1518151 tn?1320448947 I have absolutely no experience with this type of cancer, but if it was me I would opt for the surgery, and quickly, at least you would be giving her a chance. If amputation is necessary she might adjust a lot better than you think. I wish you luck.
572547 tn?1218924130 First, I understand your frustration. Before I found out what my first trigger finger was, I was fully prepared to request amputation because it was making my entire hand useless. I've had 3 surgeries over the past 2 years, freeing 4 fingers and removing a ganglion cyst from one. Did your surgeon send you to physical therapy? You need to keep moving your hands and fingers, despite the pain. Scar tissue (adhesions) starts to form a couple of months out from the surgery.
Avatar n tn Several years ago I was indirectly struck by lightning on my finger. Ever since I have had severe nerve pain. Cold is simply unbearable let alone if I hit my finger on anything. I have been to several doctors and NO one can help me. I have even attempted accupuncture to no avail. I am currenty taking Lyrica, which helps a little, but not much. I have tried topicals as well. I am to the point where I just want my finger amputated. The pain is just too much!! Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn If a variety of tests come back ok, then the best medical option is amputation. The tests will try to discover if the cancer has already spread, if her blood work shows no underlying health issues and if her remaining 3 legs are strong enough to support her. The vet oncologist suggests that if everything comes back ok, then amputation has a 70 to 80% chance of giving her another 2 to 3 years.
Avatar f tn Having toe amputation in two weeks. Anyone know about balance,recoverytime,walking,reehab...Anything. I'M having no success finding info.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with herpes whitlow in my right ring finger...it is a very insidius disease as it is prone to secondary infections and is very costly due to loss of work and topical and oral treatments.Today I start suppression therapy on Valtrex and Zovirax cream if needed. In the last two years I've had at least ten outbreaks and it is really getting me down. Is there any new treatments being researched for this disease?
280418 tn?1306325910 How is your husbands' finger? I also had a glomus tumor on my left ring finger just under the nail bed. I had it removed by surgery and it has now grown back. I was told that this tumor is very had to get completely since it is made up of a bundle of nerves and that there was a possibility that is could grow back. It is now more painful than ever. I bumped it just this weekend on a drawer handle and almost lost it.
Avatar n tn Hello! I hope you get a reply for I am going through the same thing with my 70+ yr old Dad! Told he won't live through amputation so he said don't bother but the gangrene in one area is spreading so quickly! Other areas are dry but I am thinking this is wet! It is getting worse everyday! He has dry gangrene that hasn't changed at all! Hospice is involved now....the Hospice nurse hasn't given you any idea? I am told that sepsis is a possibility....

Avatar f tn I am looking to find a t-shirt that will fit my dog following a front leg amputation. The sites I've found don't have sizes large enough for my dog, (a big Chesapeake, just under 100 lbs). Any ideas?
Avatar n tn I would say it would be a good idea to check it out, you may need a tetanus shot and it sounds like it is infected, put some OTC anti biotic cream on a band aid on it till you can get it checked out, Good Luck
Avatar f tn Hi, my chinchilla, Screetch, had an emergency amputation of his right hind leg approximately one week ago. He remained in vet care until three days after the surgery. He came home with antibiotics and needing to be force fed. My question is two fold. First, will i need to supplement "good" bacteria, to replace those destroyed by the antibiotics?
Avatar f tn I was the bottom. I took a finger test and came negative today. The brochure I have says there are numerous types of hiv. Does the finger prick cover all these?...oh yeah I had syphilis last year..does that change anything?
Avatar f tn We rescued a german shephard puppy that needed a right front leg amputation from the knee down. That was three months ago on Aug 17th. He is now 7 months old and the wound is still not healed. About 6 days after surgery the wound burst open, had aslight infection. We cleaned it up got him on atibiotics and the wound was left open to drain. The wound then ulcerated to pretty good size. It has slowly since granulated some but it's still wide open. The outside edges of skin are white and hard.
Avatar f tn Our dog has an amputation scheduled for her front right leg, due to bone cancer. She is 9 years old, but apart from the bum leg, she is very healthy and active, (the cancer has not affected her behavior, energy, or appetite- just her mobility with the one leg). My neighbor was shocked when I told her we have an amputation scheduled, (since my dog is older). Also the diagnosing Vet told me he would not recommend amputation of a front leg on a large dog.
Avatar f tn I am so sad i have been crying for over 5 days my 10 year old cat was diagnosed with cancer almost 3 years ago he was fine until last november he got a tumor on his rear toe got a biopsy turns out is also another form of cancer the only option is amputation which i will not do i cant make him go through all the pain knowing he already has other tumors from the first diagnosis 3 years ago so we've been changing his bandages and cleaning his wound every week but it hasnt healed he keeps biting
Avatar m tn Went to see an oral surgeon 3 months ago about a problem that had nothing to do with the root amputation he did on a tooth in my mouth that was part of a fixed bridge. He said I had an infection and he suggested that a root amputation be performed. He removed bone and gum tissue an amputated the root. 3 months later it still aches in the area he worked on. Went back to see him he took new x-rays saw no infection and said he didn't know why it is still aching.
Avatar f tn my gf was diagnosed today with a skin cancer under the pinky finer , under the nail. it has eat away at the bone and she is facing partial amputation....
Avatar n tn Please don't type in all Caps, that is akin to shouting on the Internet. You should get a second opinion from another doctor at another hospital. Its highly unusual to diagnose foot amputation one day after toes were amputated. Something is not right with this surgeon's diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Thank you for responding. but root amputation! I'm not gona lie that sounds scary! would you explain that a bit? Is it done out side of the mouth?
Avatar f tn Three days ago his bone with tumour (femur) fractured and now we are left with two options either rod insertion or amputation. With rod, chemotherapy wont be possible until the muscle heals properly. Along with that he has persistent high BP 165/110 high pulse 118 . On ECHO he has Little percardial effusion + hypokinesia with only 35% EJECTION FRACTION. We are only left with the option of amputation as the rod insertion will spread it further to other organs . Suggest me what should we do?
Avatar f tn It sounds like you need to get those results reviewed by a second vet, or better yet .. get a complete second opinion. Amputation is a very last resort. Cats do not do well with Amputation, but dogs do. Get a second opinion. You have a right to have those xrays an mri films looked at by someone else. If her CNS is showing some abnormalities then all the homeopathic and scientific medicine is not going to help. I think you know that.
Avatar f tn Not to go through with the amputation when there is already gangrene will likely end in an unpleasant and painful death. However, there is a bigger issue. The loss of circulation that leads to gangrene that leads to amputation, usually affects more than 1 limbs, so your other leg is also potentially at risk. The most important thing will be to have good control of your diabetes. By taking insulin and controlling your diet. Not an easy place to be in. I wish you well.
