Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia medication weight loss

fibromyalgia

Avatar f tn Hey there I'm new to this site, but I've had fibromyalgia for about 5-6 yrs. It took my Dr about three mnths to get a diagnosis. Since there is no diagnostic test for it. Its a process of elimination. I know your frustration. Your insurance sounds whacked! Please tell its not an HMO ?! Lyrica is not an experimantal drug for this treatment the FDA approved it for the treatment of fibromyalgia. I took it for a few yrs.
Avatar f tn t weighed myself but I can feel it when I put my clothes on. Has anybody lost a significant amount of weight while taking this medication?
613290 tn?1220851676 I have weight loss, loss of smell and taste, COPD, Hep.C, Peripheral Neuropathy, Hypothyroid, Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, MVP, HPV, Acid Reflux, Hyatel Hernia and other illnesses, too many to post. I just got a recent blood test result back and my T4 is elevated. Does anyone know if that could be causing any of the problems I'm having.

Avatar f tn I almost went to the emergency room due to my weight loss. My normal weight is 98 lbs and I was down to 88 lbs. I am getting an allergic reaction to almost all of the food I eat!
Avatar n tn This might be a failed experiment and not the end of your search for a diet that suits you. As for losing weight, it is a long, slow process when it works -- quick weight loss usually is temporary, whereas loss from a permanent change in lifestyle takes time but lasts. I have no idea what's going on, but have you had your thyroid checked? I'm sure you have, but it sounds a lot more like that than fibromyalgia, at least from the little you've detailed here.
Avatar m tn Hello, I've had a fairly positive experience with all anti-seizure medications I've tried reducing pain in regards to my Fibromyalgia. I think the reason comes with my belief that there is a malfunction in the central nervous system for some reason. At this time we don't know what the cause is- many new scientists believe it may be neuro-immune. Anyhow, I've responded very well to medications like Neurontin, Lyrica and Topamax.
Avatar n tn The best weight loss diet I had to start for my new lifestyle healthy change. I know fresh is better but frozen is just as good and more convenient...

939964 tn?1288017024 I was waiting anxiously when I heard this medication was very helpful for fibromyalgia patients, and coming to Canada. To my dismay I had all the side effects mentioned for this medication and was told by my doctor to stop taking it. Like Doctor Rajgopal mentioned about medications, I was given amitriptyline which helps me have a good night sleep and I feel more refreshed when I wake up.
Avatar f tn I did a little better on Neurontin as far as less weight gain and less laziness, but I switched to a sister-medication known as Topamax. It is an anti-seizure medication just like Lyrica and Neurontin, but it doesn't have the same type of side effects and it helps with the nerve pain and migraines that Fibromyalgia can cause.
Avatar n tn I recently consulted with a weight loss doctor who prescribed a sensible diet (moderately low carb) and the medication Adipex. That combination was magic for me. The diet resulted in rapid weight loss, and the prescribed medication made it easier for me to follow the diet. I did have to follow up often with my physician, but the results are worth it!
Avatar f tn I was tested for H pylori in 2011 and again in 2012 and was told I didn't have it...interestingly though, when I was put on erythromycin for a month to help motility, I got much better and remained so for almost two years...I have had fibromyalgia pain since in college...and was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse when I was about 35...it is supposedly a benign condition in me but I suffered from what is called mitral valve prolapse syndrome for many years....
1172209 tn?1263427216 I would say to make sure you are getting some exercise, especially if you were on a healthy diet before. My psychologist told me that sometimes when you stabalize and you're not being manic as often, sometimes you don't realize that you're not doing as much physically as before (if you were one of those get up and go mania people.) So you do not realize that not only are you on a medication that can cause weight gain, but you're also not burning as many calories as you were.
Avatar n tn hi I need help losing weight I do not know what weight loss pill is the best please help me plese
Avatar f tn I have had trouble maintaining my weight since menopause. I lose weight very easily now. Over the last couple of years I have had a CT, MRI, and all sorts of bloodwork. My doctor is convinced it is just one of those things. Said she has a handful of patients that have the same thing after menopause. I take effexor for hot flashes, cholesterol medication and advair. I can't imagine any of them making me lose weight so easily. I was never heavy, but watched what I ate.
Avatar m tn I DO NOT recommend messing with your dosage but I would definately make sure my dosage is right in oder to get on the right track for weight loss.
Avatar n tn I have yet to read anything positive it sounds horrible. Weight gain, hot flashes, hair loss, etc. Is this what I have to look forward to or does this drug actually work in a positive manner on some people?
Avatar n tn I also did the HCV treatment and had such severe side effects and weight loss that I did not complete the six months. My numbers are back up after a year and I definitely have ChemoBrain.
735919 tn?1236444549 I am 30yrs old and i am taking Cymbalta for my Fibromyalgia pain but i have to stop it do to my insurance. It works REALLY well for my pain. I wanted to know if anyone is taking Lyrica for their pain and if it works.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure what you're asking us. Has the weight loss left you at an unhealthy weight for your height and build? If so, you need to see your doctor immediately. If you are happy about the weight loss and find it beneficial to your health, consider that a very nice side effect. Some ADs DO affect our weight, but usually not to extremes. You are not losing weight at a dangerous rate. 4.5lbs a month is a safe and healthy rate.
10822330 tn?1413073760 If you have a normal BMI, the weight loss you're reporting corresponds to people fasting on water only, i.e. getting no food whatsoever. As others said, this is a serious matter and you should discuss it with your Dr asap.
