Avatar n tn Though closing your eyes during UV exposure does block out some visible light, the human eyelid fi lters less than 25 percent of damaging UV rays. The very thin skin and underlying membrane of the eyelid do not keep UV rays from penetrating the eye, potentially burning the cornea and doing more severe damage to the lens and retina. In addition to night vision loss, excessive unprotected UV light exposure will also damage color vision and can even result in cancer of the eyelids.
Avatar m tn Neither work, one is called a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and the other is UV light therapy. These devices have not been approved by the fda to treat HepC. I think the Hyperbaric oxygen chamber has been approved for asthma and the other device ultraviolet has been approved for dermatologic uses only. If you ever have any doubt you can go to the fda website at www.fda.gov and run a search.
Avatar m tn By intense and prolonged exposure to UV light, I mean 3yrs continuous at sea where sunlight is direct and reflected. Clearly cornea/lens does not filter adequately.
Avatar m tn To what extent can prolonged and intense exposure to UV light affect Retinitis Pigmentosa?
Avatar f tn I have very fair skin so I know it's important to limit my UV exposure. The problem is that my skin is very sensitive, and I've had an adverse reaction to every sunscreen/sunblock I've tried (including pure zinc-based ones). So I limit my sun exposure, and wear a big wide brim sun hat and long sleeves and pants when I'm out in the sun. I have a portable UV checker which detects the intensity of UVA/UVB rays. So that helps me know whether I'm getting much or any UV light.
Avatar n tn However, vendors selling the boxes claim that purchasing a light box that does not produce UV rays poses no risks. Other than the UV rays, is there any other risk of eye damage that comes from light therapy?
Avatar f tn And I was curious to seem if it was bad for the new baby. And I read that the lights can emit uv light which might cause a slight burn of the eyes. But isnt that the same risk as normal with adult eyes? So is it worth to take them down from the wall? I mean will it really harm the baby?
Avatar n tn No the light exposure while having an FA is uncomfortable but not damaging.
Avatar n tn i take it you were looking at the light while wearing some sort of protection (ie googles) if not you will have subjected your eyes to large quantities on uv light - more than in is normal sunlight - high levels of uv or high unexpected sun exposure can be linked to cataracts! please tell me you were protected as your post does not make that clear!!
Avatar f tn Having cataract surgery (but not vitreous surgery) removes the natural crystalline lens which has some uv light filtering ability. Intraocular lens implants (IOL) usally have uv light protection and the acrysof line of implants also filter some of the visible blue light.
Avatar f tn My question relates to something rather trivial though - as UV lights are used in entertainment to emphasise teh bright colours etc - its known as black light. To me however I can now see it! I see the light reflecting of virtually everything - not just the brightcolours. Black light now creates an annoying purple glare. If I can see this end of the light spectrum - are the lenses not doing their job in terms of protecting the retina from other dangerous wavelengths?
1360668 tn?1277577544 andyour other turtle WILL go the same way if you Dont get a UV light heater and Filter in that tank and put Blue aquasafe in the water after cleaning the tank and you need alot... also you tell the sex by the length of the tail if its short its a girl, Long its a boy. or the other way round. Avatar m tn I have already asked question about, but maybe for some different reasons didn't get answer. In previous post I've asked about 'everything healing' uv light therapie. I have already checked lot more info about such kind of innovative therapy, and actually have even found representatives or distributors, however, as I said before, there is no evidences about its effectiveness, nothing about risks. Maybe someone have heard something about this station?
Avatar m tn iRestore is a low-level light therapy (LLLT) that uses red light therapy which does not utilize harmful ultraviolet (UV) light which can damage skin and cause cells to mutate. Laser devices have a completely different wave length than UVA, so there is no relationship.
Avatar m tn Are there other light sources besides UV rays that can causes burns? Maybe staring at a lamp for long periods.
9364788 tn?1403324283 Diagnosis can be confirmed by phototesting in which small areas of your skin are exposed to measured amounts of UVA and UVB light to try to reproduce the problem. If your skin reacts to the UV radiation, you're considered sensitive to sunlight (photosensitive) and may be having PLE. Your dermatologist may also do a skin biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Your risk from this exposure is zero. There are many reasons that `i say this with confidence. For starters, `I doubt that there was any contamination of the equipment. Second, if it was contaminated it is unlikely that the person who contaminated it had HIV (less than 1 in 1000 American women have HIV. Third, UV light does kill HIV and the virus is very susceptible to both heat and drying.
Avatar n tn To make vitamin D you need UV-B rays to come into direct contact with your skin. Of note: UV-B rays cannot penetrate glass. Pollution and clouds decrease the number of UV-B rays. * Latitude - UV-B rays only penetrate the atmosphere when the sun is at certain angles. In places with a latitude above 37 degrees, UV-B rays usually do not reach the earth's surface during the winter months.

5805973 tn?1374601879 The VA is doing their tests and the health dept even has samples, but they are backlogged for weeks. No sign of bedbugs anywhere, even bought one of those UV black light flashlights - which was so much more revealing than I ever really cared to know! If you have any insight, thoughts or even guesses, please let me know so I can relay it to my doctors and hopefully get a new med that works...and also start to not look like I have leprosy.
Avatar m tn UV light is a contributing factor for AMD. However, I doubt the arc welding accelerated your AMD. The cornea would have become painful from the uv (snow blindness). Dr. O.
Avatar n tn One last thought - these lenses usually wont darken much inside your car because the windshield filters out most of the uv light. I, myself am not a big fan of transition lenses but many people like them - but still have some of your complaints.
