470168 tn?1237471245 I have a query regarding provision of Occupational Therapy in the USA. I want to compare it with provision in the UK. In the UK provision is divided between Health and Education. Education do not have any Occupational Therapist Department as they say "it is not essential to learning". As any mother with an autistic child with sensory differences knows sensory stuff has a huge impact and does make it hard for them to access learning in a school environment.
1672915 tn?1335220598 My case was pretty extreme but I did Occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy daily. Occupational therapy was very helpful for me, but I was learning how to live in a wheelchair. I did do a lot of work on my arms and my shoulders and it was helpful very quickly.
572547 tn?1218924130 hi please could some1 help me asap ive had the injections for trigger finger and on the 9th of april this year i had the operation ((worst mistake of my life)) now i have a swollen hand my fingers r swollen and im in alot of pain i get bad cramp in my fingers my partner has to massage my hand and help me with alot of things as my hand feels so weak i cant even write a line on a piece of paper without stopping for a break sometimes i cant move my fingers n i get pain from my hand upto my elbow
572547 tn?1218924130 First, I understand your frustration. Before I found out what my first trigger finger was, I was fully prepared to request amputation because it was making my entire hand useless. I've had 3 surgeries over the past 2 years, freeing 4 fingers and removing a ganglion cyst from one. Did your surgeon send you to physical therapy? You need to keep moving your hands and fingers, despite the pain. Scar tissue (adhesions) starts to form a couple of months out from the surgery.
Avatar f tn Yep, I'd go to an orthopedic doc as well. And an neurologist. Hand specialists seem like they'd know but I'd get different specialties to give you input. They say nerve damage. https://www.healthline.com/health/ulnar-nerve-dysfunction#treatment This talks about a nerve in the hand called the ulnar nerve. Is that what they are referring to? Don't forget that physical therapy can be very helpful as well as occupational therapy to work around any limitations.

Avatar n tn Several years ago I was indirectly struck by lightning on my finger. Ever since I have had severe nerve pain. Cold is simply unbearable let alone if I hit my finger on anything. I have been to several doctors and NO one can help me. I have even attempted accupuncture to no avail. I am currenty taking Lyrica, which helps a little, but not much. I have tried topicals as well. I am to the point where I just want my finger amputated. The pain is just too much!! Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn He has sensory integration disorder and does occupational therapy. I asked his occupational therapist about it and she said it was a sensory thing. He says it is itching which we don't know exactly what it means if it is tingling or really itching. So he moves his fingers and hands around because of it. He does it when he is watching tv too. I don't know if that helps but he may have some sensory things going on.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with herpes whitlow in my right ring finger...it is a very insidius disease as it is prone to secondary infections and is very costly due to loss of work and topical and oral treatments.Today I start suppression therapy on Valtrex and Zovirax cream if needed. In the last two years I've had at least ten outbreaks and it is really getting me down. Avatar m tn My Hiv + patient( End Stage of AIDS, non complaint with medications), had in her hand a alcohol swab that had been applied to her bleeding finger after obtaining a blood sugar level. The alcohol swab must have been in her finger for 30 seconds before she handed it to me (few drops of blood in the middle) , I picked up from her hands without gloves.
Avatar n tn t a problem you need to have, even with the huge cuts and red tape in the program put in there by the current Administration. You need occupational therapy, and you need to find a way to get it. I suggest you call your local health agency and get advice on what's available to you where you live for those who have problems affording insurance. Not having insurance also doesn't preclude you from getting care. It just means you have to pay for it.
1308443 tn?1302693321 I started occupational therapy because my pinky finger won't straighten out. The middle joint is super swollen. It seems to be getting worse. My mom is not wanting to take me back because they seem to be guessing a lot. Nothing is for sure. They think I strained te ligaments on the sides of my pinky. They put me in a splint and sent me home. The pain is worse and so is the swelling. The bottom of my finger is straighter but the top is curving more. Has anyone else had this problem?
Avatar m tn Heat therapy is achieved by ultrasound, microwaves, warm wax, or warm moist compresses; Cold therapy can be done with ice packs at home; Occupational therapy – modifies ways of using body to reduce stress on your joints. The occupational therapist helps develop strategies for coping with daily life by adapting to your environment and using different assistive devices. Do discuss this with your mother’s doctor. Take care!
Avatar m tn Aside from the most nasty scar in the world, I have so much stiffness in my pinky finger at the knuckle and swelling in the entire finger. How long should the stiffness and swelling last? Will it be permanent? I started occupational therapy and they seem to think it will get better but it will take months not weeks. I am skeptical about occupational therapy since just about everything they're doing, I could do at home for free.
Avatar f tn The child can get lots of help with Occupational Therapy and by people at home, and if he has the capacity, he can learn to help himself later on. If this is the case, a good book is called "The Out of Sync Child"- ask the therapist about it.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
393986 tn?1303825975 There should be rehabilitation and occupational therapy for him in an intensive way before he is sent home. It may even be that he goes to a rehab unit at the hospital for a longer stay before he is released. In the hospital there should also be a social work staff - I would contact them aand make sure that someone is assigned to his case to help through all the logistical needs. That is what they are there for. Now for you, young lady- please try to take time every day for Ada.

Avatar f tn You must consult a good physiotherapist and build up these exercises in your routine life. Occupational therapy and counseling will help you become more independent. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have recently had an Occupational Therapy Assessment, to recieve one of these you just need to contact your local council and ask for their contact details. A referral from your doctor or consultant is not needed, although they can do so if you wish. An occupational therapist will come to your home and see if there is anything they can offer you to help you be more independent and/or make tasks easier for you.
Avatar f tn This is a broad category that includes a number of ways in which the brain processes sensory input in ways that are uncomfortable or distressing for the child. Occupational Therapy is the discipline that evaluates and treats such conditions.
398059 tn?1447945633 My two days therapy involved speaking with a speech specialist , speaking with a occupational therapist, and working with a physical therapist. The speech therapist gave me tests to check on my cognitive skills. We found I had memory issues but determined they were tied to how I was feeling day to day. I saw her on Wednesday and had difficulties with some of her testing.
Avatar f tn I have been doing physical therapy and occupational therapy before I got out of the hospital in March 2010 and continued afterwards. I have also been doing strength training at the gym 3 to 4 days a week as well. The general concensus was that the stroke was brought on by my battle with terminal breast cancer for 2 years. I was declared cancer-free two weeks before the stroke occurred. I'm beginning to wonder if I can recover from this disasterous event and get my life back.
