fibromyalgia

Avatar f tn i was diagnosed at the beginning of the year with fibromyalgia. dr. gave me lyrica samples and it was like a wonder drug. the pain was minimal and my afternoon exhaustion was gone. i went to fill the prescription and the insurance denied coverage and said it was "experimental". now, my dr. was not 100% certain that it was fibro. he said that i had a lot of sensory issues that made him under sure. i think that is why the insurance denied coverage. soooo, he tried me on gapapinten.
Avatar n tn Here are some of the treatment options - Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella are the only three drugs approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of fibromyalgia. Lyrica is an antiseizure medication, while Cymbalta and Savella are antidepressants. All three have been known to reduce the pain of fibromyalgia significantly.
Avatar n tn Anti-seizure drugs are the conventional treatment for fibromyalgia. These include Neurontin and Lyrica. Nobody really knows how these medications treat the symptoms (particularly the aches and pains) of fibromyalgia. These medications can help some individuals with fibromyalgia. But these drugs also have serious side effects.

735919 tn?1236444549 I am 30yrs old and i am taking Cymbalta for my Fibromyalgia pain but i have to stop it do to my insurance. It works REALLY well for my pain. I wanted to know if anyone is taking Lyrica for their pain and if it works.

Avatar n tn If no other diagnosis has been made and no pain medication has worked, fibromyalgia comes to mind. Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis when no other diagnosis is found. You could see a rheumatologist who specialize with fibromyalgia, but make sure that the rheumatologist is reputable, that is, that the doctor is with a major University or a major medical facility. There is still a lot of ignorance among some doctors about fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn I did a little better on Neurontin as far as less weight gain and less laziness, but I switched to a sister-medication known as Topamax. It is an anti-seizure medication just like Lyrica and Neurontin, but it doesn't have the same type of side effects and it helps with the nerve pain and migraines that Fibromyalgia can cause.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have had fibro for 9 years, it started with my last pregnancy. As you all know some day s are better than others. I was wondering what types of meds others have tried. I take Neruonton and vicodine. I want to get of the last one if I can. I can't take lyrica. Any ideas?
1218873 tn?1300091216 Could any one tell me if Lyrica or Amitriptyline would dull down my brisk reflexes? One of the reasons my neuro considered my symptoms may be MS was because I had brisk reflexes. I have been to see the neuro rehab team and in there summary it said my reflexes were normal. I actaully don't remember the dr doing them. They refered me to a neuro physio, who pointed out the way my right foot reacts to being scratched underneath is far from normal.
Avatar m tn I was given lyrica for nerve pain in my legs about four years ago. I didn't take a lot of it, only about 50 mgs every other day. My pain got worse, so I asked the doctor if I could double the dose. Doubling just the first couple of times caused swelling in my mouth and around my eyes, so I dropped lyrica altogether. In no time I was hit with xanax type withdrawal symptoms: depersonalization, lack of concentration and dizziness being the most frightening.
Avatar f tn If given a choice without cost factors pros and cons of Gabapentin versus Lyrica for long standing neuopathy pain in my back, legs and feet from surgery over 10 years ago...Any advise appreciated..

Avatar n tn Fibro is usually treated both with natural ways and possible medication like Lyrica, Neurontin, Savella, or Cymbalta. Sometimes they will prescribe a muscle relaxer if needed for muscle spasms. But most important is daily exercise....it's crucial to stay moving. The more people lay around or sleep the worse their symptoms. Eating well, maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, limit sugars, salts, simple carbs...
Avatar m tn t handle the weight gain, tiredness and bloating that I felt while on Lyrica, although it helped me immensely with pain. Lyrica is an anti-seizure medication too. I switched to Topamax because it didn't cause weight gain and my insurance finally covered it and I was very curious about it. Topamax has helped me with my migraines and is more energizing than Lyrica, although my doctor has told me that many people get tired on it.
Avatar f tn I am sure you will be fine then. You'll just have to wait it out. The withdrawal symptoms will go away eventually. Is he offering you an alternative medication instead? Perhaps Lyrica would be a better option for you since Savella didn't work out? Lyrica is also approved to treat Fibromyalgia and it's also an anti-seizure medication.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am new to this so bear with me, lol! I completed my treatment in April 2009. 6 month treatment of interferon and rib. All my tests show clear, so that is all good. When I started treatment they warned me of the side effects, flu like symptoms, depression, headaches and all that good stuff, but the treatment wasn't too bad, they started me on an anti-depressant and medication for my headaches.
Avatar f tn Lyrica is the one medication that I know of that is made to help with the pain of Fibromyalgia. I am on Lyrica myself for Fibro and it has helped me but I must say that although it doesn't completely take the pain away, it does take away a lot of the pain. It allows me to function like a "normal" person although I really do have to watch what and how much I do. I cannot do things that I used to do, unfortunately but at least I can function. :) For this, I am thankful.
Avatar f tn t seem to be helping at all anymore. I have asked about Physical Therapy and Lyrica and was told that they only use those for really bad patients. I have a 1 year old little boy that I stay at home with and most days its all I can do to take care of him and keep up with him. I don't sleep but can't stay awake...I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. Also, for a year I have been having trouble with joint pain and severe swelling of my joints. They will turn black and blue.
Avatar f tn He set me up on a slow weening schedule and since I was worried about my fibromyalgia pain coming back, he put me on Lyrica. I know nothing about this med. Does anyone have any info? The dr. did tell me it was not addictive because that was the first thing I asked him!!! I got online to read the side effects of lyrica and it said you can not suddenly stop taking it or you will experience w/d!!! That sounds addicting to me?? Any info y'all might have sure would be helpful!

Avatar n tn I've been on Lyrica for seven years. It made a huge difference when I first started it, but my pain control has gone downhill over the past six months.

Lyrica is a hybrid, so to speak, and similar to gabapentin or Neurontin. Neurontin is approved for use to treat seizures but was found to be helpful with individuals with fibromyalgia Savella is a dual reuptake inhibitor called a SNRI.
