Monster These areas feel painful with even slight pressure and are called tender points (figure 1). Many patients with fibromyalgia feel that their joints are swollen, although there is no visible inflammation of the joints (arthritis). ### FIBROMYALGIA TESTS — There are no specific laboratory or imaging tests used to diagnose fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points — places on your body where slight pressure causes pain. Fibromyalgia is more common in women than in men. Previously, fibromyalgia was known by other names such as fibrositis, chronic muscle pain syndrome, psychogenic rheumatism and tension myalgias.
554442 tn?1221235225 Fibromyalgia (FMS or Fibro for short) is a chronic condition which causes widespread pain and fatigue as well as a variety of other symptoms. The name Fibromyalgia comes from "fibro" meaning fibrous tissues (such as tendons and ligaments), "my" meaning muscles, and "algia" meaning pain. Fibro does not cause joint pain or swelling. The pain from Fibromyalgia is produced in the soft tissues of the body, including the muscles and tendons. http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn Hi I'm new to the group, I've just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and i want to know how do you get it, what brings it on and how is it diagnosed?
Avatar f tn I know that some of the members here still don't have a diagnosis and so I thought I would post some breaking news about what causes CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis). I'm happy that a Belgium physician, Dr. Kenny De Meirleir, MD,PhD, spoke at a press conference unveiling his team's groundbreaking findings regarding CFS/ME.
Avatar f tn This is a very interesting article, although I haven't found whatever articles this one is based on. It describes a condition that could be the underlying vascular dysfunction that results in Fibromyalgia, but it still doesn't answer the question of what causes this dysfunction. Seems to me that if it's a vascular problem, the trigger is most likely an infection or a toxin or perhaps a combination of both, along with a certain genetic type of immune system.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I was just wondering what causes Fibromyalgia? Can Anxiety, Depression/Bipolar, IBS, or Genital Herpes cause it?
Avatar f tn Epidemiological studies have confirmed that patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) frequently overlap with fibromyalgia (FM), suggesting some commonality. Fibromyalgia occurs in up to 60 percent of patients with functional bowel disorders. Up to 50 percent of patients with a diagnosis of FM syndrome complain of symptoms characteristic of functional dyspepsia, and 70 percent have symptoms of IBS.
Avatar n tn I note you are posting in the Fibromyalgia/CFS forum.... do you have Fibromyalgia/CFS? Patients with Fibromyalgia/CFS do sometimes show irregularities on the MRI... seperate from conditions such as MS.
Avatar f tn Two years ago I came down with a mild flu which I passed onto my mother, at the end of it's duration we both ended up with Fibromyalgia, did my mother catch Fibro from me or is it just a co-incidence and seeing as we got it from a virus should we both get tested for the XMRV virus
Avatar f tn Yeah thanks for that at least we dont have lyme disease in our country,so that one diagnosis that they cant get wrong
168348 tn?1379357075 IC can also occur and usually does along side other pelvic conditions, like Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Fibromyalgia, IBS and others. We do know that most IC patients have an increase in Mast Cells and histamine, which is why many doctor's start their patients out on an antihistamine to help treat it. This is also a found in many autoimmune diseases. The symptoms of IC can vary greatly between patients and even the same patient throughout the day.
Avatar f tn Hello I had my Thyroid removed in march 2009, they found cancer and nodules on it. I just went threw Iodine radiation and finially on some thyroid replacement. It's been very hard for the last 3months, with my heart, body pain, tired, head aches . I've had Fibromyalgia for 13years that I know of, basicly I am almost crippled. Has anyone gotten better after their thyriod problems where taken care of?
Avatar n tn I don't know what your symptoms are, but some fibromyalgia patients have been reported to have frequent cases of shingles. As far as diagnosing some of these illnesses, it is complicated and getting even more complicated. I can tell you that lyme disease is a must to be ruled out. Because if you have lyme disease, you can be treated with antibiotic therapy.
Avatar f tn I have tried multiple meds such as antidepressants and Gabapentin... always have had multiple side effects. Things like heart palpitation's, anziety and vision troubles. I can take xanax and Soma with no problems. My question is "could it be the Armour Thyroid that I take that causes the trouble?" I also have a movement disorder labeled as tremors/non-epileptic seizures which also gets worse with antidepressants.
997519 tn?1251239849 I have been through some tramatic events like the symptoms say because i have a chemical embalance i guess that causes me to have thoughts that tourture me. I get depressed too. I took Ibuprofen everyday and it stoped.
7450908 tn?1390996321 I was diagnosed with fibro about 18 years ago. I've been using Lyrica & was using Cymbalta for a while as well. I quit using the antidepressant because it seemed to make the depression worse. I'm on low income & I'm telling this medication is getting so expensive that I have a hard time affording to buy just a months worth at taking one a day. At certain times of the year I have to take more than one a day. Is there a more natural way to deal with fibro?
