Finger pain while playing guitar

Common Questions and Answers about Finger pain while playing guitar

finger

Avatar m tn It sounds that it might be due to infection on digital pulp space of the finger that is compressing nerves. It will create pain while performing any activity or on pressure. I would recommend that you consult a general physician for an examination and incision/drainage of the space. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn it sounds like callus buildup. when i first started playing guitar my fingers would get extra skin that peeled, and after being around other musicians, i was told the fingers build calluses because of the strings, which explained why when i first started playing, my fingers were really sore, but once i got calluses, the strings didnt hurt my fingers anymore. i did end up with really thick calluses on my fingertips, but i loved playing guitar, so i didnt mind.
959691 tn?1259410214 My nerves seem to be going crazy too. My right middle finger twitches sometimes then it takes several days off from twitching. Then my left arm (on the in side near my eldow) begain to twitch also. sometimes I think it's from playing the basss guitar because a play so hard I get blood blisters on my right index and my twicthing finger quite often. I get restless and some anxiety at night.
Avatar m tn I have 3 herniated discs one which causes nerve pain - This became much worse after a car accident but it started before that I have osteoarthritis - This is directly linked to guitar playing and the fingers I use most are the ones that are most visibly affected. I also get this kind of pain with doing anything too much with a specific finger, say using my pointer finger to control my laptop mouse pad.
Avatar m tn Last week I had a sudden onset of pain in my left middle finger joint while I was playing a stringed instrument, which is a usual activity for me. An X-ray showed bone deterioration at that joint so it seems my affliction is rehumatoid arthritis. I can see a reccomended orthopedic specialist in one month, and my question is should I find a specialist I can see sooner? In other words, how important is it to start treatment immediatly?
Avatar m tn My doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs to take in order take care of my tendinitis from guitar playing. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if my additional gastrointestinal problems would permit the use of them since they are known for having negative effects on the digestive system. So, my question is, can anyone suggest any alternative therapies? Should I keep it in a sling and avoid my guitar for a month or two?
Avatar f tn s from playing the basss guitar because a play so hard I get blood blisters on my right index and my twicthing finger quite often. I get restless and some anxiety at night.
Avatar m tn Need help in directing me to specific therapy to work on residual paralysis/weakness in my left hand due to a bout of Parsonage-Turner Syndrome. My grip is weaker but improving. The specific issue I'm having is in playing the guitar, which prevents me from forming a full or partial barre chord (where the first or first and second phalanges press multiple strings against the fretboard).
Avatar n tn I'm not sure pinched nerves are caused by guitar playing. I've also been playing guitar for about that long, but I have no pinched nerves from it. I am, however, wracked with pain from other things, and if you do have pinched nerves it's likely the posture we assume when we play the guitar, with too much neck bending.
19606750 tn?1480880764 Appears to have healed incorrectly, with knuckle bulging towards little finger, and the top of ring finger leaning towards middle finger somewhat. Finger works well enough though weaker/clumsier than normal it seems. Main motivation to fix is to make it easier for typing, and playing musical instruments (piano/guitar/violin) where I find it hampers progress in terms of agility/precision (I'm right handed, so use left hand for frets).
190885 tn?1333025891 dave...the sax is so tough...good for you...i play or try to play the piano/keyboard...i'm not good and learning but love it...i plan on tx with telaprevir hopefully summer or fall...it will be the first time on tx for me...i did think playing piano would be a neat thing to do while on tx..i've taken a couple hard shots in the head in the past so sometimes i wonder if some of my brain fog is from that or the hep..when i'm not rested enough things get real foggy even without tx...
738075 tn?1330575844 s kind of a pain, and more than a little embarrassing to be playing some good, complex fingerstyle guitar, and suddenly your left hand just decides not to work. It's kind of like the mule in the pack string that sits down, suddenly, and messes up the whole train. I have a guitar group that I meet with on a monthly basis.
4100205 tn?1349787589 Guess the Elocom creme for a couple of days should be quite fine, later follow up with white soft paraffin. ok?
1096392 tn?1257311240 Kami- I recently had a less serious bicycle accident- in which I sustained what I thought was minor head injury ( I was wearing a helmet) and had no memory of the accident. I had a CT scan, that showed no significant damage. Several weeks later, while on a 2 week bike trip I began to experience symptoms like you describe, loss of coordination in my left hand.
Avatar m tn It worsens with wrist extension all the time and with turning doorknobs, when I apply pressure to that region or when I play guitar too much. This pain is present all the time. In the x-ray of my wrist the doctor did not find anything and he said pain would go away on its own but still it's getting worse each day. Some time my ring and little finger get tingly while sleeping but not in a severe way. I am just worried about what has happened to my wrist.
738075 tn?1330575844 I played between sets last Saturday night after practicing my 3 songs during the day a couple of times.Well, I played like s#!t! My fingers just weren't keeping up with my brain, and I was making just one R hand mistake after another. Spastic, fatigued, numbed. I learned when I was a little kid to keep the tempo the same, even through mistakes, and many people won't even notice. But _I_ noticed! I hate this feeling of loosing my guitar ability.
Avatar m tn I expected it to go away after a few minutes, but lingered for almost a day. I did not think much of it, but I have began to pick up the guitar this summer, and a certain chord calls for me to put a little more pressure into the back of the neck of the guitar with this same thumb. I noticed maybe a half an hour of practice that this same super sensitivity returned and again has continued to linger.
Avatar n tn Any type of trauma to the fingers, such as playing the guitar, can cause fingertips to peel. Peeling fingertips can also be associated with certain infections, reactions to medications and, rarely, potentially serious medical conditions. A few simple measures can often stop the peeling, or at least slow it down: Wash your hands with an unscented soap. Use an unscented moisturizer after drying your hands. Avoid trauma to your fingertips. Wear gloves when washing dishes.
1985196 tn?1402190098 t care how it sounds to others lol I also play guitar but it has been a while....now I write and read more. However, I think that I may be good at playing drums.
Avatar m tn A few weeks later I started using my hand to open doors, play guitar, etc, with still minor pain. It has been two months now and my pointer finger still hurts a little when I play guitar or press my bike brake. I paid $125 for a meaningless doctor visit who said I need to see an orthopedic doctor instead. However, I did get an x-ray last week (two months after the fall). The x-ray results were 'undetermined'.
