Avatar f tn If you take prenatal vitamins they are rich in folic acid and B vitamins which are great for your baby and have a side effect of increasing your hair growth rate as well as its thickness. Also they will increase the growth rate of your fingernails and skin cells. Many women who are not pregnant take prenatal vitamins to help with thinning hair, weak fingernails, or skin problems.
Avatar m tn Around three years ago, I mashed my left thumb at work. This caused the fingernail to bruise and eventually come off. However, it has never grown back right. It has yellowing underneath the nail, like a fungus which the dermatologist tested for and was negative, and whiteness on top where the nail looks dead, and you can see the new nail underneath. The doctor didn't think I had damaged the nail bed because it was growing out straight, but is funny looking.
1110676 tn?1265812109 Hello, A horizontal ridge across the nail usually means some form or disruption of the nail growth area. It can also be due to Beau's lines that appear when growth at the area under your cuticle is interrupted. Third possibility is of psoriasis. The inflammatory skin condition, it shows up as red, scaly patches on the skin and can also affect the skin cells in the nails.
Avatar m tn Hello, Glomus tumor which is found rarely is a benign growth that occurs under the fingernails usually and tympanic membrane. They are painful and may be solitary or multiple. Diagnosed by external examination and biopsy of the skin showing atypical cells. Treatment includes surgical excision and radiotherapy. Hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Warm regards.
Avatar n tn If the bump is painful then herpetic whitlow is to be ruled out. Myxoid cyst is a growth usually occurring on the finger. These cysts are believed to form from deteriorated tissues. Herpetic whitlow is a painful viral infection occurring on the fingers or around the fingernails and is caused by infection with the herpes simplex virus (HSV). I sincerely advise you to consult a dermatologist and discuss these possibilities with him.
Avatar f tn s the sort that is commonly seen on big toes causing thickened yellowed growth, it can of course affect the fingernails too and is generally caused by injury to the proximal and lateral nail folds or the eponychium. Some types of onychomycosis affects the whole nail plate.
1356637 tn?1277263982 My 4 year old son's fingernails and toenails seem to be splitting away by the cuticle and coming off. It started on one of his big toes and now it is happening on both hands/feet. There is no discoloration on any nail and no sign of fungus or infection. I took him to the pediatrician and he said he was stumped. He referred me to a dermatologist but I can't get in for a while. I looked online and anything I could find that seemed to match what my son is going through sounds pretty bad.
Avatar m tn If the bumps are itchy then the possibility of dyshidrotic eczema is there and if it is painful then herpetic whitlow is to be ruled out. Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Am I wrong and is something else going wrong This discussion is related to Fingernails indicative of thyroid problems?.
745313 tn?1323142298 I knew about the thinning hair, which I am experiencing to a much, MUCH worse degree than I expected (but hey, it's summer!! ) But I have never read anything about tx affecting your fingernails. It only makes sense, as they are both made of the same thing - but has anyone else had this problem? Mine are awful! They are like paper, thin, peeling, and constantly ripping, even though they are cut completely short.
Avatar f tn Anyone have terrible fingernails with their VDD? I ask because for the past few years my nails have been very blah, the minute they start to grow they just split and peel. Now, I have noticed being on the VD for the past few weeks/months my nails finally seem to be growing slowly and not splitting or peeling, yet anyhow.
1067423 tn?1267740670 Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.
Avatar n tn My fingernails are coming away from the skin just slightly down from the whites and I wonder if I've over-manicured or could it be a fungal growth? I now have to scrub my nails at least once a day as there is always a line of dirt regardless of how I've used my hands. I've tried soaking them in warm soapy water but this has absolutely no effect, the line of dirt appearing to be steadfast. If I leave them the dirt just mounts up, which not only looks disgusting but feels it also.

Avatar m tn If HIV fluid got under your fingernails from hand-genital contact, does the virus die immediately while underneath the fingernails? My understanding is that the virus is damaged/non infectious immediately when fluids are transferred onto the hands no matter if its under the fingernails or any other part of the hand. I think I already know the answer but I would appreciate a response. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I have suffered from a fungus attack on my fingernails for 5 months. It began with a rash in the palm of my hands. Within weeks, my fingernails showed spots at the base of the nails, and then rapidly became destroyed. I took Lamisel for 6 weeks, beginning in Nov/Dec. I've also been prescribed various topical anti-fungal creams (Clotrimazole and Betamethanose; and Ketoconazole), as well as an anti-fungal nail polish (Ciclopriox), and also a nail film (Umecta).
Avatar n tn Hi, please tell me what can have caused my fingernails to get purple/bluish after one day of running much more than I was used, on July 14th. Since then, my fingernails stayed purple/bluish. I have gone through EKG, echo, xray, CT scan, blood work and spirometry test, all came back normal. What other tests can I take?
Avatar n tn Four days ago a friend of mine -- who has a problem with my sexual acts -- told me I should stop because I can get HIV if semen gets underneath my fingernails. Avatar m tn Hi, basically I am 16 going on 17 very soon, my voice broke at 12, I have pubic hair, my balls have dropped, I have underarm hair, and everything has happened in puberty except one thing. My Biology teacher said the penis generally starts growth a few months after your balls have 'got larger' which means dropped and pubic hair has developed. That stuff happened 4 1/2 years ago for me, I am 6 foot 4 and have pretty much stopped growing now.

Avatar m tn I recently visited an escort and she was inserting a rubber dildo into her vagina. After she was done with it I stupidly grabbed the toy with my hand and as hard as i could I pressed my fingernails into the toy shaft. I don't know why I did that but I am paranoid that my fingertips or underneath my fingernails I contracted hsv or hpv.
