Avatar f tn IF you can see your leg muscle moving it is usually (fasciculation) muscle contractions and can be quite severe. My friend has these a lot with her M.E. and Fibromyalgia and then they found that some of the drugs were depleting her magnesium so she takes a supplement. However I have had for example spasms in my toes where they literally move up and down its bizzare, and even in my thumb lol....the thumb just moves...... So what are spasms. What are spasms?
Avatar f tn I also get muscle spasms from my fibromyalgia. I take a medicine called neurontin that helps with the nerves. I also have had to take a medicine called Robaxin for my muscle spasms. I know from personal experience that trying to stop the spasms is not easy on the skin after a while. By the way, I have had multiple muscle spasms at a time. I was thoroughly checked out for the other things listed above. Take care!!!
Avatar n tn I'm 55 years old. Started with back pain accompanied by muscle spasms in back and tingling in big toe, then in toes and in both feet--it's constant. Sometimes feels like I'm walking on small pebbles. Progressed over a two-year period to muscle spasms in upper back when I would try to straighten up. Started to have trouble walking at times. Would last one to three days. Worse when under stress or upset.
Avatar n tn It could be from muscle atrophy or could be fibromyalgia (often happens in conjunction with many types of arthritis) or something else. It is important you see a rheumatologist for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
Avatar n tn Fibromyalgia is an important condition of chronic fatigue which causes severe muscle pain, with muscle spasms in chest. Costochondritis, can have a sharp chest wall pain worsened by movement, direct pressure on that area. Costochondritis can be a part of certain diseases like fibromyalgia, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis etc.
Avatar f tn Could anyone tell me if having muscle spasms are part of Fibromyalgia? I have several a month in my back. They are not painful, but just jolt me for a few minutes. There is no rhyme or reason for them they come whenever they want to. Because of these I do not drive as they take away my concentration for a few moments while I am having one. Please if anyone has any idea what these are could they please help me. I have been to every kind of Dr.
Avatar f tn Other symptoms can include moderate to severe fatigue, a heightened and painful response to gentle touch (allodynia), needle-like tingling of the skin, muscle aches, prolonged muscle spasms, weakness in the limbs, nerve pain, functional bowel disturbances and chronic sleep disturbances. Diagnosis is by clinical examination and history of the patient. Antidepressant drugs, analgesics and muscle relaxants have been used frequently to treat fibromyalgia.
Avatar n tn I have had muscle spasms in my legs for quite a long time. Now I get mthem all over my body. They wake me from sleep, as I drive, I get them in my back and sides, neck, arms. This is driving me crazy. They get so painful at times I get into the shower just to let the hot water relax them....what is wrong with me??? I eat a bananna a day, have had my electrolites, and potassium checked and its ok...I cant take much more. Its getting worse....HELP!
1023657 tn?1251844941 One of them is exercise. Fibromyalgia pain is muscle pain and the most important therapy for muscle pain is regular, gentle and low-impact exercise. It keeps muscles conditioned and healthy and decreases the amount of discomfort. It is very important to try low-stress exercises such as walking, swimming, water aerobics, and biking rather than straining exercises such as weight training. Heavy exercises worsen the symptoms.
Evillady Is it commen for women 35 years and older to experience problems swolloung liquids or anykind of food when they have fibromyalgia. 788554 tn?1257693252 OK, so I understand what causes the pin and needles and tingling, and numbness, fatigue in ms. But what causes the muscle aches, stiffness and spasms? I know it comes with the territory but does anyone understand what is the cause of it?
Avatar f tn On top of other problems, I have recently been having muscle spasms in my hands, legs and feet. The hand problems occur when I've driving, holding up the newspaper, writing a letter. My hand gnarls up into an ugly claw, my fingers spazzing painfully. The problem with my legs and feet usually occurs after I've been asleep. I will be awakened with muscle spasms in the ball of my feet or the calves of my legs or sometimes the deep muscles on the inside of my thighs.
