Common Questions and Answers about Fingernails falling off in children

nail

Avatar f tn It is one of the harsher side effects of Taxotere, and thankfully, I got off it before my nails fell off completely. It was suggested to me to soak my fingernails in cold water both during the treatment, and as much as I could stand at home, as well. I imagine it is the same concept as putting cold packs on your hands during Doxil treatments. The cold helps slow circulation to the extremeties, therefore slowing the chemo into those areas. I have been off it since the beginning of January.
Avatar m tn On and off for the last three years my fingernails have been turning completly white, only to retain its pinkish color and return white again. During these times when my fingernails turn white I feel like I'm going to get the flu, but never quite do and lasts for a couple of weeks accompanied by fatigue. For the last 6 months I have had loose stools just about everyday. Doctors ran blood test and didn't find anything.
Avatar f tn I have these white lines on my fingernails that run parallel to the cuticle. They have areas in the white line that are heavier and make the line look like a spot. They cover the nail in it's entirety. I have taken zinc for year now with no real change. I am concerned about taking too much zinc since it was removed from some dental products. My hypoyroidism is controlled with medication. I do not suffer trauma to my hands. I am 55 yes old and have had these for as long as I can remember.
Avatar f tn 100mcg levothyrosine and 25mcg Cytomel. No changes in meds for 3 years...but falling TSH (big time) and falling T4 (which I never thought happened together). Lesions, they think are caused by my long (and tedious) migraine history. But as I get more information, such as these changes in labs, I wonder if the Thalamus one and possibly the cerebral peduncle one isn't causing some of my symptoms.
745313 tn?1323142298 Many have other things going on that can and does affect their nails. But in the cases in point Treatment can be and in my case is the culprit. People who drink knox gelatin or take speciak vitamins for nails are wasting their money. Just like I waste my money everytime I buy a miracle cream for a better complexion. I just read the article and it does not mention the thin brittle nails so it is not relevant in this case.
Avatar f tn I developed horizontal lines or indentations in 2 fingernails. No injury. My Dr called them Beaus lines. He says I was either exposed to a toxin of some sort or they can be a result of a systemic disease. He seemed very unconcerned. In my reading betablockers pop up as a possible cause. My question is if the betablocker caused them does that mean it is harming me? I went to my pharmacy and he said only if your heartrates slow.
1467200 tn?1311259436 Normal TSH 1.28 but low T4 0.56. Have hair falling out, fatigue, depression, insomnia, fluid retention, numerous headaches, brittle fingernails, and fibromylagia. Am on Lyrica and Cymbalta. do you think that this could be hypothyroidism?
649848 tn?1534633700 Good morning... how is everyone this morning? I hope everyone remembered to turn their clocks back an hour this morning (wherever Daylight Saving Time is practiced). It's a bright sunny day, here, after a couple of days of dark, dreary rain, but it's definitely chillied off and beginning to feel like winter. Of course, it's not as cold here as some other areas, but we're not used to being this cold so early.
Avatar n tn he has lost some fingernails, and appears that he will lose some toenails too. He seems to be in no pain, nailbed is not red when nail comes off. looks healthy/pink. My son is also a twin and his sister is starting to show some ridges on her nailbeds that looked just like his when all this started.....any thoughts? Avatar m tn She has been diagnosed with eosiniphilc esophagitis, GERD, Asthma, excema, a carnitine defiecency and an undiagnosed underlying condition. She has had a million tests in her 4.5 years, either normal or a few things off her and there.... Doctors are stumped we are currently waiting for a rhumetology appointment in two weeks. I will list random abnormal test info from the last 4 years that I can think of off the top of my head as well.
Avatar f tn I am getting zaps at the base of several nails now, but still worse in the right middle finger - it has felt "smashed" ( the hammer kind . . . not the "hammered" kind) on several occasions. This will last a few days and just go away. At the same time the nails have been electrified, I have also been have zaps in my teeth. They end up with the "cold sensitive" type of sensation. Any ideas???
Avatar n tn Hello, You seem to be having onychomadesis which is separation and falling off of a nail from the nail bed. Common causes are trauma to the nail, localized infection, nail fungi, allergy to nail enhancement products or some systemic illnesses. My sincere advice is to consult a dermatologist and get a histopathological examination, culture and biopsy of the skin around the nails and the nails done. Hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Ever since I can remember, on my thumbnail and big-toe nail, there has been a strange deterioration. It looks like a series of grooves in the center of the nail (see attached pictures). My fingernails aren't weak or brittle and they're not really falling off or anything. I don't think it's anything serious, but I've always been curious what it is. If anybody could help at all, that would be great.
1674823 tn?1307263620 I have been noted to have domed fingernails but not apparently 'clubbed' They have been like this as long as I can remember What might cause domed nails but not clubbed. ???
1067423 tn?1267740670 Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.
Avatar f tn thanks for the info. i will let my doctor know about this. i haven't felt good since thanksgiving last year. i have had a respitory/sinus infection that just won't go away with a rotten smell in my nose. and my energy level has been at zero for so long now i forgot what it's like to have any! thanks again for the post.
Avatar f tn Anyone have terrible fingernails with their VDD? I ask because for the past few years my nails have been very blah, the minute they start to grow they just split and peel. Now, I have noticed being on the VD for the past few weeks/months my nails finally seem to be growing slowly and not splitting or peeling, yet anyhow.
Avatar f tn My fingernail has a dent in it! How did it come down and how do I get rid of the nail dent?
Avatar m tn This caused the fingernail to bruise and eventually come off. However, it has never grown back right. It has yellowing underneath the nail, like a fungus which the dermatologist tested for and was negative, and whiteness on top where the nail looks dead, and you can see the new nail underneath. The doctor didn't think I had damaged the nail bed because it was growing out straight, but is funny looking. He prescribed a urea nail stick to aid with the fungus like matter under the fingernail.
Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Am I wrong and is something else going wrong This discussion is related to Fingernails indicative of thyroid problems?.
Avatar f tn Its rare but possible for a child to have bipolar disorder. If he is diagnosed with Asperger's that is a developmental disability and although those can have behavioral problems that can be severe they don't generally respond to medication like psychiatric disabilities such as bipolar or ADHD but both diagnoses can occur together. They need to provide specific diagnoses as for follow up and treatment and you should discuss this further with them.
