Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia pain onset

fibromyalgia

Avatar f tn 7 weeks of torture. Sudden onset of skin redness with stinging/burning pain when I use my hands (folding clothes, flexing hand, etc.) also happens to feet (when standing, walking, etc.) When I try clothes on it seems to be happening to my entire body. This is a 24 hour condition, if I rest gets better but any activity/movement/touch redness appears with pain. I have also noticed that I've been getting a lot of burning on top of my head and some sinus pressure.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your thoughts - I think it is joint pain. They have ruled out arthritis, so she is assuming that it is fibromyalgia. I worry because if it is actually something related to her neck which is affecting that one side, her pain isn't going to improve is she simply accepts it as fibromyalgia and gets no other help.
Avatar m tn PPS - if it is the start of fibromyalgia, how can I prevent the onset of pain? Stretching? I have massage, so as painful as it may be, she can work on all the sore points to get the muscles stretched - she usually only does some.
Avatar f tn Hello-I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about four years ago due to sudden onset of severe migraines that did not start as an adolescent. I was also having severe neck pain. I have been unable to take Lyrica due to side affects. I have fatigue, headaches, and joint pain often. I also have edema often in my feet and hands, but always thought I may just retain water. I never considered Lupus until the other day.
Avatar n tn The symptoms in my arm have been there since oct-nov in Jan went to see orth and said I had an old pinched nerve and winged scapula. Did PT and pain lessen but never went away. The new onset of the new pains has been for a week, had to stop exercising, but started the PT excercises again. My sister has fibromyalgia, is thes something that is inherited? Will see my orth in about a week.
Avatar m tn It seems that most develop symptoms which steadily worsen over months or more. Did anybody experience a more rapid onset? I started with passing out, then five days later developing ringing in my ears. After that my neck became very stiff, then my face became numb, my head began to twitch, followed by balance issues, had two incidents of a irregular heart beat with palps (went to ER). All these symptoms occurred within the first two months.
5757419 tn?1373698312 What are some ways to deal with fibromyalgia pain? I mean the pain is always present, what are ways to minimize it?
1533382 tn?1357962152 my knees have been bad since I was 16 and my hips have been getting worse the last year from early onset fibromyalgia and maybe it's causing the pain but my legs and arms are so achy. Sitting hurts, standing puts too much pressure, Tylenol stopped working for me around age 19 for pain relief, and icing only numbs it for a fraction of a minute. The ache feels like this dull radiating pain more than an ache and its hard to get comfortable. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn My doctor just prescribed me Cymbalta for my joint and muscle pain and also to possibly help with fatigue. I know that most drugs like this have to be weaned off of once they are stopped, so I'm not sure if I should start on it. My doctor said if my salivary biopsy comes back positive she would start me on Plaquenil and wean me off the Cymbalta. So I'm basically taking this just to mask the symptoms I have so that I can function until they figure out what is actually wrong.
Avatar n tn I have had a five month long headache with eye movement pain with the onset of flu/mono. The WEIRDEST thing happened the other day. I put on some organic lotion I purchased at the healthfood store that I have used before. I put it on my legs and all over my face. I got a rash, but only on my cheeks and forehead. Ironically, the only place I got the rash is where my headache has been. WEIRD. I tried it again and the same thing occured. Doctors also think I have fibromyalgia/cfs.
1280306 tn?1271267786 I thought it had been proven that fibromyalgia is caused by a virus. Which, in my case, makes sense. Immediately prior to onset of all of the symptoms you described and I too share in - I had a severe case of shingles located in the area where the back of the neck joins the head - and extending down spine over to emcompass right shoulder down to right elbow.
937868 tn?1570328281 This association is strengthened by observations that women who have fibromyalgia are much more likely to have late onset of menstruation and lower fertility rates than women without fibromyalgia. Many of the most common fibromyalgia symptoms—widespread muscle pain, fatigue, poor sleep, gastrointestinal problems, and depression—also occur regularly in people who have demonstrated hormonal deficiencies.
Avatar f tn is it possible if you were diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome in your mid 30's that it could show up again in your early 50's and this would have something to do with the moving joint pain that i am having now.???????