Avatar f tn Yes magnesium is good for muscle cramps/pain/spasms too. I take about 425mg of SloMag a day (regular magnesium gives me diarrhea). If you take Epson salt baths be sure to hydrate yourself.
Avatar f tn With Lupus your muscles can be affected. Spasms can happen more when you are low in potassium and magnesium. You may want to up your intake of bananas, potatoes, etc. or look at taking a magnesium supplement to help.
Avatar m tn I just started experiencing muscle twitching and weakness the last couple of weeks. I am extremely terrified that I have ALS. My dad's sister just recently passed away from ALS and I wish that I could have talked to her to see how her symptoms began. I have an appointment with a neurologist tomorrow and am hoping that it will be the lesser of the two evils (fibromyalgia).
Avatar f tn There is a possibility that your child is suffering from fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia in children causes muscle twitches, pains, shooting pains in the legs, insomnia, difficulty in controlling bladder, lack of stamina and ADD. http://users.wildblue.net/wmson/children.htm Please discuss this possibility with his treating doctor. Let us know if you need more information. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have fibro and notice muscle spasms especially when trying to sit or rest. The painful knots in our muscles, also called trigger points, cause the spasms. Trigger points can refer pain anywhere in the body. The reason we get trigger points is probably due to muscle fatigue from our muscles being tight all the time. Our muscles are tight, because we don't sleep well. Why we don't sleep, I am still trying to figure out...
Avatar m tn Blood levels of magnesium are tightly controlled within a narrow range which represents only about 1.00%-1.50% of the total in the body. Tissue testing is more representative, so any hair analysis lab will give all the tissue mineral levels, including magnesium. Silverfox was right to suggest this, as the majority of people in our society are chronically magnesium deficient.
5595892 tn?1370579752 Musculoskeletal conditions- Fibrositis, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms, eye twitches, cramps and chronic neck and back pain may be caused by Mg deficiency and can be relieved with Mg supplements. Nerve problems- Mg alleviates peripheral nerve disturbances throughout the whole body, such as migraines, muscle contractions, gastrointestinal spasms, and calf, foot and toe cramps. It is also used in treating central nervous symptoms of vertigo and confusion.
529159 tn?1224991026 I also have fibromyalgia and have the same muscle spasms that you speak of....lots of screaming and praying. It freaks my family out! I found that getting into a warm bath with epsom salt sometimes brings immediate relief. The one I had yestarday took a little longer than usuall to get relief but it usually works.
Avatar f tn Starting last fall, I began experiencing back spasms and a feeling of weakness in my legs. This occurred day after my first-ever yoga class. My primary physician said I probably overdid the stretches and triggered a muscle rebound (contracting) problem. An MRI of my back was taken, showing osteoarthritis (which I've known about for years). In fact I've suffered from sciatica before but that was years ago and I've been mostly pain-free since then.
Avatar n tn I got the same symptoms after a tetanus shot. Burning boiling pain, muslce twitches and spasms, weakness. It happens when I rest, not necessarily trying to sleep. (was eventually diagnosed with "fibromyalgia"). This was unacceptable to me. Something was not right! After much research, I have realized a few things:1) Mercury (thermosol in the flu shot) allows pathogens to grow and multiply. They love it! 2) Vaccines -an abrupt trauma to your immune system-- can bring out latent Lyme.
Avatar f tn This year if I do too much during one day, my upper back spasms into a neck/shoulder pain spasm and causes migraine, and I am bedridden. The only thing that provides relief is a hot bath and codeine and 2 muscle relaxants and one gravol. It has only been that bad for one year. Hot water bottle constantly on upper back and hot bath or I will NOT fall asleep due to pain and spasms. Is this something other people have?
751397 tn?1367437548 Hi, I am new to this...I really would appreciate any advice. I am a 20 year old female with many problems. My lower back has a lot of degeneration and arthritis to the point the orthopedic I saw said it looked like a 45 year old's, my neck is now straight due to muscle spasms, and constant headaches for three and a half years (which possibly are caused by TMJ). The dentist I see for the TMJ said that this might be similar to the problems I am having with my muscles and skeleton.
