Avatar f tn if you wear artificial nails (whether drug store or acrylic), you create a condition that would allow fungus to populate and thrive. wearing nail polish prevents you from seeing the nail. if you get an infection, you may not know about it until weeks later...preventing you from cleaning and brushing the nail.

Avatar n tn I have also been under the impression that you cannot do any surgery with fingernail polish. Definitely ask your hospital first. Can't have the acrylic nails because of the oxygen Meyer and can't have polish so that the color of your nail bed can be visually monitored in the event of complications.
Avatar f tn They do that with a little monitor clipped to a fingertip that measures with a laser through your fingernail. Acrylic nails usually makes it impossible to get a good read. In order to keep them from having to rip one off while you're in labor I'd suggest not having them on when you go in.
Avatar m tn He prescribed a urea nail stick to aid with the fungus like matter under the fingernail. I keep it trimmed back to allow for new nail growth, but it gets to a certain point and develops this gross looking end to it. Any idea why it's taking so long for the nail to regenerate, or is this an indication of a possible underlying cause?
Avatar f tn Huh thats wired. I get the jewelry part. But nail polish?
Avatar m tn What do the lines look like and are they colored? If you have fingernail fungus the topicals don't work. You would have to take a prescription oral drug (Lamisil) for three months then it kills the nail. I just went through this with my toe nail. The nail is usually yellowish.
Avatar f tn I stayed out of the salon for the beginning months. The first trimester of pregnancy is like walking on egg shells. I just went to get a pedi at 32 weeks & wore a mask. I also went very early while the salon was empty & no one was getting those stinky acrylic nails done. I would say wait until after the first trimester & consultant with your OB.
Avatar f tn I used it for about 2-3 weeks. my nails became hard but then some of my nails started lifting from the nailbed. Meaning the nailwhite is growing backwards and there is space between the nail and nailbed. When I did the hardener treatment it used to burn a little (I thought that was normal, as the description mention minor burning). I am letting my nails grow out and some got better but 2 are verry stubborn. I keep them clean and dry. I also try to clean between the space.
Avatar f tn I'm pretty sure acrylic nails for you aren't the best way to go because of all the chemicals. I bought this nail polish called "knocked up nails". It's pregnancy safe nail polish. I also bought acetone free nail polish remover. I took it to the nail salon. I went as early as they opened and sat near the door and they kept it open for me. That way I wasn't exposed to any fumes.
Avatar n tn I am in first trimester and have acrylic nails, should I have them removed? I just recently found out that I am pregnant.
Avatar f tn But the acrylic nails? I miss getting my nails done. I want to get them done. But family and friends are saying I shouldn't because it's easier to scratch the baby when he's here. etc. Any input?
Avatar f tn ) just make sure the salon has good ven

Avatar f tn I've heard that you shouldn't get acrylic nails while pregnant could cause harm to the baby, has anyone else heard this?
Avatar f tn I read that it fine. Just pick a time that the nail salon is not that busy.
Avatar f tn I'm 11 weeks pregnant almost 12. Is it OK to get clear acrylic nails and paint then myself either a mask on so I don't breathe the fumes?
