Fibromyalgia medication for pain

Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia medication for pain

fibromyalgia

Avatar n tn I know someone who has been on OxyContin for about 9 years for Fibromyalgia pain. This person gets about 90 OxyContin a month. I personally think that is outrageous. I really wish the FDA would get rid of this drug completely.
Avatar f tn If Lyrica worked for you, then start the fight with the insurance company. Either find a doctor that will write you the letter for it, or talk with your doctor about the fact that it worked, and you need his help for recommendation. Insurance companies suck for this, but I have fought with mine countless times for medication, and they usually give in. Dont give up! I would ask your doctor why he wouldn't recommend the medication if it was working?
939964 tn?1288017024 I was waiting anxiously when I heard this medication was very helpful for fibromyalgia patients, and coming to Canada. To my dismay I had all the side effects mentioned for this medication and was told by my doctor to stop taking it. Like Doctor Rajgopal mentioned about medications, I was given amitriptyline which helps me have a good night sleep and I feel more refreshed when I wake up.
1130095 tn?1267369259 I take oxycontin 40mg per day, percocet for breakthrough pain, topamx for migraines, edpidrin for onset of a headache, trazadone for sleep, and if you aren't taking a thyroid medication ask the doctor to prescribe a low dose thyroid medication. I take Levoxyl. I have for years. My thyroid tests come back normal however I have all the symptoms of under active thyroid. I went to a doctor years ago, he's since retired. He prescribe this Levoxyl for me.
Avatar f tn I take Opana ER which is an extended release pain med and I take percocet for breakthru pain. I also take Lyrica for nerve pain, Trazadone and Flexeril at night to help with sleep and muscle spasms, and I am on Zoloft and bloodpressure meds. I went a long time with no pain meds then to Tramadol then to Lortab, etc.... I have very high pain levels on a daily basis plus I have a high tolerance to meds so the weaker ones never worked well for me.
Avatar f tn i have burning all the time i have spinal issues and fibromyalgia i just moved to virginia so on top of that i no longer have a doctor the doctors here think that my former doctor is still medicating me while he is not. so now im dealing with withdrawal symptoms as well and after taking narcotics 6 years and increasing protruding disk pain. im in trouble. not just burning but stinging throbbing nagging ect.
Avatar f tn t really sound much like fibromyalgia pain - that pain is typically widespread and not just in one area (although certain areas can feel worse at times than other areas). It also usually affects both sides of the body pretty equally. It sounds more like maybe a shoulder injury (have you fallen or stretched your shoulder at all? heavy lifting?) I could also be a pleuritic type pain (inflammation of the area around the lungs).
735919 tn?1236444549 I am 30yrs old and i am taking Cymbalta for my Fibromyalgia pain but i have to stop it do to my insurance. It works REALLY well for my pain. I wanted to know if anyone is taking Lyrica for their pain and if it works.
1075109 tn?1281835691 It can actually help you avoid taking so much medication. Another good medication for fibromyalgia which is an anti-depressant if you can take it is Cymbalta. It helps with pain and is often prescribed for FM. I hope this helps a little. Best of luck. Bottom line its an over all approach, food, herbs, vitamins, medication, exercise. And therapy if you need it. Best of luck.
690327 tn?1255354511 t without serious side-effects. I pray you are getting some relief for yours because I see how much pain she is in. Feel better soon and take care of yourself.
1023657 tn?1251844941 One of them is exercise. Fibromyalgia pain is muscle pain and the most important therapy for muscle pain is regular, gentle and low-impact exercise. It keeps muscles conditioned and healthy and decreases the amount of discomfort. It is very important to try low-stress exercises such as walking, swimming, water aerobics, and biking rather than straining exercises such as weight training. Heavy exercises worsen the symptoms.
Avatar f tn My doctor in Kingston ten years ago, felt strongly that I have Fibro, because I have had TWO recent tests for arthritis, but it came up clear from that. I was on medication over ten years ago for depression, but I am off those now. I will leave that with you for now. Thankyou SO MUCH, you gave a great response, and I will search for the eye test.
Avatar n tn Other than depression, Cymbalta is more used in treating Fibromyalgia or Diabetic Neuropothy pain. It is not so widely used in chronic pain such as yours. The host of side effects it comes with is also a concern to me..Some of which include suicidal tendencys. Be sure to read your medication guide and I would discuss the headaches and ringing of the ears right after the Holiday. Med Help offers a forum by the name of "Ask the Pharmacist", this might be of some help to you also.
Avatar m tn I have been on Lyrica and Cymbalta for the fibromyalgia and that has helped my pain level somewhat. I also take Zanaflex (a muscle relaxer) to help with sleep, pain and the back tension. When was your last MRI? I would try to have a recent one to rule out future degeneration. I am in constant pain but when I experience a flare up of my fibromyalgia; it intensifies the pain ten fold. I wish you luck and in the absence of medication I would try to take ibuprofen. Good luck.
Avatar m tn The important thing to remember though, is medication management is highly individualized. What works for one person, may not work for another. Just because I am doing well with something doesn't mean everyone else will. That's the terrible thing about Fibro.
1416259 tn?1282055072 Although fibromyalgia usually presents with chronic widespread pain, pain may also be localized in areas such as the shoulders, neck, low back, hips, or other areas. Alternatively she should be tested for gout and rheumatoid arthritis. The cause of fibromyalgia is often hereditary or due to a physical or emotional trauma or due to lingering infection in the body such as due to mono.
1577364 tn?1296689784 I also suffer from fibro (was diagnosed 12 years ago), DDD and other chronic pain issues. It can be very frustrating and depressing for surem especially when the things you try either don't help or you have a bad reaction to them. Some non-medicinal things you can try that sometimes help me are warm baths or showers - not too hot or too cold - I find that extremes in either direction make me hurt worse. I also quite often use a microwaveable heating pad.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Lyrica is prescribed for seizures, Fibromyalgia, diabetic neuropathy, or other neuropathy associated diseases. Amitriptyline is in the class of antidepressants which can be used for neuropathic pain as well. I'm not sure if it would dull your brisk reflexes or not -- I would place a call to your doctor and ask him/her if it can cause your reflexes to be dull.
1353650 tn?1429463374 For some reason this insulin resistance is over looked and they treat us with anti-depressants, pain medication and so on. I never took any medication for my condition because I knew if I was medicated I wouldn't be able to determine if I was having side effects from the drugs or symptoms from the fibro. I new I could find out what was wrong with me and taking medication wasn't going to fix the problem. A test you can do with your mom is a strict diet for a week.
Avatar f tn I have severe Fibromyaliga pain mostly in my back between my shoulder blades. The pain is so severe that without treatment I would need a wheelchair to get around. I've been taking Tramadol 100mg for 3 years but its slowly losing its effect and I'm finding my pain getting worse again. So I am now looking for either an entirely new medication or something I can take on top of the Tramadol to help ease the pain.
