Avatar f tn I had previously broken my ring finger (which is now healed) but now I can straighten my pinky properly I can straighten it if I move my ring finger but not on it’s own but my pinky was perfectly fine before I broke my ring finger and now I get the odd moments we’re there is a slight pain in my pinky anyone know what’s going on?
Avatar m tn I think I jammed my finger yesterday. I was tucking in my shirt and heard a pop, and then felt sharp pain in my index finger. Looking at it I noticed the top knuckle is bent in the direction it should bend at about a 45 deg. angle, but it will not straighten. It stays bent at 45 deg. even if I try to straighten out my finger. There isn't a lot of pain. It was numb last night and is still not 100%. The only pain and swelling are actually on the middle knuckle. What should I do?
866972 tn?1240186975 “Mallet finger refers to a condition in which the end joint of a finger bends but will not straighten by itself. In this situation, the joint can be pushed straight but will not hold that position on its own.” Treatment is physiotherapy therapy and splint. Refer: http://www.eatonhand.com/hw/hw015.htm In some cases this is an inherited disorder, especially if the pinky finger curves toward the fourth finger. This can also be confirmed if there are other family members who have this problem.
Avatar f tn For a long time my left elbow locks up and it hurts to straighten it . It makes a loud cracking noise too. And recently I have been having pain in my ring finger. It doesn't happen all the time. What would cause this?
Avatar m tn I'm not sure my that I broke the bone though. There was not too much pain. Just minor swelling and pain. But my finger didn't even turn purple. I just treated it with a splint and ice and eventually stopped wearing the splint. Maybe this is why? But either way, I don't think this bump is bone. It hurts when I press it and it is a ball. I don't know for sure but I would think bone would be way harder.

Avatar f tn I fell at a baseball game around 6 weeks ago, I fell on my hand and fingers were bent back under me. I had x-rays done and have 2 small fractures in Pinki finger, However, My pointer finger 2ND joint is twice the normal size, skin keeps peeling off, and I can't fully straighten it out. Also, the back of my hand and palm swell when I use them for a period of time. The pain in my hand is about a 6 on pain scale. I have been to the Dr. twice now. I ice it and massage it as best I can tolerate.
Avatar f tn For some reason though after this cast was taken off I was unable to straighten my finger but at first I thought it was just stiff. Considering it's been almost two years and I still can't straighten my finger and if someone forces it to straighten it hurts is rather worrying. The knuckle also gets very sore when cold. Help would be much appreciated.
1493284 tn?1294875712 Last night I noticed I couldn't straighten my right pinky finger all the way-- it stayed stubbornly curved. The day before I'd woken up with both hands numb/achy to up the arms, and they'd remained thus all day, but yesterday they were fine. Good times!
Avatar f tn I dislocated my PIP joint on my ring finger 2 weeks ago. It was reduced at the hospital and I went to the hand clinic 24 hours later. They said it was doing ok and I didn't need to go back unless there was a problem with it. I was told to keep it buddy strapped for 2 weeks. I now have the buddy strapping off. The finger isn't that painful unless I bump the joint accidentally. I'm a little concerned as I can't fully straighten it or bend it more than halfway.
Avatar f tn It is red and swollen at the tip like normal, but in addition my entire finger is swollen to the point where it is visibly larger than the same finger on my other hand. It also hurts the infected area when I bend it more than a little bit or straighten it, so I have been keeping it in the slightly bent position that does not cause pain for most o today and yesterday. Normally these infections do not worry me but this one has got me worried. Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn The doctor gave me the option of letting it heal on its own crooked or surgery to set it straight with pins. How did your finger heal? Did it straighten at all? Thanks!
1311724 tn?1273689335 anyway you would be advised to visit your GP,My brother has had a lump removed from his finger which was making his finger bend into the hand and it couldnt be straightened and was aching when it bent over.
Avatar n tn Hello, I was in an accident mid November (on my motorcycle and hit my a truck) where I fractured the tip of my right middle finger as well as sprained it (had x-rays done after the accident). I never really had any pain with it and I believe the fractured part of it has healed, but I still can't fully bend or straighten the finger (still swollen as well).
Avatar f tn s much better today as I can straighten it but the kuncle has sunk in a little bit and a bit pain when straighten and if I clinch my fist and let go fast to a normal hand it hurts so do I still have to worry?
Avatar f tn although with my right hand i could straighten it and i then put a finger splint on it to keep it straight. i remove the splint to exercise the finger so it will be flexible. i have found the contracture to be stronger as more time passes. 9 days ago i woke in the morning with severe muscle spasms, that jolted my right upper body. i was frightened, never having had this happen before.
Avatar n tn Initially could make a fist but now the knuckle is enlarged and out of proportion. Cannot straighten finger. Splinted it originally but it did not help. Just last night I was able to start straightening and then today I was mountain biking and I fell on it and it hurts and looks swollen again. I can still make a fist but it is very painful.
Avatar n tn i hav to manipulate it to straighten it and it feels like it pops back into place. the joint from this finger in the palm of my hand is sore, swollen and feels ard. i have had bloods taken for all none arthritic, systemic, thyroid etc conditions with no abnormalities please advise.
1308443 tn?1302693321 Keep your finger in the splint and also take pain killers and apply ice packs to decrease the pain and inflammation. Take care!
Avatar f tn There is no point in getting a second opinion. The xray would have showed a broken bone. Your finger would have been strapped up to the next finger to keep it straight and broken bones take about 6 weeks to mend. torn tendons take much longer. I damaged my fibrial posterial tendon (at the back of my leg) by using the treadmill at the gym. I couldn't use my let for 9 months because of the swelling and pain. As you are concerned, you should see your doctor to put your mind at ease.
Avatar m tn Gentle stretches and strengthening exercises involving all fingers and thumb will help straighten the finger to some extent. Along with this some extra attention can be paid to little finger while doing the stretches. Unless there is severe bone/joint deformity, usually this will bring the little finger to a near normal position. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn a) I was under the impression that tenosynovitis normally manifests in the form of difficulties to straighten or flex the finger. I have no such problems. Could it still be a tenosynovitis problem? b) If it is early stages of tenosynovitis, would splinting/physical therapy be a viable alternative treatment? I have heard that there are some risks involved in steriod injections. Just some background, I am a 35 year old female with very active use of hands.
Avatar f tn She took X-rays and told me that everything looks fine and that I should eventually be able to straighten out my finger as long as I keep doing my exercises. Just yesterday I had my second appointment to have the stitches removed and I expressed my concerns once again about my finger still being crooked. The doctor took a brief look at it and told me that there is nothing that can be done about it and that my finger will always remain like this.
Avatar n tn You need help to get the finger to straighten and have it strapped up. An xray would show if it is broken.
987762 tn?1671273328 I don't know about the arm pain but the finger sounds like you could have a 'trigger' finger (otherwise known as stenosing tenosynovitis). It usually results from repeititive movement rather than any nerve involvement. It happens when the tendon, or the sheath it passes through as the fingers move, gets inflammed and then 'sticks' as it passes through the sheath. It can be very painful. I've had many a steroid shot to coax these back into a calm state.
