Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia and tooth pain

fibromyalgia

Is there a connection between fibromyalgia and the ability to manage dental pain during procedures? I had to have some cavities taken care of last week - the dentist had to do four rounds of novacaine in addition to the topical analgesic and it had no effect on the nerves. He even gave me the maximum amount that could be administered. I'm also curious if there is a link between tooth decay and fibromyalgia.
My mom had that too and I know is very painful. My husband needs both knees replaced and has Charcot-Marie-tooth very bad and suffers dearly from the wasting. I feel for you. I know how I feel with my pains and spasms in my knees. I can't imagine a knee sx. concerning the pains. Please take care. I've been privately praying for you on this. Take care. Thank you all again. I'm feeling better tonight....knock on wood.
my first rheumy 10 yrs ago asked me abt 10 questions abt pain and sleep problems than stood me up and poked 18 spots on my body...many of which hurt sure but NOT SEVERELY..than labeled me FM,.she completely neglected the pain I came to her abt in the first place which was more back/leg ....soon as they hear pain and sleep issues together a light goes on in their heads and awwww must be FM. forgive my ranting...I get so disgusted with doctors sometimes its a raw subject with me!
The arch on my left foot is now higher then my right one and I am constantly aware of the pain, tenderness and stiffness in my four extremities. My MRI in 2002 was normal as were EMG's to my left foot and right arm. It feels like somebody is sticking toothpicks under my finger nails. My leg feels numb, stiff and cold in the daytime and at night it turns to a burning type of pain. My right foot is normal but the cramping pain that first affected my left foot is now starting in my right one.
are your wisdom teeth coming through, when my were coming through the root of the tooth was growing into my ear drum, giving me intense pain,i had an x ray and then had it removed in hospital
I was diagnosed 15 months ago when my youngest was born via c-section and was given Oxycodone for the pain, became dependent on them and had to go to a facility to get help to stop them (my choice)...I didn't want to be chained to meds the rest of my life but the pain is just unbearable. I am very depressed and anxious right now with all of the moves, being separated, still trying to accept my diseases and limitations, etc. and with the stress in my life right now...my pain is exacerbated.
If your extensive dental treatment were rendered for left side facial pain and pain was not relieved, you may have a condition known as atypical odontalgia. Seeing an Orofacial pain specialist is advised.
Right now, I have pain in my jaw, right ear, bottom right side to front of gums, and neck. I also have pain in my right shoulder and right arm. Most of the time I have pain in my right buttock, back, both legs and toes. I have missed many days from work because of my illness and the debilitating tiredness. I wonder whether I will be able to continue to work. I feel that I am not doing my share. And coworkers let me know each time I return to work after a flare up.
THe very short version is I was prescribed MS Contin and Vicodin by one doctor for my bad back/discs, arthritis and fibromyalgia, and the pain clinic i was going to was giving me darvocets as well. Hello and Welcome to the pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us at MedHelp. I am sorry to hear about your undiagnosed painful symptoms. When I read your first post I thought you were experiencing bone pain and than you added the second post that said "electrocuted" which then sounds like nerve pain. It's possible to have both. Have you been evaluated by a rheumatologist? If not that is where I would begin.
I've had fibromyalgia for about a year and I just recently realized the timeline for when that started and pain and burning in my mouth. Can FM cause pain in the mouth? I've already seen my dentist and he just suggested dry mouth and to use mouthwash which was no help. I wanted to see my family doctor soon but cannot get appointment until January. My last appointment with rheumatologist was just last week but I didn't put these two together until 2 days ago.
i have to slowly move them down by my sides and will get instant relief from the pain. i woke up the other night and my elbow was straight, had the same intense pain, slowly moved my elbow to a bent position and again had instant relief from the pain. this happens consistently it's very weird. I frequently get very frustrated with my physical limitations, normal tasks hurt and takes me a long time to do. often end up crying or getting irritable. Ok that took a lot longer than i meant it to.
(they take turns) Severe swelling in stomach, lost 52lbs in 6 weeks, growing little round bony bumps on joints of fingers and wrist, severe pain going up and down shins and in all long bones in body and severe pain in all joints, even feet (like walking on glass) Charlie horses all over also. Low grade multiple fevers daily, abscess's on sinus's and kidney and a fatty liver. Hair loss, double vision or blurred.
Just discovered I have both of these a couple months ago after noticing a lump in my gum. The cyst has been eating away at my jaw and has perforated it, I've had no pain, but will be getting surgery soon. My question is what are the chances of the tooth infection contributing to my chronic fatigue? I have found a few only posts stating, infections can make you feel lousy, fatigued etc. But no real solid information or testimonials.
Allodynia is a clinical feature of many painful conditions, such as neuropathies, complex regional pain syndrome, postherpetic neuralgia, fibromyalgia, and even migraines. Some types of sensory neuropathies occur and progress very slowly, others sort of wax and wane (with flare-ups) and some are progressive.

