Avatar f tn Got into the dr, it was an infection, first round of anitbiotics did not help, so they determined it was a resistant strain of staph infection. 2nd round helped, finger is just a little swollen now and only slightly purple.

Avatar n tn Haven't posted in some time, all has been well. I'm at the tail end of tx triple with Inc. 11 weeks to go. My question is I've got an infection in my finger. Not sure of the cause wood splinter, fish dorsal fin is what I've narrowed it down to,I've been to the ER, 4 different DR's had an ultra sound MRI no F body found in finger. No one has an answer. The infection has moved from the tip of my finger well past the knuckle.
Avatar f tn If we think of swelling as being the cause for both problems, that is, swelling from injury or infection is tending to cut off both blood circulation and nerve impulses to that finger, then you need to get the swelling down. If infection is causing it, you've got to see a physician.
Avatar f tn It could be a nail bed infection, also known as paronychia. If left untreated it can progress to a more severe infection of the entire finger. If an abscess has formed it needs to be drained and you will be given antibiotics for the infection. You may need to consult your primary care physician who will examine you and initiate appropriate therapy. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I would say it would be a good idea to check it out, you may need a tetanus shot and it sounds like it is infected, put some OTC anti biotic cream on a band aid on it till you can get it checked out, Good Luck
Avatar n tn Was it a metal hook? You might need a tetnus shot if you can't remember when your last one was. If it doesn't look infected you're probably okay, but 3 weeks is a while for it to still be swollen and tender...you may want to just call your doctor and ask him if he wants you to come in. Better safe than sorry!
Avatar n tn Please see a doctor as soon as possible. It sounds like your finger is infected, and if the infection has spread into your bloodstream, you need medical attention asap.
Avatar f tn Two years later it began to turn bright red and hurt really bad. They found that I had started to grow a second finger (or bone) underneath my my finger. The best description of it would be a bone spur. I went thru ANOTHER surgery to get the bone removed before it could really hurt me. The bone came out and measured 2 and a half inches long.
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, the pain and swelling in the finger can be due to pulp space infection or traumatic arthritis. If there is throbbing type of pain suggests pus formation. This may not be due to allergy. The plain radiograph will help to rule out pathology. Finger splint may be needed to give an absolute rest to the finger. Pain killers with anti-inflammatory activity will helps to reduce the inflammation and antibiotics to control infection, against prescription.
Avatar m tn i'm a 21 year old male who had a circumsicion 3 1/2 weeks ago and i have swelling where under the stitches were and i was wonder on what should i do about it to make it heal faster? I already talked to the doctor and he just told me to see him in 2months.
Avatar m tn Puncture wounds cause pain and swelling at the puncture site. If there is any infection there will be redness, swelling, pus, or watery discharge from a puncture wound that is not treated properly. If the person is not sure when they had their last tetanus shot, check with the doctor's office. If the wound has been contaminated with dirt a tetanus shot may be needed if it has been more than 10 years since your last shot or if your last tetanus shot was more than 5 years ago.
Avatar f tn I cut my left hand at the knuckle of the 2nd finger and to the right of that, received a total of 9 stitches on 12/5/08. I went to have them removes a week later, was put on Keflex for 10 days, stitches stayed in for another week. I am suppose to get them out again tomorrow. The ones on the knuckle area are still very painful, red and swollen. If the stitches are removed tomorrow, with the redness, pain and swelling, is there a chance this will force the suture line open?
Avatar n tn punctured my finger in the joint and now it is swollen and I cant bend it and it really is painful I dont know what to do
Avatar n tn There may not be nerve damage here. The surgery may have left some infection in the finger which can spread. This is just a possibility to be ruled out. Do you observe any swelling in the palm or the base of the finger? Hand surgery may also lead to a reflex sympathetic dystrophy. Please get these two conditions ruled out.
871193 tn?1239747128 I stabbed my finger last Sunday (4 days ago) and 2 days ago I noticed swelling around the distal phalange of my 4th finger. I need to find out if I may have an infection. It looks like a bee sting, and hurts like one. I don't have health insurance so seeking a professional is a last resort. Today, I've also noticed sharp pains in my elbow and wrist but I can't say for sure if they are coorelated.
Avatar n tn I had surgery to reattach the tendon in my finger. I had infection for almost 6 weeks and had to have some tendon removed because the infection was making it fray. I had to have it drained a second time. Now the infection seems to be gone but I am having a terrible issue with swelling and getting the use of my hand back. It has a glistening look to it and the skin is very tight from the swelling. I am in physio but finding it difficult. Is there possibly something being overlooked?
382218 tn?1341181487 Go to the doctor and get an antibiotic! Today! Hand surgeons are the specialists who rarely wait overnight to observe swelling or signs of infection to see what develops. It's a gamble with too high a risk and too little benefit. I have a friend who cut her index finger with a kitchen knife while preparing food. She cleaned it well, used antibiltic ointment, and closed it with butterflies.
Avatar m tn Yesterday I woke up and my hand (right little finger & finger next to it) hurt. I believe I slept with my fingers curled up tightly and thought it would just go away. But hurt all day and today it is swollen from little finger down along the outside of my hand and pain is much worse. I didn't hit my hand, so do not hink it is a broken bone....but I've had a broken thumb previously and pain & swelling are similar. Help!!!
Avatar n tn Hi, making it short and quick. My finger tip is swollen, red, tender, and a bit discolored. Could it be a ingrown nail or a infection? If so can it be treated at home? If so what should I do? Thank you in advance.

Avatar n tn I got an infection on my finger right behind the fingernail. It is very red and tender to touch> It is mostly on the top part of the finger. It is also rather swollen.
Avatar n tn For the last six months I keep getting some sort of infection on my ring finger where my wedding bands are. It is a ring all the way around my finger that is red in color, itchy, sometimes there are clear fluid filled blisters, and then when it starts to heal it becomes dry and peels. I was told by my jeweler that it was a fungus and to put rubbing alcohol on it several times a day. That works but it keeps coming back and I am cleaning my rings regularly.
Avatar n tn Hi Differentials here may include dishydrosis and a fungal infection. Fungal infection involving the finger nails is referred to as onychomycosis and they may cause some changes on the finger nails. If discharge is present in the area, then you may have the discharge cultured. The results of the culture will help determine the causative organism. This will help guide treatment later on. Applying topical antifungal cream with corticosteroid preparation will be able to help.
