Common Questions and Answers about Finger swollen red

finger

Now my finger is swollen with a red bump where the cut was. My finger is also very warm to the touch. What is this? And what do I need to do? Thanx!
I figured it would go away, but when I awoke this morning it was extremely painful, red and swollen. I then noticed a little bump on the side of my finger that was not there. My finger had gotten worse, red and warm to the touch and the swelling has went from the to slightly down the finger with the redness travelling down the side of the finger and down the middle of the top of my hand. Everyone keeps telling my just to soak it, I probably got bitten or it's infected.
A rose bush thorn punctured my finger and it became swollen. I washed it with soap and put Neosporin on it. I put an ice pack on it for about 1 min. and the next day the swelling and pain subsided and there was a tiny scab at the puncture site. The finger is still a little swollen. Do I need to go to the Doctor? This discussion is related to Red, Hot, Swollen Finger.
About i week ago i noticed the tip of my finger having a bump and was starting to swell. A day passed without any pain and my entire finger was slowly swelling up.. Now my finger tip is red right under the cuticle. I think i was bit by a spider because i know i haven't crushed my finger in any way. I can still move the finger but i cannot bend it. The pain wakes me up at night and the only way to get rid of the pain is take Ibuprofen. I have looked for puncture marks but i cant find any.
Now two days later is hurts and is red and swollen? I don't believe it's broken, it didn't really hurt that much when I hit it, and the cut is really small, like a paper cut size only a little wider. I had a tetnus shot about three years ago... I looked everywhere on the internet, but an infection doesn't make sense, cuz the cut is so small and not deep. But I can't bend it, and it is swollen from tip to my hand, and a little on my hand. (pointer finger).
Still some discomfort but nothing too noticable. However...my knuckle itches like mad! Also it still is fairly swollen and red. Should I see a doc about this? I'm ok with being a wuss, but this is just odd - even my husband says so, which makes me feel a bit of redemption.
About 2 months ago I woke up with a swollen pinky finger/palm. It was red and warm to the touch. I did not injure the finger or the palm in any way. I saw my doctor who ruled out arthritis, infection or any broken bones. I have been applying ice packs and taking anti inflammatories. Nothing seems to help as the pinky is still swollen and hard to bend. When I bend my pinky I get pain in the joint at the knuckle by the palm.
He is 16 months old. Saturday morning his smallest finger was hot and swollen and painful to him when we woke him up. The swelling was confined to just the last joint of his finger, to the tip. My husband examined it to see if there seemed to be a broken bone, but he thought not. As the morning went on, he appeared to be in a good deal of pain and just wanted to be held. By the afternoon, the swelling had increased to over halfway down his finger.
but certain parts became itchy and red- under toes, sides of feet, a little on top- no ankle swelling or redness. These itchy red areas become hard and painful to walk, the outbreaks last about 24-48 hours. The first time this to both feet and I passed it off to wearing new and cheap high heals for over 13 hours the day before (I teach). That day I also had some trouble with a family member who was staying with me- so I felt stress may have been a contributor?
.I woke up and got ready and my face started getting a red hot and swollen. I have been on Gentimicin for about 5 days for my eye swelling and I am not on anything else. Anyway , it looked like giant hives on my cheek bones and my face was on fire. My doctor didn't really know what to tell me. I started taking amoxicilian 250 3x/day and some childrens allergy meds. (I get heart palps and my BP is a little high so I can't take stronger) This is going on day 3.
starting about 2 months ago, the big toe on my right foot got red and swollen. swelling is from the nail up, more or less (i've had toenail fungus for years, never been a problem till now). saw doc who prescribed 2 weeks keflex, which helped with the swelling but not the redness. 2 weeks later i saw a surgeon who decided not to remove the nail, as the redness/swelling was spreading to the other toes on that foot.
I get littlle cuts on my fingers near th cuitcals and right now all of them are swollen red and when ever I touch them they bleed a little bit and it's not like a normal bleedingof a cut it's just a squeeze and that's all the blood. What is wrong with my hands?
