Avatar f tn I wanted him seen ASAP because of the broken rear leg. The x-rays showed that the injury was about a month old and that it was already healed. It wasn't just a little break but the femur was actually snapped off. In order to fix it, they'd have to do a surgery that costs over $1500. Or... amputation (around $450- including pain meds). My question is--- do we HAVE to do anything? When we found him he wouldn't walk on the leg and I thought it was a new injury.
Avatar n tn Several years ago I was indirectly struck by lightning on my finger. Ever since I have had severe nerve pain. Cold is simply unbearable let alone if I hit my finger on anything. I have been to several doctors and NO one can help me. I have even attempted accupuncture to no avail. I am currenty taking Lyrica, which helps a little, but not much. I have tried topicals as well. I am to the point where I just want my finger amputated. The pain is just too much!! Any suggestions?
280418 tn?1306325910 How is your husbands' finger? I also had a glomus tumor on my left ring finger just under the nail bed. I had it removed by surgery and it has now grown back. I was told that this tumor is very had to get completely since it is made up of a bundle of nerves and that there was a possibility that is could grow back. It is now more painful than ever. I bumped it just this weekend on a drawer handle and almost lost it.
572547 tn?1218924130 one more thing if what is going on is RSD Amputation would not work to get rid of your pain it is a nerve problem and the nerves would still be there and create a phantom pain and the RSD would start at the residual limp.
Avatar f tn Long term high blood sugars in people with diabetes can results in problems with circulation in feet and legs. This means that any injury may not heal properly and develop into very serious infection. In such case, I am assuming this is what you have, and if conventional treatment is not working, then amputation will be done. To speed healing and prevent further complications, suggest you work with a diabetes educator to get better blood sugar control.
Avatar f tn My wife has severe spasticity in her left arm and left leg (mostly in the hand and foot). This is accompanied by severe pain in her neck/back and severe pain throughout left side when attempting to move. She is a soldier with the US Army and they have been unable to find a cause for the condition. The most recent MRI shows "moderate central canal stenosis athe the C5-C6 level without significant neural foraminal narrowing.
572547 tn?1218924130 First, I understand your frustration. Before I found out what my first trigger finger was, I was fully prepared to request amputation because it was making my entire hand useless. I've had 3 surgeries over the past 2 years, freeing 4 fingers and removing a ganglion cyst from one. Did your surgeon send you to physical therapy? You need to keep moving your hands and fingers, despite the pain. Scar tissue (adhesions) starts to form a couple of months out from the surgery.
Avatar f tn Well,. nerve entrapment at C8 causes numbness or loss of function near the proximal phalanx of the little finger. Nerve compression in the lower cervical area can have many etiologies. Degenerative arthritis for one. Or it can result from a physical injury many years ago. A 3T MRI, rather than a CT is the preferred means of differential diagnosis. Mecobalamin shouldn't do much one way or the other.
Avatar f tn Having toe amputation in two weeks. Anyone know about balance,recoverytime,walking,reehab...Anything. I'M having no success finding info.
Avatar m tn Now, she is having problems with nerve damage and the vet is considering amputation, with the alterntive being euthanasia. It has been 3 weeks since the injury and she has spent about 12 days at the vet. I know that cats can live comfortably with 3 legs, but I am worried that I am putting her through too much. I don't want to be selfish and keep her alive when it is not the best for her. Any thoughts would be welcome.
Avatar f tn Younger brother, father, and an uncle all had blood clots that caused amputation of legs. My husband is 38, and this was his first issue with them. Why was his blood clots so extreme?
Avatar f tn It sounds like you need to get those results reviewed by a second vet, or better yet .. get a complete second opinion. Amputation is a very last resort. Cats do not do well with Amputation, but dogs do. Get a second opinion. You have a right to have those xrays an mri films looked at by someone else. If her CNS is showing some abnormalities then all the homeopathic and scientific medicine is not going to help. I think you know that.
Avatar f tn I am looking to find a t-shirt that will fit my dog following a front leg amputation. The sites I've found don't have sizes large enough for my dog, (a big Chesapeake, just under 100 lbs). Any ideas?
Avatar f tn Trauma Direct injury to the finger is the most common cause of finger pain in children. Typically, there will be signs of bruising, a cut or a scrape that will help you to detect an injury. Other injuries can be more subtle. If a child complains of pain and you cannot see any injury, be sure to look closely. Use a magnifying glass to look for splinters or foreign objects like glass.
Avatar m tn So, I've been having some annoying pain in my right ring finger on the under side. I want to say it feels like a really bad paper cut or being poked with a ton of little needles. I don't know if I did anything to it, it tends to hurt more with use, but only on the underside.
Avatar m tn The accident happened at my place of work. From the time of the injury and even after the surgery, my little finger and half the third finger tingled, on and off, but not real bad. About a month after the surgery, during therapy, the tingling got worst and never went away. The doctor that did the surgery ordered a nerve test, the shocks and needles. The neurologist report said I had an entrapment in my elbow and recommended consulting with a neurosurgeon.
Avatar n tn Hello! I hope you get a reply for I am going through the same thing with my 70+ yr old Dad! Told he won't live through amputation so he said don't bother but the gangrene in one area is spreading so quickly! Other areas are dry but I am thinking this is wet! It is getting worse everyday! He has dry gangrene that hasn't changed at all! Hospice is involved now....the Hospice nurse hasn't given you any idea? I am told that sepsis is a possibility....
Avatar n tn I would say it would be a good idea to check it out, you may need a tetanus shot and it sounds like it is infected, put some OTC anti biotic cream on a band aid on it till you can get it checked out, Good Luck
Avatar m tn I injured my right index fingertip at work several months ago and am still not able to use it due to burning pain. X-ray showed no bone damage, but can feel a lump where my finger got pinched. I think I injured the nerve. What are my treatment options.
Avatar f tn Its too bulky for what I do for work and I really have no choice but to work (single parent) I do put it back on when I get off, which i know is defeating the purpose. I go into the Ortho Dr on the 12th, because my Dr said it might be a torn ligament or busted joint capsule. Has anyone had this type of injury and what is the typical treatment/recovery time? Thank you, Ms.
Avatar f tn It has been three months since the injury and the pain is still the same. It hurts when I hold my finger and move it side to side and up and down and also when pressure is applied. It also hurts between the knuckle and the beginniing part of my finger when pressure is applied. Also it hurts on my knuckle when pressure is applied. Should I get it looked again right away? Both my middle knuckle and the knuckle on my pointer finger still looks enlarged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Last year in July I hurt my ring finger on my right hand. It was due to catching a ball which struck the finger. I had pain throughout the finger, couldn't bend the joint closest to the finger nail. Xrays were taken at the ER and they suspected a crack on top of the joint that is located above the knuckle and also to the inside of this same joint (facing the middle finger). I did see my family doctor a week later and another xray was taken.
Avatar n tn When there is a capsular injury to a joint in finger, it is best to give the RICE treatment for a few days such as rest, ice application, compression bandage (you can strap the injured finger with the neighboring finger) and elevation (keep hands elevated on a pillow at bed time). You can also take an anti-inflammatory pain killer. Once the injury settles down and there is less pain you have to start physiotherapy.
Avatar f tn I work on an assembly line in a plant so I use my hands constantly....my hands don't really hurt more than would be expected, but they are getting covered in big dark ugly bruises...I haven't hit them on anything, so I was wondering if just the repetition can cause bruising? Should I get looked at? I don't really like doctors or their prices, so I would rather not unless it is absolutely necessary...but the bruising has my husband worried...
