I have been on Synthroid and Thyroid (Armour) for hypothyroidism for two years. I have very weak, thin, finger nails that break or split horizontally and/or vertically, moons only on my thumb and 1st fingers, multiple thin ridges going up and down on my nail beds & a few fingernails that are flat or bend under. I also have mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation - grade 3. Are my fingernails indicative of either my thyroid or heart problem?
RIGHT NOW the POINTER NAIL IS ALMOST AT ITS FLESH WITH A THIN LAYER AND REALLY flat AND ROUGH; the THUMB WELL the OLD NAIL IS HALF WAY AND I COULD LIFT the end FROM WHERE IT STARTS GROWING AND RIGHT BEHIND IT IS A BIG BUMP(the NEW NAIL) KIND OF LIKE PUSHING the OLD onE OUT. COULD IT BE WHEN I WAS on PREDNISonE? IS THIS A SIDE EFFECT? DOCTOR TOLD ME IT COULD BE BUT SHE WASN'T SURE. OH AND IS NOT A FUNGI OR INFECTIon. ANSWERS PLEASE!!
During one episode where I appeared to be sorta hypothyroid and was treated with Synthroid, I noticed that my usually flat-as-pancake fingernails became curved and normal looking. For the first time in my life, I saw moons at the base of my fingernails. My toenails also normalized. This was after about 6 months of treatment. Also, my body temperature elevated to the 97's. Subsequent thyroid tests indicated that my thyroid was now suppressed, so treatment was discontinued.
Recently, I have been getting sharp pains in the left side of my back, just below the shoulder blade, when breathing deeply or lying flat on my back. It began about 2 months ago. At that time, the pain was at its worse and lasted about 4 days straight. Since then, it comes and goes. I have also had significant changes in my fingernails. Every fingernail, except the two pinky's developed horizontal indentations and all have dents and slight vertical ridges. My toenails have not changed.
Is this the right place for a question about fingernails? they are changing, getting striations and flattening out across the tops. Any ideas why? Or where I could look for further info? Thanks!
on my left index finger, I have a wart-type lesion. It is a round ring with a flat center. Eventually it builds up and the center fills in and it starts hurting. I have filed it back to relieve the pressure, but within a day, it starts building back up. Should this be surgically removed?
the ring fingernails are flat and the middle fingernails are flat to start with and then turn under in a wavy motion. the index fingernails have begun to get a small wave to the end and begin to turn under in the last few weeks. I have Hypothyroidism that is being treated and according to my last blood work 8/25/08 is triiodothyronine, free serum 2.8 pg/ml (32.0 - 100.0) FT4 - AL 0.74ng/dl (0.70-1.55 ng/dl) and TSH-AK 0.53 uIU/ml (0.25-5.01 uIU/ml).
a few fingernails that are flat or bend under. Are these heartbeats normal for MVP and are my finger nails indicative of either my heart problem or my thyoid?
I stopped because I noticed that I was tearing the skin on the underside of the shaft just below the head. After the scabs healed I was left with two small white scars. one is smaller and flat, the other is a little larger and raised. the larger one is like a small bump. Overtime the skin on the larger one grows and hardens. I normally remove the skin with my fingernails, but a few weeks later it grows back. they are small but noticeable.
How long have u had it would be a question. Check your fingernails. Slant them towards the light so u can see them almost flat. If their are tiny pits in them, chances are you have psoriasis. For skin Rashes, I take plenty of "real" (Not Synthetic) Vitamin C. Since i found out about the Vit C and used it (About a month now) the Psoriasis has began to fade. No Doctor here - Just Experience living with it.
I didn't use my fingernails or anything abrasive just area squeezing with pressure. About a day later I noticed that this bump now looked more like a canker sore and was flat. I recently went to my gyno and told her about it and she asked if I had a history of herpes and I told her no. She felt that it was a pimple or just really irritated however I am still concerned. It feels exactly like a canker sore but on the opposite end. I have never done anything sexual near my anus.
My cuticles are ok thanks to jojoba oil but my fingernails chip and flat out break like crazy. the are moderate in length, kind of curl under a little and the color is good but they are brittle and dry. I don't use nail polish and I buff them once in awhile for a light sheen, but that's it. What to do? I have redhead skin and not the best looking hands to begin with. I'd like to not have them all super short to nonexistent but I don't see how to avoid this.

