Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Am I wrong and is something else going wrong This discussion is related to Fingernails indicative of thyroid problems?.
745313 tn?1323142298 I knew about the thinning hair, which I am experiencing to a much, MUCH worse degree than I expected (but hey, it's summer!! ) But I have never read anything about tx affecting your fingernails. It only makes sense, as they are both made of the same thing - but has anyone else had this problem? Mine are awful! They are like paper, thin, peeling, and constantly ripping, even though they are cut completely short.
Avatar f tn Anyone have terrible fingernails with their VDD? I ask because for the past few years my nails have been very blah, the minute they start to grow they just split and peel. Now, I have noticed being on the VD for the past few weeks/months my nails finally seem to be growing slowly and not splitting or peeling, yet anyhow.
1067423 tn?1267740670 Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.
Avatar f tn It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn I developed horizontal lines or indentations in 2 fingernails. No injury. My Dr called them Beaus lines. He says I was either exposed to a toxin of some sort or they can be a result of a systemic disease. He seemed very unconcerned. In my reading betablockers pop up as a possible cause. My question is if the betablocker caused them does that mean it is harming me? I went to my pharmacy and he said only if your heartrates slow.
Avatar n tn I have an 8 yr old daughter who has two fingernails, one on each hand, that are not smooth, they are slightly bumby and the nail that grows out at the end is not uniform, curvy. They do not have complete horizontal ridges across them. Sort of like moguls on a ski slope. They are not discolored and it only occurs in those two fingernails. She has had this for close to a year. She's rarely sick and if it was nail fungus I would think it would have spread to her other nails.
Avatar m tn Presumably, you have Googled this and found nothing, meaning there is no reason to suspect that HIV affects the fingernails. However, if HIV DID affect fingernails, it would not affect YOUR fingernails, because you never had a risk for HIV.
1110676 tn?1265812109 i got horizontal ridges on both toenails, as well as on my fingernails but barely noticeable. im not sure how long i have these but i discovered it late last year and it seem to be deteriorating. i cut my nails on a regular basis but it seem to not go away. what does this mean? pls help. tnx.
560684 tn?1306712545 like moderate pitting of the finger nails (this has been going on for the past 3 months), weaking of fingernails along with peeling of nails and itching of the pubic area - past 2 weeks(without any signs of pubic lice - but when i scratch the 'root' of the hairs have these small while things - almost like some sort of internal moist dandruff...the skin is fine though).
Avatar n tn One and a half month ago, I overexercised (went running a lot more than I was used to) and when I finished, my fingernails were purple/blue. Since then, they have remained purple. A week after that I started developing many other symptoms which I'm quite sure have to do something with that. I went through several tests including EKG, echocardiogram, xray, spirometry, CT scan and blood work. All came back normal. My fingernails had never changed their colour before that incident.
Avatar n tn is there any numbness or tingling, is there any color change in the beds of your fingernails, do you have any other medical issues, what, if any, meds are you on......... If you could fill us in on some of these questions, we'd have a better chance of offering up an opinion.
Avatar m tn If HIV fluid got under your fingernails from hand-genital contact, does the virus die immediately while underneath the fingernails? My understanding is that the virus is damaged/non infectious immediately when fluids are transferred onto the hands no matter if its under the fingernails or any other part of the hand. I think I already know the answer but I would appreciate a response. Thanks!
518798 tn?1295212279 s fat, nasty feet. How can any medical profession consider making their employees dress in medical scrubs, etc and then let them wear flipflops.
Avatar n tn Hi, please tell me what can have caused my fingernails to get purple/bluish after one day of running much more than I was used, on July 14th. Since then, my fingernails stayed purple/bluish. I have gone through EKG, echo, xray, CT scan, blood work and spirometry test, all came back normal. What other tests can I take?
Avatar f tn I appear to have developed ridges on my fingernails, they run vertically. Is there a medical reason for these ridges or fine vertical lines on my nails?
Avatar n tn Four days ago a friend of mine -- who has a problem with my sexual acts -- told me I should stop because I can get HIV if semen gets underneath my fingernails. He told me that underneath the fingernail is mucous membranes that will get infected. I cant find any information about this but it cant be true can it?!?? Short hand -- IF I get semen underneath my fingernails am i at risk for HIV?????
Avatar f tn As long as you did not have a wound of significant nature - such that it would require medical attention, you had no risk. Cuts under your fingernails are in no way close to that. Please visit the HepB forum for advice on HepB.
347645 tn?1283220742 The natural history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is that it gets progressively worse and the worsening is accelerated by cigarette smoke. Your symptoms could be an indication that your COPD is worsening or that you are having an exacerbation, a temporary, acute worsening of symptoms, often reversible with medical treatment. The blue fingernails suggestion that your body is not getting enough oxygen and that could make it much harder to breathe.
1356637 tn?1277263982 My 4 year old son's fingernails and toenails seem to be splitting away by the cuticle and coming off. It started on one of his big toes and now it is happening on both hands/feet. There is no discoloration on any nail and no sign of fungus or infection. I took him to the pediatrician and he said he was stumped. He referred me to a dermatologist but I can't get in for a while. I looked online and anything I could find that seemed to match what my son is going through sounds pretty bad.
Avatar m tn I recently visited an escort and she was inserting a rubber dildo into her vagina. After she was done with it I stupidly grabbed the toy with my hand and as hard as i could I pressed my fingernails into the toy shaft. I don't know why I did that but I am paranoid that my fingertips or underneath my fingernails I contracted hsv or hpv.
Avatar m tn Hello, These red bumps can be due to contact dermatitis, pompholyx( if itchy) or herpetic whitlow. Herpetic whitlow is a painful viral infection occurring on the fingers or around the fingernails and is caused by infection with the herpes simplex virus (HSV). My sincere advice would be to get it evaluated from a dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn misshaped fingernails turning yellow kind of warbly and flat in spots and are not growing and splitting
