Finger joint weakness

Common Questions and Answers about Finger joint weakness

finger

I have been experiencing a gradual weakness in my left little finger and ring finger. I am right handed. I had a nerve conduction test and an MRI of my elbow. The MRI came back negative. I do not even have arthritis in my elbow which is a good thing.
However, I still occasionally notice twitching in my fingers, mostly in my middle and ring finger of my left hand. They seem to shake back and forth. These two fingers are also somewhat achy in the joint area. And while sometimes I think these 2 fingers seem slightly weaker, when I am busy I barely notice it at all, for example I am typing this without trouble.
The last month my finger pain has really gotten bad and has now started in on my right hand too - and that started with a bout of SHARP pain in the pinky finger joint but is now in the middle, ring, pinky on that hand too - still worse on the left. what gives?
She mainly notices the weakness in her pointer finger and thumb. It has not improved but nor has it gotten any worse. It is difficult to use nail clippers or hold onto something tightly. She also notices a difference playing the piano. She has no other symptoms and is very healthy and fit otherwise. Any suggestions?
FINALLY THE FINGERS ON MY LEFT HAND SHAKE AND ALSO WHEN HELD OUT MY LITTLE FINGER MOVES FROM SIDE TO SIDE, MY INDEX FINGER MOVES FORWARD IN SHORT JERKS AND THEN OCCASINALLY MY THUMB AND INDEX FINGER SHAKE WHEN AT REST. I HAVE A FROZEN SHOULDER IN THAT ARM WHICH I HAVE HAD FOR 14 MONTHS AND THE MUSCLE I ORGINALLY INJURED HURTS AS MUCH TODAY AS IT DID ORGINALLY EVEN AFTER A STREOID INJECTION THAT DID NOT WORK. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION.
Stress and hyperventilation can also cause a similar numbness/tingling. This typically occurs in the finger tips and occasionaly around the mouth. This can also occur with disorders of calcium metabolism. Reasonable tests would include a ionized calcium and a PTH (parathyroid hormone) level. However, given your symptom of "heaviness" could suggest lots of things, but developing weakness would be the primary concern to rule out.
I am 26 years old and have had chronic joint pain for years and wonder if there is anything I can do about it.
I've had random, debilitating joint pain for about 6 months. I'm fine during the day (usually) but come evening it settles in. It may be a thumb, a knee, the inside of an ankle, etc... Some nights I can barely walk thru my house! Come morning I'm usually fine, too. I've been tested for arthritis, came back negative. I have spinal stenosis and high cholesterol (I'm only 31!) Any suggestions so I can point my DR in a direction when I can finally afford to go again would be greatly appreciated.

When you simply tape the 4th and 5th fingers together the bottom joint of the finger is still mobile. I'm assuming that's why the dr. recommended the splint. Also consider that the 4th and 5th fingers are the most mobileof the 4 fingers with respect to the palm moving. For instance when you make a fist the pointer and middle finger bones in the palm stay in about the same place, but the ring and pinky actually wrap toward the thumb.
Before I started Plaquenil, my hair was falling out, I was super dizzy, had been so nauseous for a year and a half (extreme nausea), along with the fatigue/weakness and joint/muscle pain. It took about 2 weeks to see some improvement, but as each month has passed I feel better and better. The reddness in my eyes is starting to go away finally. (have been taking it for 6 months.) There is some diarhea that goes along with the plaquenil, but I had that anyway with the lupus.

