Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia leg swelling causes

fibromyalgia

It came on my left foot, then leg and sometimes right foot. Then it showed up on my left arm and the left side of my face 2 1/2 months ago. My GP ordered and MRI with and without:normal. Did labs of CBC, CHEM 7, thyroid, lupus , not sure what else: all normal. I saw a neuro last week. Did exam:normal. Says does not look like MS or other problem and to come back if worse or lose fx. So, What can I do to relieve this numbness?
The paper is quite detailed and recommends that every MS patient be evaluated for spasticity, whether we complain to our neurologist or not. Here is a list of spasticity causes that they reference - a couple of them really caught my attention. Be sure to look at your antidepressants if you are on one - the serontonin uptake inhibitors (I hope I got thatright) are on the no-no list.
The doctor gave me a steroid injection called Kenalog and said the swelling should go away within 24 hours. The swelling did go down throughout the day, but the aching continued. I started getting painful areas on my skin( palms of my hands, outsides of my knees and my tailbone). My hips ached so badly i could barely walk, but i just gave it time per doctors orders. Oce again i awoke the next morning with the same itchy "hives".
Legs: very acute Sciatica prodominently in the right leg but also in the left leg that makes walking very difficult and painful, mainly as this also induces a severe shooting pain. His right foot is swollen and painful to stand on, the middle toe is badly swollen and there is also a severe pain in the ball of the foot just behind the big toe. Lower Back: Continues to be painful especially with a sharp pain when undertaking any movement. Upper Body: Sharp pain in the front of his chest.
Over a year ago was in a car accident and my muscles and joints hurt so bad most of the time its hard to have a normal day. Its not arthritis or lupus and Dr's are now saying fibromyalgia..I also have extreme burning in my joints and neck is this also a symptom of fibromyalgia?
Over the past several months (probably since late October or early November,) I've been having severe joint pain and swelling, accompanied by chronic fatigue, headaches, limited range in movement, and occasional fever and/or nausea. I also have a very hard time sleeping, and have experienced what feel like heart palpitations, or racing of the heart at completely sporadic times. I've been to the doctor four times for this, and two rounds of bloodwork have been done.
Recently I've been wondering if there is some occassional liver swelling that causes problems in that area. I've had a few enzyme tests and they have been normal. I wonder if gallbladder can "hide" from tests at times. Is this too low for gallbladder? If it was gallbladder would meds cause pain? Any possibilities outside of gallbladder or liver? Why would a med cause pain? After 2 yrs could pain ever = emergency?
Almost four months after surgery, I am still experiencing massive swelling and excruiating pain with inflammation. I was having a great recovery for the first ten days, then BAM! My leg, knee and ankle swelled to gigantic proportions. My doctor has said only that I have arthritis in my knee and I have to be patient. On at least three occasions, I have been in tears in his office and asking what to do about it. He still tells me be patient. This is surely not normal.
My daughter is a cosmetologist and she told me the topo causes the hair follicles to close. What has fallen out, wont grow back, but the hair loss should stop when you discontinue the drug. The Topo really messed up my cycle too. I think my adrenals took a hard hit from just two weeks on the drug. For me it was not worth it. I was stupid, depressed and started having panic attacks on it. I would loose blocks of time. Huge blocks.

