Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia research results

fibromyalgia

Avatar f tn My doctors are considering a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, contingent upon the results of a recent biopsy to determine if Sjogren's is a factor. Can fibromyalgia be the cause of my symptoms that cycle (recurring fevers, rash, fatigue, pain, blurry vision, and numbness in hands and feet)? I've heard of it being a factor in regard to fatigue and pain, but am unsure about vision, rash, numbness, and especially fevers.
Avatar f tn http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Fibromyalgia/The-Latest-Research-on-Fibromyalgia/show/520?cid=39 Be sure to keep checking for more information.... some of the research is posted on a research website for mostly medical professionals. It is the best way to stay informed and make sure that your physician is informed.
378725 tn?1200684802 Many physicians feel that fibromyalgia is an excuse to be lazy. There is not enough research or the correct medical tests to properly diagnose this condition. It would seem that doctors would look to the one specific body organ which controls calcium in your body (4 parathyroid glands). I have hyperparathyroidism, even after surgery two years ago. I have "bone spurs" in the back of my neck.
Avatar m tn Read my article above. I hope it will. It is new research on Fibromyalgia.
Avatar n tn I have found research that says fibromyalgia is usually a response to some other underlying problem - so an undiagnosed thyroid problem, can slowly manifest itself to appear like fibromyalgia. There are also other problems that, untreated, will eventually show up like fibromyalgia - for instance sleep apnea, etc.
533880 tn?1237612452 Antibiotics make it go away at first, but it also kills good bacteria and eventually candida will come back worse!! Research Candidiasis/Candida Overgrowth....doctors do not know what to do with this, the make it worse by giving more meds. Just research, do not blindly think western medicine will help you!! I have learned my lesson after 7 plus years and my mother has had it for a good 20 years and my brother...it runs in families of European decent because of our intestinal lining.
4942618 tn?1361331784 Wm Pridgen is conducting research into this and seems to be having some good results. Here is one of a number of articles on the web regarding his research. I will be starting his protocol in the near future. It doesn't cure it, of course, but provides relief. http://simmaronresearch.
937868 tn?1570328281 A study found that women with fibromyalgia experienced a reduced flow of nutrients to muscles after exercise. Researchers speculated that this might be related to elevated levels of INOS, which stimulates increased levels of nitric oxide. A paper examining the recent theories on the cause of fibromyalgia hypothesized that oxidative stress may play an important part in the disease. The paper called for double-blind studies to be done on antioxidants in the treatment of the disease.
Avatar m tn I found this new research by Dr. Catherine M.Pittman - one of the foremost brain researchers in the country, to be interesting. We are finding through both animal and human research that the medication class of benzodiazepines may actually prevent learning, both neuronal and cognitive and may prevent long term anxiety recovery. Our work has shown that the neuronal process for learning and also the process for unlearning (called extinction) is slowed or prevented by this class of medications.
Avatar f tn There is a relationship between vitamin D and fibromyalgia (also CFS). Immunesupport.com recently published results from a UK study that found that many fibromyalgia patients do have a vitamin D deficiency. I actually realized this before the study was published. I had been on a research protocol targeting the pathogens responsible for my immune dysfunction (lots of work and a few years) and everyone there had a low vitamin D level and higher vitamin D 1,25 hydroxy.
467579 tn?1289402969 Gene therapy has potential, not to recreate lung tissue but to reduce the airway inflammation that results in emphysema, be it smoking-induced or other. Research is underway on gene therapy but the results thus far have been very disappointing. The adaptation to chronic residence at high altitude has been studied extensively. You are correct in stating that bigger lungs have nothing to do with it and that has been well known for nearly 100 years.
Avatar n tn Fibromyalgia can last forever. There are treatments and even possible cures out there (research protocols). Fatigue, dizziness and so many other symptoms are common in fibro patients and in fact, 29% of fibro patients have a positive ANA titer. I hope that you will consider joining us on MedHelp's fibro/CFS board. I'm the Community Leader there.
Avatar n tn Please consult an orthopaedist and rheumatologist and discuss this possibility and start the treatment as your symptoms don’t relate to any other disorder but Fibromyalgia . Prostate problems and UTIs are more frequent in patients with Fibromyalgia . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar f tn Does anyone who has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia know of the best medication to take to help relieve the discomfort associated with this disease?
1364792 tn?1278051187 My doctor thinks that i might have an anxiety problem but i have never been much of an anxious person so i did some research and fibromyalgia seemed to go along with some of my symptoms.. i was just wondering what other people thought.. is it fibromyalgia, anxiety, or something else? I want opinions! Thanks!
Avatar f tn Greetings doctor I am actually doing a research paper on HIV for school and with so much info online from one end of the spectrum to the other I figure I would ask a specialist directly a few questions so here it goes... 1-with testing now a days would you consider 6-8 weeks conclusive? 2-do you believe rapid tests are just as reliable as lab based? 3-do you feel oral rapid tests are just as good as blood? 4-what are the most common symptoms you see with onset of HIV?
Avatar m tn Lowe from the Fibromyalgia Research Foundation supports the premise that most fibromyalgia patients are either hypothyroid or thyroid hormone resistant.
Avatar m tn Hi I am pretty for sure I have Fibromyalgia some of my symptoms include Soar and stiff muscles in my legs and I just have a Flu like feeling all the time and also the pressure points you have. I have those also. Does this sound like Fibromyalgia to you.
554442 tn?1221235225 Great fibro info ! Here is what Dr. Mark Shaw (author of "Beat Fibromyalgia and Fatigue") says about the possible triggers. I know I read the actual research study on this as well: Fibromyalgia/CFS can be caused by a whole range of factors. All of which, it is most likely your doctor or practitioner will not be able to diagnose.
Avatar f tn I have been seeing my doctor for the past 3 years and she keeps telling me it is probably fibromyalgia because blood tests are coming back normal. She also thought it was depression and because of that and her thoughts of fibromyalgia, she put me on 120mg of cymbalta. I have been taking it for 3 years with no improvement except during PMS time when my mood is more stable. I still have the pain, the extreme fatigue, the IBS, etc.
Avatar f tn How does one research the results of phase1 clinical trials on a new drug? If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate hearing them. thanks!
Avatar f tn Since we have conditions that are relatively new and often misunderstood in the medical field, there are many members here who do their research and share that information with the other members.
