Avatar f tn She has been hospitalised twice with septicemia and the drug combinations and anti fungal drugs are too numerous too mention A cut caused by climbing led to osteomyelitlis of her middle finger on her right hand, eventually leading to amputation. She is currently hospitalised with a chronic foot infection, having severed her flexor (?) tendon a year ago. Two repair attempts failed and she has had ongoing infections in that foot for the last 9 months.
Avatar f tn She has a glucose test two weeks ago, and they said that her levels are high but that's not what is concerning them right now. The blood work showed high liver levels. Tomorrow she's going for more tests. In the past they thought she may have RSD, and that if her circulation didn't get better, she may run the risk of foot amputation. She wears a device to stimulate circulation.
572547 tn?1218924130 First, I understand your frustration. Before I found out what my first trigger finger was, I was fully prepared to request amputation because it was making my entire hand useless. I've had 3 surgeries over the past 2 years, freeing 4 fingers and removing a ganglion cyst from one. Did your surgeon send you to physical therapy? You need to keep moving your hands and fingers, despite the pain. Scar tissue (adhesions) starts to form a couple of months out from the surgery.
Avatar n tn Several years ago I was indirectly struck by lightning on my finger. Ever since I have had severe nerve pain. Cold is simply unbearable let alone if I hit my finger on anything. I have been to several doctors and NO one can help me. I have even attempted accupuncture to no avail. I am currenty taking Lyrica, which helps a little, but not much. I have tried topicals as well. I am to the point where I just want my finger amputated. The pain is just too much!! Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Sprains take awhile to heal, Best to keep it splinted tape it to the next finger for a temp and buy a splint at the drug store. Ibroprofen and ice may help relieve the swelling and inflamation. I believe 2-3 weeks is ample time- however if you can not bend it - its probably broken- you will need to see a doctor, get xrays and have them repair it.
Avatar f tn Having toe amputation in two weeks. Anyone know about balance,recoverytime,walking,reehab...Anything. I'M having no success finding info.
Avatar m tn I broke my pinkie finger in Nov. it was xrayed twice. 2 wks apart. The break appeared on the second xray. My dr had me buddy wrap it. The break is at the second joint right under the knuckle. It is still swollen. It is also red and very painful. If i bump it at all it is unbearable. I know I will need to go back to the dr but I would like to have some idea of what may be wrong in order to ask the right question. Can anyone here help?
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with herpes whitlow in my right ring finger...it is a very insidius disease as it is prone to secondary infections and is very costly due to loss of work and topical and oral treatments.Today I start suppression therapy on Valtrex and Zovirax cream if needed. In the last two years I've had at least ten outbreaks and it is really getting me down. Is there any new treatments being researched for this disease?
Avatar f tn Three weeks ago, after falling on broken glass, I underwent surgery to repair my completely lacerated ulnar nerve, flexor tendon, artery and some blood vessels at the site of my palm. Three weeks after surgery, whilst the pain in my incision has subsided, particularly after having my stitches removed, I am experiencing tingling, pins and needles, burning and shooting pains in my little finger which is worse at night and interferes with sleeping.
280418 tn?1306325910 How is your husbands' finger? I also had a glomus tumor on my left ring finger just under the nail bed. I had it removed by surgery and it has now grown back. I was told that this tumor is very had to get completely since it is made up of a bundle of nerves and that there was a possibility that is could grow back. It is now more painful than ever. I bumped it just this weekend on a drawer handle and almost lost it.
Avatar n tn Hello! I hope you get a reply for I am going through the same thing with my 70+ yr old Dad! Told he won't live through amputation so he said don't bother but the gangrene in one area is spreading so quickly! Other areas are dry but I am thinking this is wet! It is getting worse everyday! He has dry gangrene that hasn't changed at all! Hospice is involved now....the Hospice nurse hasn't given you any idea? I am told that sepsis is a possibility....

Avatar f tn I am looking to find a t-shirt that will fit my dog following a front leg amputation. The sites I've found don't have sizes large enough for my dog, (a big Chesapeake, just under 100 lbs). Any ideas?
Avatar n tn I recently sustained a cut to my left index finger. The laceration is nearly 6 cm long, stops less than 1 mm from the bone, is nearly perpendicular to the finger, faces towards the thumb, and begins just above the palm area. I have mild numbness in and around the injury site and slight tingling towards the tip of the affected finger. I've already had the finger stitched up (8 stitches) and am awaiting a consult with an orthopedic surgeon.
Avatar n tn I would say it would be a good idea to check it out, you may need a tetanus shot and it sounds like it is infected, put some OTC anti biotic cream on a band aid on it till you can get it checked out, Good Luck
Avatar f tn Hi, my chinchilla, Screetch, had an emergency amputation of his right hind leg approximately one week ago. He remained in vet care until three days after the surgery. He came home with antibiotics and needing to be force fed. My question is two fold. First, will i need to supplement "good" bacteria, to replace those destroyed by the antibiotics?
Avatar n tn I have a soreness in my left shoulder blade, left arm pain, specific area of pain on top of elbow, pain throughout my entire arm and tingling in arm, hand, thumb, index finger and middle finger.
Avatar f tn We rescued a german shephard puppy that needed a right front leg amputation from the knee down. That was three months ago on Aug 17th. He is now 7 months old and the wound is still not healed. About 6 days after surgery the wound burst open, had aslight infection. We cleaned it up got him on atibiotics and the wound was left open to drain. The wound then ulcerated to pretty good size. It has slowly since granulated some but it's still wide open. The outside edges of skin are white and hard.
Avatar f tn I know of no medication that would aid in the repair or recovery of cut or injured nerves ... time is a good healer and the best that I know. Regards ....
Avatar f tn I had surgery to repair tendon in ring finger two weeks ago. First off the incisions made were way more than I expected, it went from middle of my palm to til bout 1/2 inch from tip of finger on both top and bottom, Dr said he had to pt two pins in my finger. Now I'm told I will have to have joint replacement due to extensive damage to my knuckles and joints. The pain and swelling are horrible and I can not move nor feel my ring finger still. Is this normal for tendon damage being repaired?
Avatar f tn Our dog has an amputation scheduled for her front right leg, due to bone cancer. She is 9 years old, but apart from the bum leg, she is very healthy and active, (the cancer has not affected her behavior, energy, or appetite- just her mobility with the one leg). My neighbor was shocked when I told her we have an amputation scheduled, (since my dog is older). Also the diagnosing Vet told me he would not recommend amputation of a front leg on a large dog.
Avatar n tn Almost all my finger tips especially on the right hand and the index finger are very dry, rough, and cracky. Then when when the are wet they get wrinkly. I have been applying petroleum jelly, covered with cotton liner and latex gloves for a few days but I don't see any big improvement. I have AmLactin moisturizing lotion, would that be better to use and how should I use it to make it work? Thank you for your help. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn Went to see an oral surgeon 3 months ago about a problem that had nothing to do with the root amputation he did on a tooth in my mouth that was part of a fixed bridge. He said I had an infection and he suggested that a root amputation be performed. He removed bone and gum tissue an amputated the root. 3 months later it still aches in the area he worked on. Went back to see him he took new x-rays saw no infection and said he didn't know why it is still aching.