Not very much, but it is a little uncomfortable. The middle joint of my right middle finger has been hurting for about a week and is slightly swollen. It is getting a little worse every day. It feels a bit hotter to the touch, than the others. (I did NOT hit or twist this finger) Does anyone know what this could be? It kind of sounds like the onset of RA or RA in a mild form to me??? Could that be right? FYI, I'm seeing my doctor about it next week.
For those who don't remember me , i am 37years old male suffering from Hashimoto's for last 3 years and suffering from many symptoms, i must admit lot better then before but again not feeling same way as before . I have been dealing with muscles weakness and arm finger/foot joint pain, although for last 2 times my TSH level is 1.54/1.84 with FT4 1.44/1.52. Because of those muscles/joint pain and fatigue smyptoms , i am going through lot of anxiety which is effecting my daily life lot .
About 3 months ago, it started occurring in my left foot. Since then, I have developed bizarre joint pain in my feet, knees, wrist, fingers.. etc. Some days my left knee and right finger will hurt.. some days my wrist... it seems to move around, and doesn't necessarily occur on both sides of my body. I also have general fatigue, low libido, and my appetite seems to have faded. I'm 5'6 and 128 pounds and have a lot of muscle. (I lift weights and generally feel strong, but tired..
and I am desperately trying to figure out why I continue to break out in hives and have joint pain in my elbows, feet, hands and legs. I too started breaking out in hives after taking the antibotic Solodyn for acne. After a trip to the ER, it was assumed that I had an alergic reaction to the medicine. I stopped taking the medicine after only 3 weeks and needless to say, I am still breaking out in hives and have joint pain. I have been tested for allergies and that was negative.
, lupus, etc) and was negative. Have appt. Feb 6 with Rheumatologist. No restriction of motion or weakness in any joint, just mild pain. Duration 4 months. Now, just the last 4-5 nights I've been experiencing hand numbness about 1x/night while sleeping. Mainly this has been on the ulnar sides of the hands (pinky finger) but recently 1x it was just the medial part (thumb and adjacent 2 fingers).
I am right handed. It started in my pinky and has included my ring finger now. I have decreased muscle mass on my hand, wrist, forearm. Tried several dr's, many don't know or don't believe me. Most recent dr noticed decreased strength in my right ankle as well, I cannont flex my right foot for very long or very high. Other problems maybe related or not: chronic constipation, decreased feeling but not numbness in right finger tips and toes.
They're typically between the size of a 1-2p coin and the first joint of the index finger, round or squished (although on the leg, they can be much larger), and never painful. I wouldn't call these accident bruises, cos I tend to remember my ridiculous accidents, and even if you walk into a table, those suckers hurt, which these don't. Given how accident prone I am, I still don't GET 'random bruises'. I remember. I bruise easily.
neck or back etc) and pain that may radiate down the arm or leg (depending on where the problem is), including pain radiating to the hand or finger as in your case. In more advanced cases, muscle weakness or sensory symptoms such as tingling or numbness may occur. A radiculopathy is often diagnosed based on history, physical examination, and MRI of the spine. However it sounds like your symptoms are triggered by finger movement so this makes radiculopathy less likely.
after i finished the antibiotics the pain was not any better and I had developed new symptoms extreme fatigue joint pain muscle pain bone pain (all these pains are all over my body but the worste pain is in my hips) small joints in hands and fingers look all red and discoloured irregular heartbeat flutters shoirtness of breath weakness pain under left ribcage and sometimes right ribcage.. hurts more if i cough or sneeze.. like a pressure kind of pain...
Of late it has been in the form of joint pain especially in the hips. Most recently all over muscle and joint pain and weakness. Lasts about 4 or 5 days and then leaves until next time.
What type of leg/arm weakness do you experience? I have heard many experience more of a muscle fatigue where their leg or arm feels like it is weighed down with cement. My weakness is more of a "shakiness" or where my legs feel like jello or wobbly. They do not feel "heavy". Actually, there are times where my whole body feels like it's shaking, but it's only visible in my hands. Is there different types of weakness in MS or do you experience different types?
Which is weaker, the index finger or the little finger?
About 10 days after taking the higher dose I started getting all sorts of weird symptoms such as, muscle weakness, joint pain, feeling sluggish. Then after another week or two I began having elevated temps of 99 to 100.1., sweating more, feeling shaky. It became so bad that I felt faint and had heart racing. Went to the ER and they checked my level again. It was down to TSH 0.7. So within five weeks my TSH level went from 5.4 to 0.7.
