Avatar m tn Hello, Laser treatment is thought to treat a fungal nail infection that's particularly stubborn. The laser emits high doses of light energy, which are used to destroy the fungus. However, there's currently little evidence to show that laser treatment provides a long-term cure, as most studies only follow patients up for a period of three months.
Avatar f tn Cut off the loose nail portion close to the skin without cutting into the skin. A pair of fingernail nippers or fingernail scissors work best. Then brush on pure tea tree oil a couple of times a day.
Avatar n tn ewww... i noticed they can do laser treatment that kills the fungus and depending on how bad it is you might need to go twice...also the home remedy of white vinegar 50% vinegar and 50% water...soak 3 times a day has helped people.. also drinking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water helps fight it from the inside out... so i have heard... it doesn't hurt to give it a try but you have to be consistant and it takes a couple of weeks to notice it so don't get discuraged...
Avatar f tn my dermatologist just put me on a 7 day steroid pill for mine! I am hoping that it helps although I'm told that after the fungus goes away it can take awhile for the skin color to fill back in!
Avatar m tn What do the lines look like and are they colored? If you have fingernail fungus the topicals don't work. You would have to take a prescription oral drug (Lamisil) for three months then it kills the nail. I just went through this with my toe nail. The nail is usually yellowish.
Avatar m tn He prescribed a urea nail stick to aid with the fungus like matter under the fingernail. I keep it trimmed back to allow for new nail growth, but it gets to a certain point and develops this gross looking end to it. Any idea why it's taking so long for the nail to regenerate, or is this an indication of a possible underlying cause?

Avatar m tn Tinea versicolor is caused by a fungus that lives in the skin of almost all adults. Factors that can cause the fungus to become more visible include high humidity and immune or hormone abnormalities. Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines. Second possibility is of vitiligo. It is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed. As a result, white patches appear on the skin in different parts of the body.
565779 tn?1216513164 five years ago, now I have a foot fungus and toe/fingernail fungus. I have also been finding these tiny black things, the size of a pinhead all over my skin, some are even going into my fingernails, as well as my skin. Is this another type of fungus, or do I have some strange bug inside of me? Also does anyone notice a gross odor from the nail fungus? Are people with Hep. C prone to fungi infections?
Avatar m tn There are also centers that offer laser treatment of intractable fungal infection, although it is as effective as giving oral anti fungal medication, but without the usual side effects of the antifungal pill. Avatar m tn I'm 34 year old healthy male who sufferes from bad toenail fungus for years that is beginning to become painful. I've been prescribed Terbanfile Oral 250 mg QD as a treatment by a dermatologist for a 90 day treatment. My PCP has told me there are possible risks/benefits which I was somewhat aware of and am researching further before proceeding. The scariest thing he told me is that terbafine can cause "irreversible" damage which I assumed was to the liver.