First trip was hurting, numbness and swelling of the left knee and some into the lower leg. ER Dr. took one look and said it was a Bakers Cyst and would have to eventually see orthopedic surgeon. I made the appointment, but prior to appointment I had another attack and went into horrible pain in back of leg. I decieded it was not safe to drive with such pain so went by ambulance.....ultra sound was taken and showed no clots, and left with no answers.
Because nerves innervate muscles (which is why nerve damage causes strength issues) then I would guess this is a nerve thing, since the muscle in my leg is more sore than usual this week.
no numbness or anything on the back of my leg. While the leg is numb, it still gets itcy and it is very irritating to scratch it. If I stand or walk for too long, the burning sensation comes into play, and I have to sit down, because it also hurts my lower back, makes my back feel like it will break if I don't sit down. This has been going on for 23 years! And not one doctor can tell me what is wrong...
I often awake from muscle cramps in the night. The cramps are in all my lower leg muscles, especially little ones I would never have known I had, but are rarely in my calves. Occasionally they are in my thigh muscles too. Like restless leg syndrome, I usually have to stand up and/or walk to get rid of them. Unlike what I have been told about it, they cause actual pain. This may happen several times a night. Usually I have about two to four weeks in which it happens almost nightly.
Has anyone had the experience of suddenly feeling like a part of your body was ice cold. Tonight my left leg suddenly started to feel like it was sitting in an ice bath. It is not cold to the touch though, just perceived as cold. I just can not shake th ecold feeling, the rest of me is comfortable. Is this somethin that happens with MS? This is my first experience with it...I do have other issues with this same leg in the last 2 years...
i never ate bread (which i know causes swelling in certain members of my dad's side with gluten allergies) i am going back to eating lean meat, tuna veggies and fruit and i will get back to the good health i enjoyed before. it is not okay to be overweight. i don't ever want to have my chest cracked opened like my mom did. good luck.
thing with me when I told him about the weight gain. This week I am having a lot of unusual knee and leg pain and no one can say why. The pain only starts after I take my 5mg Bystolic tablet. I too gained 15 pds with no dietary changes. I joined Weight Watchers and an wasting money nothing seems to be working to lose the weight.
My daughter has been complaining of leg pain on and off for about two weeks now. Yesterday it brought her to tears and again today. Everytime I ask her where it hurts, she points to either her thigh, knee or calf area. The pain is intermittent, no swelling that I can see, no fall that I remember. No other symptoms. My first initial thought was growing pains, but wouldn't it be in both legs? And would it bring her to tears?
oh my gosh, while googling for "heat sensation in lower leg" I found these comments....has anyone been told what causes this? Mine started about a month or so ago and happens periodically. It is SO strange and I haven't even mentioned it to anyone for fear they'd think I was imagining it or something! I was glad to see others describing the exact same sensation. I have my annual physical in about 3 weeks and will mention it, but am also thinking my dr will think I'm a hypochondriac!
I started calendaring his fevers and they now occur every two weeks- like clockwork. His fevers are occassionally accompnaied by leg pain and stomach pain. During the few days before his fever he is extremely fatigued- tired enough that he falls asleep sitting up. A CBC was done and indicated that he was anemic (his H&H was ~10 and ~30). Two weeks later, his H&H was normal.
I have tenderness in one leg which is my right leg but the sensitive an tenderness feeling is only in the back of my leg from the top to the bottom of my feet an pain shoot through it every 10 to 15 mins. I get this all the time but it be months befor it even comes back.
It eventually went away later that night. Ever since that night, I have had pains all in my left leg. They only particularly bother me at night, but sometimes during the day. They are never in the same spot. Sometimes the pain is below the knee only, or like last night, it starts in my butt and goes all the way down. I went to the dr. last week and saw a PA because my dr. is on vacation and he honestly didn't know. He examined my legs, tested my reflexes, tilted my ankle to test for pain.
I had an baby got an epidural, since the epidural I been having severe lower back pain and numbness and tingling in my right. Now this what the doctor have told me since. Before I tell can tell you can you tell me the probem. One doctor told me I haveBack Pain with Sciatica, Hematuria and he went on im his notes I have MS and the MS is called Arthralgia and Muscle problem.
Elbows and knees are the most commonly affected. The other causes of this type of pain are fibromyalgia{a disorder classified by the presence of chronic widespread pain and tactile allodynia(pain on touching); The defining symptoms of fibromyalgia are chronic, widespread pain and tenderness to light touch},hamstring muscle strain due to overuse,Lyme’s disease(inflammatory disease spread through a tick bite.),Lupus(connective tissue disorder) and polymyositis (skeletal muscle disorder).
Treatment includes resting, icing, correcting your footwear, and reducing swelling of the extremity. These are just a few of the causes of myalgias. I recommend that you follow up with your primary care physician to evaluate. He/she may wish to run some simple blood work including a chemistry and blood count as well as a CK and TSH levels. The diagnosis will determine the treatment course.
In peripheral artery disease there is atherosclerosis in the blood vessels leading to obstruction to the flow of oxygenated blood to the body's tissues and organs. Fibromyalgia causes generalized bodyache, pain in several joints and fatigue. Pains in the affected limb, weakness, difficulty in bearing weight are few of the common symptoms of bone cancer. Swelling is a sign seen in the later stages. These are only few possibilities. An X-ray of the affected limb can help in detecting bone cancer.
thanks for responding. I did take neurontin with no help. The lyrica helps dull the pain but causes severe swelling of the feet, legs & hands so I had to quit taking it. I have been offered pain meds but will do so only as a last resort because they make me sleep 4 to 6 hours each dose. Good luck. Let me know if acupuncture helps. If so I might try that.
last 5 years i have had pain in arms legs chest, and neck. dr says fibromyalgia. i dont think so. swelling all over body and 60 lbs weight gain. medicie zanax, and ibuprofen dr gave. this feels like it is a problem with my veins. they are exposed more and pain is where i find a vein. it burns and causes alot of pain. this has made me feel like i am having a heart attack. go to hospital and they say all is fine or give me anti inflamtory meds. now pains in stomach and back of head and neck also.