I have pain in my hands, feet (hurt the most), and less pain in my knees (parallel pain on all sides). It is mostly burning/inflamatory type of pain and sometimes I have difficulty to kneel. Longer standing on my feet than 15 min in flat shoes gives me a lot of pain in both of my feet (not only joint pain but also surrounding tissues -tendons, muscle). My bloodwork tests came negative for RA and Lupus and Lyme disease. Same tests were done 10 years ago and came back negative.
I have been experiencing sever jaw pain and ear pain for a few days. It is one sided (left), and is worse in the morning and evening. Could this possibly be related to RA?
i've just returned from the dentist this morning. This is a young, newer dentist.I had previously gone to the same one for abt 30 years. I have had several root canals, the last about a month ago. For years I have had a lump under my tongue, not on the underside of the tongue but the soft area that would be a part of the tissue under the tongue/chin where there are glands. It is a lump that can be felt by the tip of the tongeu but not by feeling with a finger on the outside.
I have migraines and this sounds like one to me and if i drink alcohol which for 15 years I havent drank because it brought one on everytime I would.

I always go to some hole in the wall doctor and they give me bactrum and if I'm lucky something to ease the pain. Now the pain never stops. It feels like my whole body is an abscessed tooth. Is there anyone in the Georgia area that knows of a competent Dr. in or around Atlanta. I live in Marietta at the moment 32 years old on disability, worked as long as I could in spite of my pain. My thyroid is also out..completely..taking armour and iodine for that now so hopefully that is helping.
Hope this is helpful. I know what it is like to live with severe pain. I have POTS, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome and have tried lots of pain meds over the last 13 years. For the last six months, I have been using Fioricet for migraines, tension headaches, and for pain in general. It has worked better than anything else I have ever taken (Flexeril, Baclofen, Ibuprofen 800, Tylenol w/Codeine, Maxalt, and maybe others I have forgotten....).
I have searched several different forums on the net and see the same story which is referred ear pain , neck and or head stiffness and pain and a myriad of other symptoms in each case the patient is seen by his GP given a course of antibiotics the pain never goes away is then sent to an ENT or dentist so forth and so on . So far there hasn't been one positive diagnosis and in some cases dentists have referred patients to oral surgeons for needless wisdom tooth extraction.
She had a bladder infection and was just finishing an antibiotic when her rash showed up it quickly turned into severe joint pain and hives. The joint pain would migrate from one spot to another. One day she can not walk and bend her knees the next she seems to be fine. We are going to meet with a rhumetoid specialist tomorrow. I would like to know what outcomes you experienced with your son.
I two started off with pain in my neck, then it traveled to buttocks and down my leg. My fibromyalgia flared as did my Interstatial Cystities at the same time I had a brake out of Herpese on my Hip. So much pain. I started taking the valtrex as soon as I noticed the blisters starting, but the pain in awfull. Was hoping someone knew if there was anything to put on the blister to releave the pain in that area.
I used to get the pains in the right side of my face, ear and temple. My doctor prescribed Ativan for night for one week and the pain disapeared. Have a chat with your GP. Take care.
