Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia treatment antidepressants

fibromyalgia

Avatar m tn It is a Rheumatologist who you must see for a fibromyalgia diagnosis and if positive, consequent treatment follows, prescribed normally by the Rheumatologist. There is no effective standard medical treatment for fibromyalgia other than symptom management, by the way. The suspected side-effects of the acupuncture cannot be attributed to the treatment itself, as it cannot be verified. Those " strange" side effects could be easily caused by stress alone.
646598 tn?1223708455 Has anyone tried Celexa or any other anti-depressants for their Fibromyalgia? I was told it was approved this past June, of 2008, for the "treatment" of Fibromyalgia. If so, did it help any?

Avatar f tn Has any one here been on antidepressants while on methadone? Alot of drugs for fibro and arthritis are blocked by the methadone, so I am hoping the antidepressants could do their job while I treat for hep c. I am on 120 MG at this time, coming down from 160 in a year. Feedback welcome!
Avatar f tn Hi All, I have been having neuro probs for past few years, worse since April last year. Had two MRI's and one CT, no liesions so told it's not MS. Symtoms never fully gone and went back to Do's before Xmas but he wanted to put me on Antidepressants (not going to happen). Taken from work begining of Jan feeling very unwell and doc at hospital, who I had seen before, to me to go and see another doc. She has referred me to see a migraine specalist, 11th of March.
Avatar f tn Other antidepressants are also helpful, such as zoloft, and the treatment for both neuropathy and fibromyalgia is similar, and often, more than one medication is necessary to control the symptoms. Combinations of medications are not necessarily harmful if taken as prescribed, and if certain other things (such as excessive alcohol consumption) is consumed at the same time. Many people are on combinations similar to yours and find benefit without major side effects.
Avatar m tn So sorry you're in pain with no real answers. Even if you have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, it doesn't really make any difference to treatment, I'm on painkillers, gabapentin, antidepressants and soon to be on nortriptyline too. It's no fun being undiagnosed though. Hopefully someone else might have some other suggestions.
Avatar f tn (the only 2 pilsl doctros can prescribe are antidepressants and they dont really work because you cant fix depression just with antidepressants) Do you know that women are 9 times more likely to be diagnosed with Fibromyalgia? Ive just met with all these new techniques and they really do help, though it's a slow process...

Avatar m tn I was on antidepressants for two years due to my anxiety. I just found out that I had hep-c but the ones that worked best for me were Zoloft and Effexor XR. But I'm not really one that should speak because me and anti-depressants don't get along. I usually have the opposite side effects of a lot of meds (e.g. if it's supposed to make you gain weight I'll loose weight).
Avatar n tn is changing my antidepressants so my fibro is a lot worse. Stress, changes in the weather and air conditioning are a big hurt for me. I'm on beta blockers and have noticed no diff in symptoms. Good luck,I know it takes a long time to find answers and I found I usually had to on my own. Thinking of you!
Avatar f tn I have tried multiple meds such as antidepressants and Gabapentin... always have had multiple side effects. Things like heart palpitation's, anziety and vision troubles. I can take xanax and Soma with no problems. My question is "could it be the Armour Thyroid that I take that causes the trouble?" I also have a movement disorder labeled as tremors/non-epileptic seizures which also gets worse with antidepressants.

Avatar f tn t go into all my details, but after 2-3 years of odd symproms and random/chronic muscle pain my neurologist has suggested that I have fibromyalgia. She said I should discuss it with my famil doctor at my next appt, which is in July. Both doctors have run me through countless tests to rule out other neuro and autoimmune diseases including MS. My family doctor really felt like I may be depressed.
Avatar m tn I had only once tested my hbsag quantity since my diagnosis two years ago. The test was done a few weeks ago and came out about 17000iu/ml. In other words quite high, that should warrant treatment immediately, in my opinion, though my dumb doctors won't put me on treatment yet. But I'm going to fight them and insist that I need antiviral treatment.

798555 tn?1292787551 The trend these days is to treat pain and fatigue with antidepressants, particularly snris that target both norepinephrine and serotonin such as Cymbalta. Recently approved for treatment of fibromyalgia. Don't know if they really do anything for these or just make people feel better about it. As for tyrosine, its effects will be much milder than an snri, but also with fewer side effects, so it couldn't hurt. If it bothers you, stop taking it.
