Filgrastim bone marrow donation

Common Questions and Answers about Filgrastim bone marrow donation

neupogen

Avatar m tn Information regarding bone marrow donation is available from the national marrow donor program at www.marrow.org. Most donors are screened with a cheek swab, however blood draw will ultimately be required. Parents of a child who needs a bone marrow transplant should speak with the treating doctors about the most efficient process at the hospital where the child is being treated.
Avatar f tn With this figures, I could surmise that the nurse is talking about your white blood counts or the neutrophil counts. White blood cell precursors in the bone marrow are usually affected by chemotherapy and this can lead to low levels of these blood cells. Since white blood cells are our body's defense against infections, the manifestations of low white blood counts would include fevers or any focus of infection.
Avatar m tn You can discuss ‘Neupogen (filgrastim) with the doc; this is a GCSF drug that stimulates bone marrow production of white cells. It is generally initiated when absolute neutrofils reach .500 or that vicinity; some docs allow closer to .350, depending on occupation and other matters.
Avatar m tn After donating bone marrow donor for through Bill Young NBMP 10-17-2007 untill current, I have had pain in lower back and down left leg Rating from 3-7 on a pain scale. I have been afforded PT and preform stretching exercises, massage techniques=manually working on scar tissue with extreme pain. After a Bone Scan and QST heat cold test I have just been told I have Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome. Other than meds that do not allow me to be mentally alert is there anything I can do?
Avatar f tn What a wonderful article, Trish, thanks for posting. I know of bone marrow registries, but this takes it to a whole different level. We often talk about organ donation after death, but what Ms. Taylor did is absolutely phenomenal. It's so sad that in many other countries organs have become a trade commodity, but perhaps programs like this will help eliminate that growing black market.
Avatar n tn Iron-deficiency anemia occurs because of a lack of the mineral iron in the body. Bone marrow in the center of the bone needs iron to make hemoglobin, the part of the red blood cell that transports oxygen to the body's organs. Without adequate iron, the body cannot produce enough hemoglobin for red blood cells. The result is iron-deficiency anemia.
Avatar m tn One, epoetin alfa (called Procrit or Epogen) stimulates the bone marrow to produce extra hemoglobin. The other, filgrastim (called Neulasta or Neupogen) stimulates bone marrow production of neutrophils, an important white blood cell destroyed by interferon. Most patients tolerate them well. It's good to have decent insurance, since it is always better to use the rescue drugs instead of reducing the dose of either interferon or ribivirin.
1253246 tn?1332073310 When we use interferon, it can suppress bone marrow production of these cells, leaving us more prone to infection. This is an unfortunate side effect of interferon, by the way. There are drugs (Neupogen) that can be used to stimulate bone marrow and increase our neutrophil count, allowing us to maintain full dose interferon.
Avatar n tn If the symptoms do not improve, get yourself evaluated by a physician and look out for SLE, bone marrow disorders, bleeding disorders, liver diseases or leukemias. Anti-clotting (anti-coagulants) medication also can cause increased bruising. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn An edema is a buildup of fluid. A bone marrow edema — often referred to as bone marrow lesion — occurs when fluid builds up in the bone marrow. Bone marrow edema is typically a response to an injury such as a fracture or conditions such as osteoarthritis. Bone marrow edema usually resolves itself with rest and physical therapy. Osteitis pubis is a condition in which there’s inflammation where the right and left pubic bones meet at the lower front part of the pelvis.
Avatar f tn It is do-able but will be very toxic to her bone marrow. You should talk with her doctor about this. I would reccoemdn a lower dose and also a nutritional assessment.
Avatar m tn My husaband recently had a bone marrow test with final dianosis of "Normocellular bone marrow with involvement by B cell Lymphoma, History of Follicular Lymphoma (5%). What does this mean?
Avatar f tn Hi. Bone marrow biopsy involves getting a sample of the bone marrow using a large bore needle that is inserted into the hip bone. The needle is still small enough such that it will not have an effect on the structural integrity and strength of the hip bone, even if your mother has osteoporosis. The subsequent treatment will depend on what the bone marrow biopsy results will be. Not all conditions which present with anemia can be treated with blood products or Epogen.
Avatar n tn hepatitis or Epstein-Barr viruses) or radiation exposure can also damage the marrow, leading to a condition called aplastic anemia. I think a bone marrow biopsy or aspiration is necessary to find out what your father's condition is.
Avatar n tn The condition can develop when the bone marrow stops regulating its production of platelets and other blood cells, often as a result of a mutation or other type of injury to the marrow. Conditions that can cause the bone marrow to produce too many platelets include infections, surgery, iron deficiency, and prior removal of the spleen. If no cause is found, it may be necessary to take a microscopic look at your son's bone marrow.
Avatar f tn The cure for this is Bone Marrow or Stem Cell transplants. Fortunately we did not have to undergo that, but there are kids everywhere who do. Kids with cancer undergo Chemo to destroy their marrow and need to obviously replace it from a donor. We decided to donate our childrens cord blood for that exact reason, we knew that the cord blood would be tested and used to save a child in desperate need of stem cell transplant.
Avatar f tn I was on Pegasys interferon with Riboviron. While on treatment my bone marrow became depleted. Now after a year and a half later thought my viral load is undectable my bones still hurt. Is this a common side effect of the treatment will the pain ever go away.
Avatar m tn Good length specimen showing intact architecture and cellularity for age. Overall cellularity is around 45 to 50%. Cellular areas show presence of erythroid and myeloid precursors. Adequate megakaryocytes noted. No granuloma or replacement/infiltration identified in the sections examined. OPINION: No evidence of bone marrow involvement by lymphoma in the slides examined.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I've had a bone marrow transplant to treat Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer) it was three years ago. My cancer is in remission, but it is not cured.
Avatar f tn Had a needle biopsy which had crashed be sells the suspicion was B cell Lymohatic disorder. Just had an open bone biopsy. Just had an open bone biopsy.. ruled out lymphoma but then they thought it was myelofibrosis. Results just came in and we still don't know what it is the B cells were once again crushed. Myelofibrosis was ruled out but lymphoma was not ruled out. All my blood tests are normal my pet scan came back clean of course except my tibia.
Avatar f tn My doctor referred me to a bone marrow specialist to have a bone marrow biopsy but then on monday called and says switching to a rheumatologist. He says he has no clue. I am a young 33 year old woman with 2-baby's and Im starting to get nervous because im having difficulty opening something simple as a peanut butter jar and trouble opening doors.the pain feels like my bones are breaking and today is going up my neck and cause the worst headache I have ever had in my life.
398059 tn?1447945633 In the UK, it appears that you probably could "Although people with multiple sclerosis can't give blood or donate bone marrow, the donation of organs is allowed. The reasoning is that the recipients of organs can be told about the donor and are in a position to accept any associated risks." http://www.mstrust.org.uk/atoz/organ.jsp Also "Can I be a donor if I have an existing medical condition? "Yes, in most circumstances.
