Common Questions and Answers about Finger nail pitting

nail

Avatar f tn Hi Auntiejessi, i have a quick question please. I started noticing nail pitting on left index finger offlate, only one finger is affected, may be it was there even before this encounter, i don't know. I think I'm overlooking at things. Could you please let me know if any STD causes nail pitting? Thank you so much for your response.
Avatar m tn Also, both my toenails show a slow regression in the line where the nail is attached to the nail bed. Lastly, about a month ago the ring fingers in both my hands show fine pitting, 5-6 pits per nail, needle head size. I saw a dermatologist that without any lab tests prescribed me with itraconazole. After one session of the drug (200mg Twice a day for one week) now I'm one week before starting the next dose and there is absolutely no change.

560684 tn?1306712545 but recently i have been seeing other symptoms; like moderate pitting of the finger nails (this has been going on for the past 3 months), weaking of fingernails along with peeling of nails and itching of the pubic area - past 2 weeks(without any signs of pubic lice - but when i scratch the 'root' of the hairs have these small while things - almost like some sort of internal moist dandruff...the skin is fine though).
Avatar m tn Before our trip I changed my diet up to shed a few extra kgs so maybe that bought on the nail pitting? we also hit the booze pret hard while we were there so maybe that assisted with the nail pitting.? As you can probably tell I am quite paranoid... What's my chances of contracting HIV? Am I worrying way too much about the nail pitting? Is it common or just a coincidence? Has anyone been through something similar? Thanks in advance for your thoughts, replies and advice, cheers.

Avatar m tn i had no other symptom but i had a mouth sore with nail pitting...what possible cause can it be?thank you...
Avatar f tn What is interesting is that I have always had (though minor), nail pitting in some of my finger nails. Manicures and nail polish often cover this, though as a child it was only minor. Leading up to my alopecia discovery I noticed an increase in nail pitting and too a diagnosed thursh outbreak (which, I am still trying to get under control). I am a vegetarian. Always have been. I do eat diary (yoghurt daily, some cheese and some eggs). I am lactose intolerant with Milk.
Avatar n tn I have pitting edema in my face (if I poke my cheeks with my finger, an indentation stays behind for a bit). It's worse on the left. My face isn't really puffed up like the moon or anything. I've always had chipmunk cheeks, and I'm overweight, so Idk, but they are pitting. I've googled and see that some potential causes are cellulitis, hypothyroidism, tooth abscess, allergies, trauma, infections, inflammation, I think lupus?, and cancer.
Avatar m tn So, for the past year at least I notice when I take off my socks I have an indentation around where the elastic of the socks fit around the leg. It's not a normal indentation, it's a visible dent that can be seen at an angle. It takes about an hour to go back to normal. My socks usually sit just above my ankle. I first noticed this when I was doing a job where I was on my feet all day. These days, and infact most of my life, I sit at a desk for 12 hours a day.
Avatar f tn I also have constant aching in my sacroiliac, leg pain, heaviness and pitting edema in my calves when I stand and walk...red nail folds, that swell and throb when I walk, knee function loss, hair loss on both legs and thinning hair on my head, and whole body swelling and night time urination.
Avatar n tn Thanks Brandywinne To geminigirl1963 , the old nail already from 1 week dropped and now the new nail is only cover the half of the finger and it is like it will never grow as it show like my other nails , meaning i am afraid that the process is already finished without letting the new nail grow to full.
Avatar n tn The most common causes are bacterial or fungal infections which enters the skin around the nail that has been damaged by trauma, such as nail biting, finger sucking, dishwashing, or chemical irritants. The yellow-green color, indicates that a collection of pus has formed under the skin (called an abscess). If this is the case it may require an incision and drainage. Warm soaks in a mixture of 50% warm water and 50% liquid antibacterial soap 3-4 times daily for about 15 minutes.
Avatar f tn my nail has the same length of my nail from my uninjured hand, except that it slightly curves. It doesn't really curve completely *over* the finger, but it does curve. The main part that is missing is the fleshy bit behind the nail: my actual fingertip. There is basically no fingertip. When I type, for example, the only part that touches (and can touch) the keys is my nail.
Avatar f tn s started to bleeding when i got the cut by my finger nail , i dont know how long red and dark spot like blood stay in my finger nail , its same no risk?
Avatar n tn two days ago i slammed my middle finger in the door and instantly my nail started turning black. now the tip of my finger is swollen and the nail is still black. i dont think its broken because i can still bend it.
Avatar n tn My finger nail was crushed and halfway down the nail bed, the nail is torn and slightly poking into the cuticle. The nail is still attached to my skin at the top of the nail and in the bed at the bottom. This happened last night and my finger is slightly numb, swollen, and there is a lot of what looks like discharge (oily?). It’s been lightly bleeding. I can move my finger and curl it slightly with some pain. Do I need to go to urgent care or can this be taken care of at home?
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, if these cells are destroyed the nail will not re-grow. From your symptoms it looks like superficial burn of the finger nail which should soon regrow. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn Anyone have swollen ankles. Where u can press it down with ur finger & it'll actually dent in for a bit? Is that normal??
Avatar f tn I have a very annoying callus or growth on my right hand ring finger just next to the nail bed it grows to form a hard and rough chunk of yellowish skin and eventually annoys me so much that I remove it either by biting or using nail scissors! When it's the rough skin it doesn't really cause me pain but when I remove a lot of it it it tends to feel rough but soft and starts to feel swollen and sore. It doesn't matter how many times I cut it away it just keeps growing back!
Avatar m tn Can the hiv vaginal fluid or blood infect my exposured cut and sore nail bed (no nail to protect) finger Best regards J
Avatar m tn He had a mishap with a machine and it ended up slicing through his index finger, under the nail. The nail was ripped off and part of the upper nail bed (in the body of the finger itself) is exposed. He put the nail back into place, however the nail bed (?) is still exposed. Should he go to a doctor and get stitches for the injury? See photo: [IMG]http://i51.tinypic.com/2nbd2k7.
Avatar f tn He said it was osteo-arthritis evev when I kept telling him my finger nail was sore and I thought there was infection under the nail. It has gotten worse and now the nail is turning blue around the cuticle and I cannot straighten out the finger. What should I do or what do you think is wrong. It ALL started with the nail problem.
