Common Questions and Answers about Finger joint surgery

Avatar n tn In 2004 I broke by PIP joint in my pinky finger during a basketball game. I had surgery about a week later and had a pin put in. I then started physical therapy a few days later. From day one I was not able to bend the PIP joint at all. I thought this was due to the fact that I just had surgery. 7 years later I am not able to bend the PIP joint at all. It is basically in a straight line with no movement. My DIP joint won't staighten.
Avatar f tn When i was 11 a girl broke my right index finger at school and no one believed me when I said it was broken. So obviously it wasn't splinted or even buddy tapped. In the eight grade my mom took me to a doctor that told her that my finger did break and that the bone healed eight degrees off. After six months of trying to buddy tape it and splint it, the bone only moved two degrees. The doctor recommended surgery to pin and straighten out the bone and my mom decided on getting me the surgery.
Avatar m tn Wish you had received an answer I have the same symptom. Index finger near the joint with a burning sensation, not when touching it but when carrying a plastic shopping bag or when my purse handles lay across the finger between the first and middle knuckle.
Avatar m tn I have had two surgeries on my finger. The first surgery they placed two small screws in the bone, and when I went the next week for the follow up they had popped out of place and needed a second surgery. During the second surgery they placed a 1&1/2 inch pin down the tip of the finger, a metal band around the bone, and a suture that went around the bone and through the top on my fingernail. I got the pin out November 2nd, but the metal band stayed around the bone.
Avatar n tn I have had type I diabetes for 33 years (since age 13). I've never had any complications until the last two years. Since then, I've had trigger finger (left) which required surgery, frozen shoulder (left), pain in hip (left), tinnitus in ear (left) after extreme pain behind the ear (the tinnitus has continued for months now), and I've also torn my calf muscle (left) followed by a torn right calf muscle 5 months later (both tears were so loud that an entire room of people heard).
Avatar f tn The first surgery was a disaster, the finger was now dislocated! The 2nd surgery (july 2011 at a different hospital!) was a arthrodesis of my left pinky end joint to fix the dislocation (the fracture healed on its own). Now I have a pin in my finger. The pin is only visable on an x-ray as it is internal. Will this type of pin be removed? If so when/how? Also, I have very little movement in my left pinky (about 5%) will this improve? I'm in pain quite a bit and the feel of it is awful!
Avatar m tn Doctors were unable to save the middle finger, but they sewed up my index finger the night of the 5th (it was pretty much split open). I had surgery the following day and had 2 pins inserted into my index finger. I had those pins in my index finger for 4 weeks (just had them removed on 1/10/11). I haven't been able to move that index finger for 4 weeks since the pins were still in there, as any movement in that finger caused extreme pain...
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm an 18 year old female with pretty bad joint pain (at least that's what I'm assuming it is.) When I was about 10 or 11, I discovered I was missing a knuckle on my right ring finger. My finger was then about the same size as my pinky, and seemed like it had a 'shrinking' effect, due to the fact all my other fingers were growing and my ring finger was not. I don't remember much about what the doctors said about it, as it was 8 years ago.
Avatar n tn 3 months ago I had trigger finger surgery and have had problems ever since. My doctor took out a tendon from my middle in order to stop the clicking in my middle finger. I have been having severe pain...like nerve ending smart pain periodically in my finger. It almost takes to the ground it is so painful. Sometime it takes 30 - 40 minutes for my finger to feel better. Is it normal for a tendon to be remove to fix a clicking finger? If so, is the pain normal? Thanks!
467797 tn?1216211257 My finger is stuck in a bowed position, the tendon is standing out and feels very hard and it (finger and joint) gets very swollen. Also, pain is radiating down into my palm In the past few days, my finger is now slightly tingling but I am not sure if it's from the TF or my Raynaud's. I am seeing my primary again in a week but this tingling has me concerned. Should I push to see her sooner? I plan on asking her if I can get the tendon release surgery.

Avatar n tn I broke my pinky finger through the joint playing rugby about 6 months ago. I didn't have to get surgery but I had like exercises I had to do everyday so I didn't loose movement in that finger. Just last month I got full movement back...so it could take a while. Hope all goes well!

Avatar m tn The doctor gave me the option of letting it heal on its own crooked or surgery to set it straight with pins. How did your finger heal? Did it straighten at all? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I'm 57 and developed arthritis in the last few months. My right pinkie finger has swollen to the point that it looks and feels like it's broken. It's the middle joint between the hand knuckle and the nail knuckle. There's now a lump or "knob" where it feels broken. I even have to be careful drying my hands because if I forget to "guard" the joint and bend or twist the finger accidentally, it's very painful.
Avatar m tn I meant to say the proximal phalange.
Avatar f tn I had surgery to repair tendon in ring finger two weeks ago. First off the incisions made were way more than I expected, it went from middle of my palm to til bout 1/2 inch from tip of finger on both top and bottom, Dr said he had to pt two pins in my finger. Now I'm told I will have to have joint replacement due to extensive damage to my knuckles and joints. The pain and swelling are horrible and I can not move nor feel my ring finger still. Is this normal for tendon damage being repaired?
19186715 tn?1473640683 I had surgery in 2010 because I fractured my joint and the two bones beside the joint and dislocated the joint in my elbow. A screw was put in and in 2011 the doctor took off the screw head because it was bulging out. Now I can't lift anything because it gives out and i drop anything in that hand. And sometimes out of no where I get a shooting pain from my elbow to my pinkie finger.
Avatar f tn Followed up with family doctor in a week, another xray, he said yes cracked around middle joint (side of the middle joint that faces towards middle finger). However the next day he phoned and said no its not broken. About a month later went to physiotherapy which included ultrasound treatment and compressions stocking. This lasted about three to four months. In Spring of this year I had no improvement.
Avatar f tn I dislocated my pinky finger 5 weeks ago. From joint to tip was perpendicular to bottom of finger. Was so horrified, I pulled up and put it back in place and iced it, but hurt so badly I went to the ER. X-ray showed no break and they said I did a really good job (straight). Taped it to a splint and told me to ice every 2 hours for 20 minutes and wear splint for 2 days.
Avatar f tn Last year in July I hurt my ring finger on my right hand. It was due to catching a ball which struck the finger. I had pain throughout the finger, couldn't bend the joint closest to the finger nail. Xrays were taken at the ER and they suspected a crack on top of the joint that is located above the knuckle and also to the inside of this same joint (facing the middle finger). I did see my family doctor a week later and another xray was taken.
Avatar n tn specifically, the two finger joints of the pinky, the top joint of the ring finger, the central joint of the middle finger and sometimes the knuckle and central joint of the index finger. My thumb's central joint can be popped but causes no pain or tightness. Pressing my hand flat on a surface and forcing it to remain there causes tightness at the wrist and I can feel what can only be described as a 'spring effect' at the knuckles when I release.
Avatar n tn I had surgery for trigger finger release on my middle finger at the end of December. It was a severe case. My doctor told me it would be a simple surgery. I have had a LOT of pain since the surgery. I still take Darvacet at night to control the pain. During the day, I can tolerate it. Is this normal? He said I just need to keep working it, which I constantly do. I have talked to other people who seem to think that I should not still be having the swelling and pain that I have.
Avatar m tn Recovery on track except my ring and pinky finger are clawed now, hurts to attempt any movement. Xray showed joint fusing, my Dr wants to give me cortisone in the pinky, I am not a fan of cortisone but, i'll give it a try. any ideas why this is happening? Since surgery I have developed a bump in the palm of the same hand.
