Avatar n tn If redo root canal or periapical surgery is not feasible, which means one root is hopeless, root amputation is the treatment of choice. The procedure is much easier than periapical surgery, and post op pain is minimal.
572547 tn?1218924130 First, I understand your frustration. Before I found out what my first trigger finger was, I was fully prepared to request amputation because it was making my entire hand useless. I've had 3 surgeries over the past 2 years, freeing 4 fingers and removing a ganglion cyst from one. Did your surgeon send you to physical therapy? You need to keep moving your hands and fingers, despite the pain. Scar tissue (adhesions) starts to form a couple of months out from the surgery.
Avatar n tn Several years ago I was indirectly struck by lightning on my finger. Ever since I have had severe nerve pain. Cold is simply unbearable let alone if I hit my finger on anything. I have been to several doctors and NO one can help me. I have even attempted accupuncture to no avail. I am currenty taking Lyrica, which helps a little, but not much. I have tried topicals as well. I am to the point where I just want my finger amputated. The pain is just too much!! Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn (can someone explain it and does anyone know if amputation is recommended in this case? ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Diagnosis: Upper tibia, side not specified, excision: -Osteoblastic osteosarcoma, high grade.see note.
Avatar f tn Hyperbaric oxygen (in a chamber) is available at few hospitals, but has been used as a treatment to prevent amputation. Try this route immediately. Nicotine patches are also being experimentally used. That being said, for them to suggest amputation there is a life-threatening problem. If the infection proceeds there may be no choice but to amputate the leg.
Avatar m tn Now, she is having problems with nerve damage and the vet is considering amputation, with the alterntive being euthanasia. It has been 3 weeks since the injury and she has spent about 12 days at the vet. I know that cats can live comfortably with 3 legs, but I am worried that I am putting her through too much. I don't want to be selfish and keep her alive when it is not the best for her. Any thoughts would be welcome.
Avatar f tn Having toe amputation in two weeks. Anyone know about balance,recoverytime,walking,reehab...Anything. I'M having no success finding info.
Avatar n tn How far advanced is the cancer and do you know what kind it is? What treatment, if any, does your vet recommend? It's so very sad, but Goldens have developed a terrible reputation for getting cancer. So much of your decision depends on early detection and treatment, and how much you can afford to treat it. It may be kinder to treat his pain and keep him comfortable for as long as possible rather than put him through the misery of chemo and radiation.
Avatar f tn She has been hospitalised twice with septicemia and the drug combinations and anti fungal drugs are too numerous too mention A cut caused by climbing led to osteomyelitlis of her middle finger on her right hand, eventually leading to amputation. She is currently hospitalised with a chronic foot infection, having severed her flexor (?) tendon a year ago. Two repair attempts failed and she has had ongoing infections in that foot for the last 9 months.
Avatar m tn My 75 year old father, a chronic Type I diabetic for over 50 years, has his one leg amputated due to foot gangerene. He now has severe pain in the other leg. Short of another amputation, is there any way to reduce his pain in the leg?
Avatar f tn The electromyography indicated mild denervation, but did not suggest an underlying cause. The course of treatment was to try to keep her from jumping, running, going up and down stairs, etc. Her personality has totally changed since this happened. She used to be a very social cat, always stayed near me and loved to play with my other cats. She now spends all her time in a spare bedroom under the bed and doesn’t socialize at all anymore.
10197242 tn?1408455226 I would be interested in any comments those of you who have experienced your older dog going through front leg amputation might have. Maggie is a gordon setter, age 12-1/2 who had anal gland cancer 3 yrs ago - it was caught early, never spread, never needed treatment and no repercussions - 4 mos.
280418 tn?1306325910 How is your husbands' finger? I also had a glomus tumor on my left ring finger just under the nail bed. I had it removed by surgery and it has now grown back. I was told that this tumor is very had to get completely since it is made up of a bundle of nerves and that there was a possibility that is could grow back. It is now more painful than ever. I bumped it just this weekend on a drawer handle and almost lost it.
Avatar n tn Hello! I hope you get a reply for I am going through the same thing with my 70+ yr old Dad! Told he won't live through amputation so he said don't bother but the gangrene in one area is spreading so quickly! Other areas are dry but I am thinking this is wet! It is getting worse everyday! He has dry gangrene that hasn't changed at all! Hospice is involved now....the Hospice nurse hasn't given you any idea? I am told that sepsis is a possibility....
Avatar f tn If the infection goes into the bone the situation may only be resolved by amputation. There is a problem with antibiotics because oral antibiotics do not reach high enough concentrations in the toe. Treatment is usually intravenously administered vacomyacin, although the Journal of Infectious diseases January 2011 suggests oral Cipro as an alternative. If osteomyelitis of the bone in the toe progresses to the metatarsals it can mean foot amputation.

Avatar f tn I am looking to find a t-shirt that will fit my dog following a front leg amputation. The sites I've found don't have sizes large enough for my dog, (a big Chesapeake, just under 100 lbs). Any ideas?
Avatar n tn I would say it would be a good idea to check it out, you may need a tetanus shot and it sounds like it is infected, put some OTC anti biotic cream on a band aid on it till you can get it checked out, Good Luck
Avatar f tn Hi, my chinchilla, Screetch, had an emergency amputation of his right hind leg approximately one week ago. He remained in vet care until three days after the surgery. He came home with antibiotics and needing to be force fed. My question is two fold. First, will i need to supplement "good" bacteria, to replace those destroyed by the antibiotics?
