fingernails lunula

ve had this white band that appears only on my index and middle fingers for a few months now (see pic). Also, the lunula on all my fingernails is becoming misshaped and smaller and smaller and it's completely gone on a few fingernails. Should I see a doctor?

I have checked the photograph and from the symptoms and photograph, the possibility of terry nail is less likely because the lanula of the nails is visible. In terry nails, the fingernails appear white with a characteristic "ground glass" appearance, with no lunula (the crescent-shaped whitish area of the bed of a fingernail). It is thought to be due to a decrease in vascularity. Hence there appears a red or brown distal transverse band on the tip of fingernail.

My dog bit my thumbnail, his teeth went down directly into the lunula part of the nail That area has swollen to 2 to 3 times its size, the rest of the nail won't grow and there is a big black color that starts at the lunula to the tip of the nail. I have recently been to my doctor who did a physical exam as well as a EKG and blood work and tested for my o2 sats.

The lunula(white cressend shape on the fingernails) dissapeared and nails turned to grey.I read that only HIV was found to be responsible for lunula recession.Worst of all I suffer lipodystrophy and I read on a forum that not only hıv drugs but hiv itself can cause body shape changes.I read the complaints of poz people who are not taking treatment.What do you think? What can I do? Are there any tests I sould get? Please help!

I have slight reddish color above my lunula on most of may nails, however the red/dark pink color is most prominent on my thumb nails. Pictured is my thumb, is this normal? I believe it's been like this for quite some time, but I just really noticed it and I'm questioning if it's healthy.

Has anybody experienced red lunula on their nails? I read this can mean heart disease. I am also experiencing lightheadedness. My primary doctor dismissed it as nothing but I don’t trust him. I am seeing a cardiologist soon but wondered in the meantime if anyone else had this and what it turned out to be.

I have been steadily losing my lunulas(fingernail moons) for a couple years. My left thumbnail lunula is almost gone. Only leaving my right thumb lunula left. The red bands at the tip of my fingernails are getting wider. They look similar to Terry's Nails but the nail beds are not white, they are pale. I've also been developing splinter hemmhorages at the tips in the red bands. I've heard red bands are due to low B12. My B12 is high.

Nail loss. Loss or reduction of the white crescent-shaped area (lunula) at the base of fingernails. Hair: Hair loss on the head as well as on the body. Blood Tests: This "HIV-like" pathogen can cause a decrease of white blood cells. Around 40% of the infected patients have low CD4 cells, as low as 200 CD4 cells per mm3 of blood, and raised CD8 counts. Though 60% of infected patients have normal CD4 levels. CD3 cells in some patients are slightly lower than the reference value.

This white started at the cuticle and is real soft. I could poke a hole in it if I wanted. It started on my toes and now is starting on my thumb. It gets to where the whole nail is covered. Anyway we'll see what the Dermatologist says tomorrow. Thanks for your input and help.

I noticed a few days ago that the lunula on both of my thumbs is turning red. I have checked the internet and it says that it could be related to heart disease. Could it mean anything else, or perhaps, nothing at all?

The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I knew about the thinning hair, which I am experiencing to a much, MUCH worse degree than I expected (but hey, it's summer!! ) But I have never read anything about tx affecting your fingernails. It only makes sense, as they are both made of the same thing - but has anyone else had this problem? Mine are awful! They are like paper, thin, peeling, and constantly ripping, even though they are cut completely short.

Anyone have terrible fingernails with their VDD? I ask because for the past few years my nails have been very blah, the minute they start to grow they just split and peel. Now, I have noticed being on the VD for the past few weeks/months my nails finally seem to be growing slowly and not splitting or peeling, yet anyhow.

Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.

If HIV fluid got under your fingernails from hand-genital contact, does the virus die immediately while underneath the fingernails? My understanding is that the virus is damaged/non infectious immediately when fluids are transferred onto the hands no matter if its under the fingernails or any other part of the hand.