Ringworm can affect all parts of the body including the scalp, fingernails, feet and groin. Because fungi like moisture, ringworm is most common in the summertime when children are more likely to perspire, wear wet clothes and walk barefoot around swimming pools and locker rooms. Incubation is one week to several months. Ringworm begins as a flat lesion on the skin. the outer rim may be slightly raised and composed of little bumps It can be mistaken for eczema or psoriasis.
I wasn't sure what they were. they appeared brown, small, slightly raised and flat,, like a piece of dirty splattered on. I was able to remove both of them using my fingernails fairly easily and with little to no pain. they bled profusely for a good while (relative to their size). Within weeks they grew back looking very characteristically like warts (raised, bumpy, skin colored).
She used her fingers to lift and unroll the condom down so maybe there was a nick in it with her fingernails? then she put it back in her mouth for about 30 seconds. then I had vaginal sex that lasted only a minute or two. When I withdrew the condom was intact, I held it and it had all the *** contained within it. I couldn't see any holes or rips. Could there have been something about her putting the condom in her mouth or unrolling with fingernails that could have comprimised the condom?
Grace when you said 'you can have HPV under your fingernails and transmit it to genitals" did you mean a genital HPV type under your fingernails? I.e. someone who had genital warts, touched or scratched them, and then manually stimulated a partner's genitals? Or any sort of HPV? It's hard to find solid information online about the possibility of passing HAND or finger warts (flat warts in my case) to a partner's genitals...
* Wash your entire body and the fingernails with a nail brush each day for 1 to 3 weeks with one of the following cleansing materials: Betadine, Hibiclens, or pHisoHex soap. You can decrease the frequency of washing if the skin becomes dry. -Dr.

Hi. I just turned 22. About five years ago I had unprotected sex (under the influence of meth, thank god I've been clean for three years) with a female that said she had HIV (I can't quite remember at the time, but she said something about a rare condition). About a week after so, I went to get tested-I was negative, but obviously still at risk.
To prevent this, encourage your child not to touch or pick at the sores. Keep his fingernails cut short, and wash his hands often with one of the antibacterial soaps. Cover the sores with a Band-Aid if they are not on the face. Impetigo is quite contagious. Be certain that other people in the family do not use your child's towel or washcloth. It can also be spread by toys and athletic equipment your child handles.
And my hair is the same length, kid you not my hair is falling every single day and my nails are splitting into two, they bend easily fingernails feel very sensitive. Dr said to continue taking the regimen as Rx. Im wondering if anyone is experiencing something similar.

the important thing is to closely observe the infants fingernails and lips. If they are not turning pale or bluish, you are not having a serious problem. there are devices called pulse oximeters, and there are infant models, ised in pediatric wards. Purchase a pediatric model. As long at the P02 does not drop significantly during these episodes, you don't have much to worry about. You should get a permanent bound notebook and document these problems., as to time, date and duration.
I see no reason for concern and think it is extremely unlikely you have any worries about genital infection, or about infection under your fingernails. (I suppose if research testing were done under the fingernails of people with warts of the hands, the virus would often be detected. But that's just the way HPV is; it can be much more widespread than visible warts themselves.
A day later the bump is gone and it's absolutely flat. Occassionally, when my fingernails are long enough, I pinch off the skin containing the spot when it's a bump. It bleeds like crazy but when the scab fails off, there's no pigmentation there. I get these all over, the two largest ones are on the soles of my feet. It doesn't seem sun related. Doctors have noticed them for years but just told me to keep track of them. they don't grow.
It looked like a pimple with no white head… pearly, round, and very small. I tried to pop it with my fingernails. No puss and no white stuff came out but I was successful in breaking the skin. I should mention that I popped another super small pearly pimple right under the semi bigger spot. So now I had two tiny “cuts” (I don’t know what else to call it) on the topside of my penis near the base of the shaft… near the pubic region.
You may begin to feel tired and listless, perhaps chilly when those about you are comfortably warm. As your skin, hair, and fingernails grow more slowly, they become thickened, dry, and brittle. Some hair loss may be noticed. then, as your hypothyroidism becomes more severe, changes may occur in the tissues beneath your skin that lead to a characteristic puffy, swollen appearance known as myxedema. This is often particularly apparent around your face and eyes.
