Common Questions and Answers about Finger nail zinc

nail

Avatar n tn The second possibility would be the finger having been hit and sustaining some damage that causes the nail to grow looking different. Next set of suggestions is along the lines of a zinc deficiency. Though the way a zinc shortage appears in the nails more often is ridging or flaking, they can also apparently come out orange. You could try increasing your zinc intake. (If you take a supplement, don't go wild and take too much; just one a day.

Avatar m tn At the top of the fingernail, where it grows out fron the finger, is a small semi-circle of white then the rest of the finger nail is pinkish. Prior to moving to where I now live my nails all had this little area now 3 years later only my thumbs do. Can anyone tell me if this is something to be concerned about? Thanks for any help!!
15740368 tn?1442665097 Hi ! I slammed my right thumb on the car door two weeks ago and I have a small fracture on the distal bone and subungual hematoma. I took meds for pain, inflammation and antibiotics, now I only take Vit D, Zinc and Calcium.I had bandage for one week, but now I have orthosis because my nail might fall off. I have dark blue-purple-black hematoma under and around the nail and it's really solid on touch. The nail started to change the color from dark blue to purple and it's still growing.
Avatar f tn What does it mean or what can my husband do...his thumbnails have a ridge in center of nail and then it breaks at the end. It's a v in the center of nail. He keeps them short but it still breaks.

453329 tn?1205959232 It can be caused by zinc deficiency, It may be caused by cirrhosis, chemotherapy or trauma to the nail matrix. Take a diet rich in zinc and some zinc supplements for some days. If the symptoms persist then please get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.

Avatar n tn From what I have read the spots are due to damage to the nail, like bumping the nail. They only disappear when the nail grows. Although, don't know if we are referring to the same type of spots.
681148 tn?1437661591 I noticed that my right thumb nail had a white spot near the middle of the nail bed on the left side. The nail has since grown out some, so the white spot will probably be gone by the time I see my PCP. My other thumb nail has a groove or pit that is like looking at a ditch on the nail bed. One part before it dips into the ditch seems thicker. The other part seems much thinner. The groove or ditch is pronounced. Both of these things on my thumb nails is new for me.
Avatar n tn I get white spots in my fingernails. Its from hitting your nail on something. I think its like a "nail bruise". Do you think this could be it?
Avatar m tn whitlow outbreaks over the last 3 years (acquired accidentally while wiping acyclovir off my pinky finger -- got into the space between nail bed and finger). These "classic" outbreaks both formed what looked like a blister under the skin -- though there always appeared to be a thick layer of skin over the blister. Last month, during an extremely stressful time, my pinky and ring finger both swelled, had prodome feeling, but no blister.
Avatar n tn Thanks Brandywinne To geminigirl1963 , the old nail already from 1 week dropped and now the new nail is only cover the half of the finger and it is like it will never grow as it show like my other nails , meaning i am afraid that the process is already finished without letting the new nail grow to full.
Avatar m tn Actually, nail discoloration is a sign of a zinc deficiency. That would also mean your electrolytes might be out of balance. Either or both can cause what you're feeling, though so can lots of other things. Mineral deficiencies are not easy to test for, as they can vary through the day and the week and the month, but you might check your medical tests to see how your zinc levels are doing. Also check your iron levels.
Avatar f tn Gloves should be worn when doing dishes. Nails should be cut short, and nail salons and nail polish remover should be avoided. Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) or olive oil holds the moisture around the nails and decreases breakage. Biotin, zinc and/or glucosamine chondroitin may afford some decrease in breakage, but this has not been proven. found this, I think hydration has a lot to do with, There we more articles on this and other womans topics and HCV.
Avatar n tn The most common causes are bacterial or fungal infections which enters the skin around the nail that has been damaged by trauma, such as nail biting, finger sucking, dishwashing, or chemical irritants. The yellow-green color, indicates that a collection of pus has formed under the skin (called an abscess). If this is the case it may require an incision and drainage. Warm soaks in a mixture of 50% warm water and 50% liquid antibacterial soap 3-4 times daily for about 15 minutes.
Avatar f tn my nail has the same length of my nail from my uninjured hand, except that it slightly curves. It doesn't really curve completely *over* the finger, but it does curve. The main part that is missing is the fleshy bit behind the nail: my actual fingertip. There is basically no fingertip. When I type, for example, the only part that touches (and can touch) the keys is my nail.
Avatar f tn s started to bleeding when i got the cut by my finger nail , i dont know how long red and dark spot like blood stay in my finger nail , its same no risk?
Avatar n tn two days ago i slammed my middle finger in the door and instantly my nail started turning black. now the tip of my finger is swollen and the nail is still black. i dont think its broken because i can still bend it.
Avatar n tn My finger nail was crushed and halfway down the nail bed, the nail is torn and slightly poking into the cuticle. The nail is still attached to my skin at the top of the nail and in the bed at the bottom. This happened last night and my finger is slightly numb, swollen, and there is a lot of what looks like discharge (oily?). It’s been lightly bleeding. I can move my finger and curl it slightly with some pain. Do I need to go to urgent care or can this be taken care of at home?
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, if these cells are destroyed the nail will not re-grow. From your symptoms it looks like superficial burn of the finger nail which should soon regrow. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I have a very annoying callus or growth on my right hand ring finger just next to the nail bed it grows to form a hard and rough chunk of yellowish skin and eventually annoys me so much that I remove it either by biting or using nail scissors! When it's the rough skin it doesn't really cause me pain but when I remove a lot of it it it tends to feel rough but soft and starts to feel swollen and sore. It doesn't matter how many times I cut it away it just keeps growing back!
Avatar m tn Can the hiv vaginal fluid or blood infect my exposured cut and sore nail bed (no nail to protect) finger Best regards J
Avatar m tn He had a mishap with a machine and it ended up slicing through his index finger, under the nail. The nail was ripped off and part of the upper nail bed (in the body of the finger itself) is exposed. He put the nail back into place, however the nail bed (?) is still exposed. Should he go to a doctor and get stitches for the injury? See photo: [IMG]http://i51.tinypic.com/2nbd2k7.
Avatar f tn He said it was osteo-arthritis evev when I kept telling him my finger nail was sore and I thought there was infection under the nail. It has gotten worse and now the nail is turning blue around the cuticle and I cannot straighten out the finger. What should I do or what do you think is wrong. It ALL started with the nail problem.
Avatar m tn Hi, What do you recommend to rid periungual warts? I have 3 one right hand and one small one on left. The ones on my right I have had for years. I am so sick of them. My Doctor prescribed Carac cream, but it really didn't work and made underneath my finger nail bloody, scab up and deformed the nail more than what it already is. I even tried apple cider vinegar for 4 to 5 weeks that was EXTREMELY painful, only to have all 4 return. I am now on week 5 of Zymaderm for warts.