It's been two days and it really hurts around my knuckle. It's not red but just a little slightly swollen at the knuckle. When I put ice on it it makes it hurt worse. Should it be looked at or will it go away on its on?
at the widest point my index finger is a good 1/4 inch wider than the other finger. Now there is a red tint to the swelling but no discharge at the punctures. Im getting worried as it seems like it must be getting infected, and its obviously far from the surface. What can a doctor do? oral antibiotics? amputate? or is it just residual swelling from deep bruising? my hand feels ok except now im noticing some faint pain in my thumb, although it could be unrelated. thanks!
The next day my hand became really swollen around and mostly above my CMC joint on my right hand and my index finger knuckle is a little swollen. The swollen area is hard and I don't have complete motion of my thumb. It hurts but not to the point where my mom is willing to take me to the doctor. From looking everything up onling it seems like I sprained my thumb. If someone has any idea what is going on I'd appreciate it.
I am 33 and in very good health. The 1st knuckle on my index finger is pretty swollen, stiff and has a fair amount of pain when I bend or touch it. I have already been to urgent care, and was told it was not infected due to no heat or redness. I was given Ibuprofen and a splint, told to follow up tomorrow if no improvement. They sugest bloodwork to test for uric acid or arthritis. he said possibly gout, but that is usually more painful.
on friday i was told that my finger was not fractured but my finger is still swollen in the middle, it looks as though my finger is crook, but the doctor (othro) said i had a crush injury and that i will have to have therapy what is crush injury? and how long does it take to heal, does this require surgery?
punctured my finger in the joint and now it is swollen and I cant bend it and it really is painful I dont know what to do
The break is at the second joint right under the knuckle. It is still swollen. It is also red and very painful. If i bump it at all it is unbearable. I know I will need to go back to the dr but I would like to have some idea of what may be wrong in order to ask the right question. Can anyone here help?
When i was 11 a girl broke my right index finger at school and no one believed me when I said it was broken. So obviously it wasn't splinted or even buddy tapped. In the eight grade my mom took me to a doctor that told her that my finger did break and that the bone healed eight degrees off. After six months of trying to buddy tape it and splint it, the bone only moved two degrees. The doctor recommended surgery to pin and straighten out the bone and my mom decided on getting me the surgery.
The other thing I noticed that pointer and middle finger were swollen a bit and I think they still are bit bigger (fingertip area) than same ones on other hand. The sensitiveness comes and goes by the day. Also found a tiny red dot on middle finger, under that I can feel tiny lump which isn't painful. Overall there wasn't significant pain since the day after incident. When I touch around the pointer's joint I feel it's bit sensitive to harder pushes.
Got into the dr, it was an infection, first round of anitbiotics did not help, so they determined it was a resistant strain of staph infection. 2nd round helped, finger is just a little swollen now and only slightly purple.
Hello, Thanks for posting your query. I have seen the photographs posted in your profile. From the history that you have provided it looks like paronychia of the nail which progressed to infection of the fingertip. Paronychia is a soft tissue infection around a fingernail that begins as cellulitis but that may progress to a definite abscess. It is of two types: acute caused by bacterial infection and chronic caused by fungal infection.
Now some seven to eight hours later it appears more like a bruise and on the side of my finger it is a deep red color. Any ideas what is going on?
One of her hands is normal, but her other hand (fingers and fingertips) continues to be numb and appears red, swollen, shrivelled/wrinkled looking, and sometimes she gets red dots on the back of her hand. Is there anything you have found that helps improve these symptoms?
The time that it was the worst, the outside of my index finger on my left hand was covered in bumps and it was very itchy, and my middle finger on that hand was swollen and sore at the joint. I noticed it after a morning of intense deep cleaning my house, so I wonder if it is an allergic reaction to the cleaners I use. I have seasonal allergies. I've had a few episodes since then, and it's now on my right index finger near the first joint, but it's never as bad as that day.
