Avatar n tn This all can be most uncomfortable but, especially in the final stages, can be significantly improved by the judicious administration of narcotics. Many doctors are reluctant to provide this kind of relief. It would behoove you and her to find a lung specialist, willing to provide this type of palliative care. You might also want to inquire about hospice care, especially a Hospice that has experience and is comfortable providing good care to persons with end-stage lung disease.
Avatar f tn I am also very scared about what will happen in the end. From reading your posts (and offering me comfort), it seems like the end is quick and almost "painless". Anything you can tell me will help. Thank you and God Bless everyone on this site as we are all going thru the same thing.
1832268 tn?1326816010 (please forgive any misspellings) My mother just recovered from a bout of interstitial pneumonia, and has been told that she is in the final stages of her pulmonary hypertension...could you please tell me what an average life expectancy is at this point...? She currently needs to use 6 liters of continuous oxygen per minute to maintain an oxygen saturation in the 94 percent range. She maintains this saturation as long as she remains seated.
Avatar f tn When it became evident that she was in the final stages and gasping for breath they administered morphine, orally, then a suppository, then orally again. It all happened so fast but when the last dose was given I was overwhelmed. Thankfully she lived for an additional 4 hours becasue I know now that I would have had a hand in her death by giving them permission to ease her pain. But I am left was such anguish that I could have helped to end her life. How do I cope with this feeling?
Avatar n tn she was diagnosed 4 years ago with the beginning of cirrhosis. the final stages of hepc include cirrhosis of the liver (fluid buildup in abdomen, water on the brain which leads to confusion, bleeding from mouth, sleep alot, flip flop of days and nights, etc) and flare ups of hep c which include temp, open sores, flu like symptoms, itchy skin.Eventually they will fall into a coma. hope this helps. have him evaluated. they can do a liver biospy to determine whether or not his liver is effected.
Avatar f tn My father is in the final stages of dementia. He can no longer hold anything or walk. He quit speaking about 4 years ago. I just was recently told that he no longer chews. This has been for about 6 weeks. His food is thickened so he can swallow it. He has lost about 20 pounds in 5 months. His albumin level is 2.7, and 2.5 is sometimes the criteria for hospice care. My question is, how much longer before he loses his ability to swallow?
Avatar m tn The swelling in the lower extremeties is a classic symptom, along with the shortness of breath. The swelling can manifest itself from the bottom of her feet, up to, and including her lungs. If left unchecked, or unmedicated, she will become unable to take a breath, and it could kill her. As far as stages go, I've been told I'm in stage 4 heart failure, but it doesn't mean I'm in CHF, it means that my EF is 15-20%.
438514 tn?1305734140 My question about the treatments has finally been answered by the Dr's. They are finishing the treatment plan in the hospital. They have arranged for in-home hospice after those last treatments are done. Their hope is that the final treatments may provide pain relief. So, it is pallitative in nature for the pain, rather than hopeful of cure. I really hate this.
Avatar n tn then one day it felt like I had stepped outside of it all and in examining my life and trying to figure out what had changed so much, the addition of Xanax is the only thing I could put my finger on. I didn't care about anything, was just sort of laxy-go-daisy and was not quite myself and this almost all cost me my precious marriage (which I'm now fighting to hold on to) and my family. That day I decided enough was enough.
Avatar f tn Blood in the bowel movement usually signifies a problem in your digestive tract. Hopefully your doctor finds out what the problem is, may not be that serious or it could be very serious. It could be a peptic ulcer or it could be more serious and represent polyps and could even be cancerous. Peptic ulcers are usually caused by Helicobacter pylori, see link below. It could also be a couple other items such as, tearing of anal tissue or Colitis.
Avatar f tn From one that has been there, I am so sorry about your mother, but this is for you also, it is very hard to be the caregiver at the end of a loved ones life.
Avatar n tn I have been told by my Dr. that I am in the begining stages of cirrousis of the liver do to haveing Active Hep B sence 1997. I have been on Epivir for two years plus had kemo and rads for Hodgkins cancer during the last 3 years. I am starting to feel very sick and in pain. I got a list of my CBC's and what sticks out is that my white cells are at 2.2 and dropping. The Dr. is doing nothing for me and now I am getting very ill.
Avatar m tn As a follow up to my original post, is it common in final stages of congestive heart failure for the patient to not be able to digest food? My father is fed liquid food through a feeding tube, and it seems to me he is not digesting it. He coughs up material that looks like a hardened form of the liquid food, and there is a foul smell coming from his mouth and the tube area. I wonder if the food is just rotting in his gut undigested.
Avatar f tn ago, why she has never been referred to a liver specialist. She is in Florida - Broward Co. My sister says her doctor is in a state of the art facility there and she feels she gets excellent care. I don't have much say in regards to my sister as she has never come clean with her diagnosis, but I know enough that she is turning a new corner in this condition and she should start taking things more seriously.
Avatar f tn I have had hep c for over 30 years and I believe I am in the final stages of liver disease.
363281 tn?1643235611 I just read this in another forum, I wanted to share. The Cookies An elderly man lay dying in his bed. In death's agony, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookies wafting up the stairs. He gathered his remaining strength, and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort forced himself down the stairs, gripping the railing with both hands.
8016255 tn?1396293364 an autopsy is usually performed when requested by the consultant to the patient, or the legal system if the cause of death is unknown and needs to be established. If the cause of death is known, there is no reason to perform an autopsy.
Avatar n tn Dementia, during which the patient becomes unresponsive or mute over the course of six months. This is the final progression of the disease, after which death follows.
