Avatar m tn Injections like Synvisc act as a supplement to the normal joint fluid and help in joint lubrication during the joint motion. They are usually given to delay the joint replacement surgeries. However, it does not replace the joint with the "normal" joint fluid since it is absorbed and cleared from the joint within a week (hence you have to take it every week). I would not say that it is totally useless since there have been observed benefits of this injection in some patients.
Avatar n tn To that end, anytime you do suffer an outbreak the pain in your body before and during and outbreak (joint, back, muscle, fever, exhaustion, all over aches) is 10x worse on the implant leg. The pain is crazy weird. Its deep in the bone as though you can feel the actual implant? Good news: doesn't last. It does clear up as the outbreak dissipates. Would suggest you add liquid Ly-sine to your regime for herpes meds to keep outbreaks at bay.
Avatar n tn I know how bad it can be. I had a joint replacement in my left thumb but the implant failed and wound up having 9 surgeries, countless meds, procedures, etc. I don't know if you've tried glucosamine chondroiton. It can help rebuild cartilage if you haven't gone too far. It was too late for my hands but it may be helping other spots I have. What kind of doctor are you seeing? I get some relief from a prescription gel called Voltaren.
Avatar n tn I had surgery 9-29-08 and had a Zimmer gender specific total knee replacement. Since then I have pain around the outer edge of my left foot and across the arch of my foot. Can you give me an answer as to why this has happened and what can I do for the pain?
Avatar m tn You need to run some basic tests for rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune diseases, diabetes and hypothyroidism as all can cause multiple joint pains. Also, an X-ray and MRI of the knee joint will be helpful. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn If you test positive for allergy, these would also no longer be an option for you. Joint replacement with titanium has not been reported as an allergenic.
479581 tn?1317757488 Thanks for your answer. The x-rays show the the great toe is straight with good joint space. The joint of my 2nd toe hurts alot when examined but not so much otherwise. Most of the pain is in the toe itself. I have scheduled the surgery and this time will be following the post-op instructions to the letter.
Avatar n tn However, when I showed my right knee last month this year I was told that I need full knee replacement. The surgeon recommended Otisknee replacement procedure. Is it possible that my right knee can deteriorate in onr year to have full replacemnt as opposed to partial. What are the reports on Otisknee replacement procedure. What are the pros & cons of partial replacement versus full replacement.
Avatar f tn Is anyone here experienced an aching hips after an implanted hip replacement? This discussion is related to Pain after Hip Replacement.
Avatar m tn Hi, Little amount of joint mobility noise does occur after a joint replacement as most of the times its made of metal. If you have no pain, local rise of temperature or mobility problems, you could wait for your regular appointment.
Avatar n tn Small abrasion particles from the implant may play a role in implant loosening. Plastic surfaces shed more particles than metal or ceramic ones. Wear of the Plastic Polyethylene Socket starts from the day of surgery. The plastic socket is the weakest link in the implant. The rate of plastic wear against a metal ball is about 0.1 millimeters per year, but is more rapid in very active patients.
15502615 tn?1440995053 I really waited too long as there was no hip joint left but the surgery was still a huge success as that implant lasted for 26 years f3omthe age of 35 until I was 61. I wore 4 inch heels danced did everything that I'd always done and with no pain. These days the joints are even better and when ever you decide to do it I feel you'll be very happy that you did it. There won't be anymore pain and you will have your life back.
Avatar f tn Full movement of the ankle joint is never regained even with total ankle replacement. The movement that is present, however, is far preferable to the lack of movement in the fused ankle. There is another very important aspect to ankle replacement in that it avoids the stresses that occur following ankle fusion or arthrodesis. When an ankle joint is fused, there is of course no up and down movement in the ankle.
Avatar f tn m told I will have to have joint replacement due to extensive damage to my knuckles and joints. The pain and swelling are horrible and I can not move nor feel my ring finger still. Is this normal for tendon damage being repaired? If I would of known this would be so painful I never would of gone through with surgery.
Avatar f tn Now I am having severe pain and my doctor said it looks like there is to much movement within the radius and is suggesting that he remove the implant. What does this actually mean long term?
Avatar n tn I had a left knee total replacement two years ago this coming Nov. Dec. the same year as replacement they manipulated the knee.I am in constant pain when I am sitting and go to stand I want to cry . Have had ex-rays but drs. say knee is fine. The lower part of my leg is a little red while the section right below the knee is white. Drs. say nothing is wrong , everything looks good, feel like I am crazy -they give me pain pills which don't really help.
Avatar m tn hey y'all. I really need some advice. i'm 21 years old and I have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis (affecting my right hip joint), and degenerative disc disease since I was 17, with symptoms of all 3 complications starting at the age of 14. a lot for a 21 year old, I know. here's what information i'm looking for: recently, I've been having excruciating pain in my right hip.
606078 tn?1247264553 I was wondering about maybe having a joint replacement section here at medhelp. This site has been a Godsend for me and to have a place to talk and vent not only about the Fibro and chronic pain, but to have a joint replacement discussion would be wonderful. Just a thought....
601891 tn?1238510452 I had a ANS stimulator implanted in May of 2007 cutting my pain level by 50 to 60%. I fell down stairs in 2000 and have two steel rods and cage in my back and a steel plate in my neck. After implant I couldn't believe how good I felt. In Oct of 2007 the pain relief had changed to about 20 %. Has anyone faced the same problem which I am in right now. I am trying to get a new implant or information from other individuals about their experiences.
Avatar m tn Hi there, I am following anything related to osteoarthritis in the hip. I am curious, when you say 'hip implant', do you mean a hip replacement? You said that you have had 3 hip implants? Can you tell us since when, and why so many have had to be replaced? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Also keep in mind that joint replacement technology is advancing all the time. There is a new hip implant out there now that removes less bone and reportedly allows the patient to return to higher impact activities, even running. I can't have this done because I have the old style implants and too much bone has been removed. Don't give up!
