hi. you might get more help if this wasnt posted in the dental forum. my mom just started taking cymbalta its an antidepressant but it seems to help her pain. i am not sure if its been approved for fibromyalgia but her dr had read a few articles about how it might help so he told the insurance company it was for depression caused by her pain so they would be sure to cover it. if your current dr isnt up to date with treatment options i would go to someone else. good luck!

This may be a broad question, but what is the recommended treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Quite high and warrants treatment if it [treatment] will make you feel better cos wellness is ultimate. I will go for test to determine my baseline and start treatment (entecavir or TNF). If treatment does not yield result after 3 or 6 months, I'll stop. Most of us have strings of malaria in this part of the world (Nigeria) and we rarely even complain.

Has anyone tried Celexa or any other anti-depressants for their Fibromyalgia? I was told it was approved this past June, of 2008, for the "treatment" of Fibromyalgia. If so, did it help any?

Have they found out the cause behind your fibromyalgia? Unless the correct cause is diagnosed, treatment will not be optimum. Where is the pain located?

It is a Rheumatologist who you must see for a fibromyalgia diagnosis and if positive,consequent treatment follows, prescribed normally by the Rheumatologist. There is no effective standard medical treatment for fibromyalgia other than symptom management, by the way. The suspected side-effects of the acupuncture cannot be attributed to the treatment itself, as it cannot be verified. Those " strange" side effects could be easily caused by stress alone.

What kind of treatment regimen did you have?

My Primary Care Physician suspects that I have Fibromyalgia, and I am not certain. I would like to go to a Dr. who deals regularly with this disease, to be able to know why I have so much pain throughout my body. I had chemo for Hep C and got FM. I don't think there are any Chemo's out there for fibromyalgia. The only thing that is supposed to be the FM drug is Lyrica. It works for me. I have been off chemo for a year and have terrible flares of FM, but the Lyrica does help a lot!

Unfortunately, the pain police (DEA, FDA) are forcing quite a few changes via regulations and outright fear for doctors of losing their practice. There are studies cited that opioid treatments for Fibromyalgia isn't effective. I happen to disagree but what do we know, we're just the people who are suffering. Hi, I am new to this so bear with me, lol! I completed my treatment in April 2009. 6 month treatment of interferon and rib. All my tests show clear, so that is all good. When I started treatment they warned me of the side effects, flu like symptoms, depression, headaches and all that good stuff, but the treatment wasn't too bad, they started me on an anti-depressant and medication for my headaches.

At this time, there is no "cure" for fibromyalgia - one main reason being is they have not determined exactly what causes fibromyalgia. There are many thoughts and ideas on it, however, nothing has been scientifically proven/discovered. There also are no specific blood tests, scans, etc., for diagnosing fibromyalgia = there ARE certain critieria that need to be met before a true fibro diagnosis.
