Common Questions and Answers about Finger joint injuries

finger

Avatar f tn ve been having minor pain in the smallest joint on my fourth finger on my right hand. Because I work seven days a week during the school year, I never saw the doctor. But it started getting worse. It hurts, if my fist is closed, to bump the knuckle from above. It also hurts to stretch my fingers out (laying flat is okay, but if I try to stretch them at all, it hurts).
Avatar m tn It just started and was really harsh at first. The finger is a little red compared to my other fingers. Pressing on the joint or where it hurt reduces the pain significantly and now the pain is almost gone but there's a sort of numbness in the edge of the finger. I haven't been using the finger or anything while it happened. The pain resembles in a manner the pain after throwing something really hard and the pressure that accumulates at the edge of the hand fingers.
1189828 tn?1264598702 If the symptoms continue you would need to follow up with a finger and hand expert as there might be issues with tendon injuries which are inserted into the phalanges of your fingers. You can use ice packs for decreasing the inflammation and also take pain killers. Take care!
Avatar f tn Last year in July I hurt my ring finger on my right hand. It was due to catching a ball which struck the finger. I had pain throughout the finger, couldn't bend the joint closest to the finger nail. Xrays were taken at the ER and they suspected a crack on top of the joint that is located above the knuckle and also to the inside of this same joint (facing the middle finger). I did see my family doctor a week later and another xray was taken.
Avatar f tn I'm a 28 year old female and I have been having swelling, stiffness and pain of my right index finger knuckle for over 2 years. It started off as a little right itchy bump on my knuckle (it kind of looked like a welt) and it felt like it was on fire. I noticed it would flare up when it would rain and there was high humidity. From there it has progressed to swelling and it is usually stiff. It has been swollen for so long now that it has started to deform my joint.
1524304 tn?1326396974 I heard a really loud crack in the joint of little finger and terrible pain. It lasted only for a while but now when I touch the joint it has some mild tenderness and when I try to bend it at certain point I can feel slight pain. There wasn't any swelling, at least not noticeably. So I'm just wondering because there was an incident with stubbing toe and now I believe I cracked it then (several years ago).
Avatar n tn I jammed my left (non-dominant) pinky finger and now the top of the finger is bent down towards my palm (from the top knuckle). A little discomfort in palm and top of hand. The bent portion above the top knuckle refuses to go back into place. Could it be broken? If jammed and I splint it, will it correct itself eventually? Don't want to spend 3 hrs in the ER and end up with a splint I can do from home. Thanks.
Avatar n tn ve met aot of people with left middle finger injuries.
Avatar n tn gets real hot like, and my thumb, index finger, and middle finger get to the point of no feeling what so ever. The pain is like somebody is standing on my hand, and my inside elbow is on fire.PLEASE HELP!
903138 tn?1266767041 I think its best that you see a doctor at this point, preferably an orthopedic hand specialist. Joint injuries can be very complicated, and if they are not treated correctly there is a high risk for post-traumatic arthitis in the near future. Certainly for an active 15 year old, this is not a good thing. Proper care will help with a faster recovery, and will help to prevent needless problem in the future.
Avatar m tn My problem is that now it looks as if there is no cartilage in the joint, the tip of my finger is offset and shorter. I am always in constant pain and the finger doesn’t bend at all now. I’m going to see a different surgeon, but I’m wondering if it is even worth it? I can feel the bone on bone cracking anytime I try to bend it and I just want the pain to end.
Avatar n tn crushed thumb in car door slamming it and then pulling as did not realise thumb was jammed 5weeks now still painful on tip and upper joint with pain on bending thumb how long does an injury take to heel and do you think ive done perminent damage sue
Avatar f tn I did see a doctor (not a surgeon or specialist) and they told me that the little finger is not an important finger on your hand and a surgeon wouldn't be interested in treating me. I have noticed for the past few months that both fingers but especially my little finger is becoming painful. My little finger stays in a curled position although I wouldn't say it feels really stiff. Could this be some type of tendon problem?
