully) corrected then.
i had all the tests for this and they were normal. lately i have noticed that the my nails are bluish/purple, and i also feel like i am not getting enough air (like i feel like i am not taking deep enough breaths). i also feel some slight pressure in the middle of my chest. the pressure goes up to the spot where the neck meets the chest. also to note, i have had some moderate post-nasal drip for the past week. the back of my through is sore.
I feel exhausted after a few hour after getting up. My nails near the cuticles are very dark purple blue. I went to the emergency room and my BP was 123/60 , my heartrate was 100-110. They took an ekg and asked if I had ever had an ekg done before. Okay I am scared especially when you add to that with....when I was thirteen my mother started to where she couldn't breathe... she would walk ten feet and her whole fingers, lips and nose would go very blue.

elevated leisions showed up on fingertips, toe and finger joints, edge of fingernails. Some hot and painful. Different sizes. Comes and goes. Some discolouration -- usually reddish, but can turn purple in the cold. Leisons began appearing probably late Nov. and have come and gone since then. Some facial rash but not severe.
Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Red color nails could be due to heart disease, high blood pressure, possible brain hemorrhage, stroke, carbon monoxide poisoning or even due to chronic lung disease. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Do not delay investigations. Take care!
Hi there. It is common for fingernails to have purple creases during any type of chemotherapy, not only with Taxol. However, the entire toe, with the skin and all, turning purple may not be entirely explained by Taxol neuropathy. Neuropathy can affect the blood vessels in these areas that can give rise to that purple color.
My thumb fingernails have purple arcs on them right below the white half moon. My other fingers look normal. What could this be?
Purple fingernails all the time mean Raynaud's? Mine turned purple a month ago, just after overexercising and since then they remained purple, is this normal? Also, the coloration doesn't seem to change with temperature, does it still mean it is Raynaud's?
Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Yes, the discoloration can be due to poor blood supply. This can happen if there is a clot in the blood vessel or if the blood vessel is pinched some where. It can also be a discoloration due to nail polish you used. Fungal infection is also a possibility. I know you are only 13, but if you smoke or take any drugs, then this purple/black discoloration can be due to them. It is difficult to comment beyond this on net.
$ Maybe it sounds like an stupid conclusion, but I can notice that in every place where I should get a reddish color, I'm getting a light purple one instead. For example a rash, my fingernails, my face after crying, a scar, a scratch, whatever, now get light purple instead of red. I got EKG, echo and other tests, all came back normal. What are the causes of this colouration?
I forgot to mention that my short term memory is horrible, my glands are always swollen, I have lumps under my arms and my fingernails turn from purple to blue now and haven't been a normal color for about a year now.....thanks..
Hi, On July 14th I was running and overexercised. When I finished my fingernails were purple. Since then, they remained that way, although occasionally my right thumb and/or my left index would turn very blue. Is this raynauds?
It lasted for some hours, but my fingernails never returned to their original colour. They are somewhat purple now. Only my thumb in my right hand gets very blue sometimes. This had never happened to me before that day. I never had any kind of respiratory problems. I saw a gp, a cardiologist and and a pulmonologist and had some blood tests, ECG, echo, spirometry, and x-ray, the only result I got is a mild upper cervical disorder, the rest all ok.
or anything like that but I have heard that this does have to do often with heart disease the purple discoloration of fingernails....