Avatar n tn It may on the other hand be an early warning sign for some other hidden disease only testing can uncover - narrowing of the arteries, sciatic nerve damage, FMS/MPS [Fibromyalgia and Myofacia Pain Syndrome], etc. Go see your doctor b4 it really gets bad.
Avatar n tn Cindee is right (again), if you are not getting a definitive dx after all this time, it is time to see another rheumatologist. Your best bet is to be your own advocate and form a partnership with a doctor who is really interested in your case. About Cymbalta, I went up to 120mg per day and did not get relief, but that is me. I can relate to how tired they make you feel.
Avatar f tn Is it Fibromyalgia or arthritis? I did not have ab injury. The pain is at times - unbearable. I hope someone can shed light on this. Does a cortisone shot help? Thanks This discussion is related to nerve pain-ankle.
Avatar f tn Hi All, I have been having neuro probs for past few years, worse since April last year. Had two MRI's and one CT, no liesions so told it's not MS. Symtoms never fully gone and went back to Do's before Xmas but he wanted to put me on Antidepressants (not going to happen). Taken from work begining of Jan feeling very unwell and doc at hospital, who I had seen before, to me to go and see another doc. She has referred me to see a migraine specalist, 11th of March.
Avatar f tn I have been having sharp pain in my right ear along with a pressure/fullness feeling and ringing in the ear. The hearing has decreased and it is sensitive to noise. Also with this I have had a sudden onset of constant headaches (which I normally never get) that wake me up in the night, and sometimes last all day. I have been dizzy, had blurred vision, felt unbalanced and have also been having strange facial twitches. The twitches have been in my eyes, my nose and my lips!!
18894824 tn?1469465363 t get out of bed or walk. The pain came back later that day, so I went to the ER and they gave me pain meds and also two more steroid shots. The stiffness never really went away, but the pain got a bit better after a few days of being on oxycontin xr. I took another Humira shot and it happened again, so they gave more steroids and upped the oxycontin slightly.
737030 tn?1257659120 There have been studies on what causes FM and they believe stress plays a role. Now, whether this 'state of high alert' sets off something that incites FM, they can't say. It is thought that some form of trauma can cause the onset, but they aren't clear as to how this happens. Genetics probably play some role in this. I had a period of time in my life where I ran full steam because of stress...feeling as if I was always on high alert.
Avatar m tn Two days ago I had a sudden onset of severe pain in my chest ,left to the sternum.I can say the pain is some where aroud the sixth rib, near to the sternum. I can't clearly differentiate the pain, whether it is muscular or in the bone. The pain didn't go away by itself and is persistent from two days.( I was expecting it to be Precordial catch syndrome, which is relieved in few seconds to few minutes and is very common) . The pain exacerbate by over inhaling or exhaling.
Avatar f tn Is there a link between fibromyalgia and joint problems? I didn't think there was, however my body seems to be having more and more pain in my joints. I feel as if my general body tone is not strong. I am in constant pain of some type: from fibro, bursitis (in hip, knees, and one elbow), low back pain from scoliosis, and now tendonitis from computer use.
Avatar m tn It came out of the blue and she had no known injury. Fibromyalgia also can cause widespread pain. There are no actual tests for these things but ruling out other things can result in a diagnosis. I hope you get some answers and relief soon.
Avatar f tn I had been seeing a nurse practioner for the last 10 years or so but it's gotten worse.. I also have osteoarthritis and early onset osteoporosis and had been seeing a rheumatologist since the 1980's. Long story short...have new rheum. doc and he's prescribed celebrex but nothing for pain & fibro. He says go to my family doctor for the fibro and take advils & tylenols for pain, because percosets, loratabs, etc does not work for osteo. Advils/ tylenols DO NOT work for me!!!
563582 tn?1217742383 Does anyone know if there is any correlation between herpes and fibromyalgia. I notice that since I have been diagnosed with herpes my other pain (we don't know what it is yet but fibromyalgia and lupus are on the table right now) really started to increase. And it's not just the pain normally associated with herpes ( pian down the backs of the legs and swolen glands), it is all of my symptoms seemed to have increased since then.