Avatar f tn Trauma Direct injury to the finger is the most common cause of finger pain in children. Typically, there will be signs of bruising, a cut or a scrape that will help you to detect an injury. Other injuries can be more subtle. If a child complains of pain and you cannot see any injury, be sure to look closely. Use a magnifying glass to look for splinters or foreign objects like glass.
Avatar n tn After five weeks my ortho told me to start bending the finger by making a fist. After a week of trying the finger still won’t bend at the DIP or PIP joints at all. I called his office to ask if I have a tendon injury and he said that stiffness is normal and to keep trying to make a fist. I’m worried my flexor tendon torn because of an extreme hyper extension of the MCP joint and any effort to move it now will just cause it not to heal. So do you think it’s torn?
Avatar n tn t think i broke anything just figured it was bruised but now the swelling has went down and my ring finger knuckle seems to be sunk in and my pinky knuckle pushed back in my hand. If i got to the doctor can they still reset it even though its been a week already?
Avatar n tn Hello Dear, Knee joint effusion refers to accumulation of fluid in the joint which is usually secondary to arthritic changes, traumatic injuries, meniscus tears, ligament injuries. The treatment consists of draining the fluid from knee to help relieve the pressure in the joint, thereby helping with symptoms. Sometimes small amount of cortisone is injected in the knee to help prevent the fluid from returning. Patients with severe arthritis may eventually require surgery to treat their condition.
Avatar f tn A day or two later I had lost movement in my thumb and index finger. I still have not gained movement in them. I went to the movement disorder clinic to run some tests and it came back yesterday with mild carpal tunnel syndrome. The doctor who read the results was not the original doctor that I saw, and when I explained ot him what the prblem was, he said it was not carpal tunnel syndrome and that I seem to have two issues.
Avatar m tn b) Would drastic action such as just amputating the little finger resolve the joint pain? My thinking is if it is no longer actually a joint the pain might go away? It really is that irritating and I could live without 1 little finger quite easily. Any advice much appreciated.
1308443 tn?1302693321 My finger was injured in November the doctor told me in January that it wasn't currently broken. It was crooked and it kept getting worse so I went to the athletic director at school. He told me that it was broken at some point. He had me soak my hand in hot water and stretch it. Then I went back to him and told him that it was hurting worse. It was straight but the joint in the middle was loose. He had me splint it and it's been a week and a half since then.
Avatar m tn Though there is no specified time limit for putting in the K-wires, the earlier the better. Old injuries do not heal as good as new injuries, still older injuries (more than 2 months or so) do not heal with the desired results and hence doctors do not like to operate on the old injuries. Typically I would like to see the K-wires in, within a week. Also dislocated joints may require a reduction before the K-wires can be put in.
488675 tn?1208989954 The next day the pain was less but when i pressed on my knuckle i felt 2 bumps, normally i just feel 1 big knuckle. Also when i moved the finger of that knuckle i felt the tendon rub against something. Usually i don't feel this "rubbing". Have i damaged or slightly dislocated a tendon? Have i fractured a bone? i posted a drawing of my hand/middle knuckle: - The picture in the red circle is my interpretation of what i feel under the skin of my knuckle.
Avatar m tn The report describes diffuse degenerative changes around the ankle joint with strain injuries to the deltoid and talofibular ligaments. An initial trial of conservative managed with rest/ non-weight bearing and anti-inflammatory medications followed by physiotherapy may be considered before considering surgical options. I would suggest discussing the situation, the suggested management plan and the expected prognosis in detail with your treating orthopedician. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn All of a sudden the piece of skin in between my thumb and finger has become stiff. I don't think it would be trigger finger but i might be wrong. It won't go either. What can I do? It's hard to stretch my thumb away from the hand and spread my fingers without it hurting.

760862 tn?1243097304 Your shoulder is the most complex joint in the human body. It seems that injuries to bone were addressed at the time of your injury but not injuries to the tissues. This is what I get from your post. I have had seven shoulder surgeries since 2006 and after my MRI on this past Thursday it looks as if there is going to be a number eight. You seem to have shoulder instability related to the glenohumeral joint. This happens when there is labral damage to your shoulder.
