Finger joint capsule injury

Common Questions and Answers about Finger joint capsule injury

finger

Avatar f tn I go into the Ortho Dr on the 12th, because my Dr said it might be a torn ligament or busted joint capsule. Has anyone had this type of injury and what is the typical treatment/recovery time? Thank you, Ms.
Avatar n tn When there is a capsular injury to a joint in finger, it is best to give the RICE treatment for a few days such as rest, ice application, compression bandage (you can strap the injured finger with the neighboring finger) and elevation (keep hands elevated on a pillow at bed time). You can also take an anti-inflammatory pain killer. Once the injury settles down and there is less pain you have to start physiotherapy.
Avatar f tn any amount of swelling in a small joint such as a finger joint can cause quite a bit of discomfort. It sounds like you "jammed" the joint(s). It can take a long time to resolve. Like 6-9 months. You could try soaking it in hot water to loosen things up and try to pull and put tension on the finger to loosen up the joint. Pull the finger slowly, steadily, and gently straight out. I have found this can help loosen it up and relieve some pressure in the joint.
Avatar f tn Last year in July I hurt my ring finger on my right hand. It was due to catching a ball which struck the finger. I had pain throughout the finger, couldn't bend the joint closest to the finger nail. Xrays were taken at the ER and they suspected a crack on top of the joint that is located above the knuckle and also to the inside of this same joint (facing the middle finger). I did see my family doctor a week later and another xray was taken.

If the injury is 24 hours old apply ice wrapped in cotton cloth and if it is older, dip hand in warm water. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor. Take care!
Avatar n tn I have noticed something.. the injury occured in the middle joint, joint that is above the knuckle. However on the inside of this joint (facing the middle finger) it looks bulged or rounded. I traced my finger over it and it is definitely rounded and very hard. I know the joints are naturally a bit roundish on the outside but this is large compared to the ring finger on my right hand. Also looking at it you can see the bulging. I was wondering if this is bone or a bone I was feeling?
Avatar m tn I was given an MRI about three weeks after dislocation and diagnosed with a small hill-Sachs lesion, strains of the joint capsule, and tendonitis. I am now able to move my arm in most directions, however when I flex my bicep my arm has a strong tremor. My grip has been tested and deemed normal and nobody has given me any theory as to what the dent is, or the tremor. While I am worried about both I am hopeful that the community can answer the longer standing issue.
Avatar f tn Followed up with family doctor in a week, another xray, he said yes cracked around middle joint (side of the middle joint that faces towards middle finger). However the next day he phoned and said no its not broken. About a month later went to physiotherapy which included ultrasound treatment and compressions stocking. This lasted about three to four months. In Spring of this year I had no improvement.
Avatar f tn An x-ray showed no fractures but I was referred for an MRI about four weeks later due to continued pain and difficulty with lifting objects and weight-bearing activities. Results of the MRI indicated a “Focal full-thickness tear in the dorsal intercarpal joint capsule measuring approximately 0.5 x 0.3 cm with associated soft tissue edema and joint fluid extravasating into the adjacent dorsal soft tissue. 2. No acute fractures.
Avatar m tn My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint. The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure. I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
Avatar m tn I am having burning sensation on the side of my index finger between the middle joint and top joint. There has not been any injury, no blisters, skin breakage, tingling or discoloration. The burning seems to be closer to the middle joint and more tender if I put any pressure on the joint. I had surgery many years ago for carpal tunnel but this doesnt feel anything like that. It is in only one finger and always on the side. I have tried using an anti imflamatory cream with no relief.
Avatar n tn It appears that you have injured the capsule of the joint between the two parts of a finger. The capsule is protective of the movements and contains synovial fluid which provides lubrication to the joints and helps them glide over each other. This fluid is probably stretching some part of the capsule of the ligament and causing the swelling.
Avatar n tn X-rays revealed at least one small fracture (probably along the side, not sure). The injury only seems to affect the middle PIP joint. It hurts when I press on the sides and bottom of the joint. The tendon along the top appears undamaged. Most of the swelling subsided 2-3 weeks after the injury. The biggest problem is that the joint will only bend about halfway through it's normal range of motion. It bends fairly smoothly and painlessly until it hits the end.
Avatar m tn It is again in the PIP pinky joint of the right hand. I know there is joint injury, and maybe sheath damage. Would you recommend any OTC anti-calais medicine. I usually heal up pretty quick due to alot of exercise routines. But I have broken a mandible before so I know the feeling when some thing is wrong. Thanks Dr. Mathur, I hope you got something that could help.
Avatar f tn I dislocated my pinky finger 5 weeks ago. From joint to tip was perpendicular to bottom of finger. Was so horrified, I pulled up and put it back in place and iced it, but hurt so badly I went to the ER. X-ray showed no break and they said I did a really good job (straight). Taped it to a splint and told me to ice every 2 hours for 20 minutes and wear splint for 2 days.
Avatar m tn I took serratiopeptidase + diclofenac potassium capsule by doctors advice. I took rest for 2 weeks but when I started playing it started again. Please advice.
Avatar f tn I dislocated my PIP joint on my ring finger 2 weeks ago. It was reduced at the hospital and I went to the hand clinic 24 hours later. They said it was doing ok and I didn't need to go back unless there was a problem with it. I was told to keep it buddy strapped for 2 weeks. I now have the buddy strapping off. The finger isn't that painful unless I bump the joint accidentally. I'm a little concerned as I can't fully straighten it or bend it more than halfway.
1336836 tn?1275740921 What could cause my index finger to be numb and tingle when touching the joint of the finger?
1157646 tn?1343967128 Ok, so im 19 and I did a pretty serious injury to the little finger on my right hand 16 months ago. Since then the pain hasnt really ever gone away and the dr has said it looks very much like im getting the early stages of arthritis in the joints in my finger. He advised me to just try over the counter paracetamol to see if that helps control the pain. The paracetamol really doesnt help and I cant get back into the dr until march 12th.
Avatar f tn material if you will. ive had many stiches and some were placed on my middle finger on the middle knuckle and there was a small peice of stuture left in there. now that part of my finger, on top, has a puss pocket that pops all the time and stings a bit but the worst part is that my finger looks jammed. It looks like there is a lot of swelling just in the middle joint but there is no bruising just slight redness. Non of my other fingers are like that.
Avatar n tn 16 days after ***** accidently hit the small hard lump as well as slightly overflexing joint. Now slight pain upon mornings initial flexions of the joint. As day goes on feels better as I use it. Come mornining, pain and stiffness again until its used. The area is not red, hot. Can fully flex and straighten. Would say very slightly swollen compared to other hand. I'm thinking hot/cold compresses?
Avatar m tn MCP is fine, PIP has less than 90% for sure and DIP seems okay. My finger is still extremely swollen at the PIP joint and at the area of the break due to superficial scar tissue and possibly scar tissue near the tendons. Can anyone please advise their experiences and what the best road to take? I'm currently going to a hand therapist once a week and I'm debating on finding another therapist as well. Thank you all, looking forward to your replies.
Avatar f tn Trauma Direct injury to the finger is the most common cause of finger pain in children. Typically, there will be signs of bruising, a cut or a scrape that will help you to detect an injury. Other injuries can be more subtle. If a child complains of pain and you cannot see any injury, be sure to look closely. Use a magnifying glass to look for splinters or foreign objects like glass.
