Fibromyalgia and tender points

Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia and tender points

fibromyalgia

Avatar f tn I have tender points ALL over my body. My Dr says it's not Fibromyalgia. The spots don't hurt unless they're pressed on, then they feel like bruises (but nothing is there) My tinder points don't match the Fibromyalgia points, and I have about10 times the number of spots that are on the picture. Also from knees down almost ALL of the muscles hurt to touch, not just spots) There's no rash or fever that I'm aware of. This has been going on for years. Any thoughts????
Avatar m tn Can you have tender points (and I have far more then 16 tender points) on your body, but it not be Fibromyalgia? PS these points have been like that for months of not years. I regually have massage to relieve muscle tightness. Googled it but couldn't find a another cause for tender points...? PS - thought the rash might be rosacea, but not reacting to triggers that I am aware of, not going really red anyway. PPS - if it is the start of fibromyalgia, how can I prevent the onset of pain?
Avatar n tn Diagnosis of Fibromyalgia is based on the presence of tender points. These tender spots are particularly located in the neck, back, shoulders and hips. There are 18 points on body for tenderness in patients of this condition. Diagnosis criteria is that pain at 11 of the points may indicate fibromyalgia. The tenderness in these points is worse in the mornings and has been described as flu-like, burning, throbbing, aching, or stabbing.
803872 tn?1239377762 ve looked at point heavily towards the tender points. I have a few tender points that match well, but not the minimum requirement and I have a lot of other symptoms that arent typically mentioned.
1168938 tn?1327154232 ALSO my friend has fibromyalgia and she has all your symptoms lol. Mind you though she has tender points, do you have tender points if not it cant be FMS. Check out M.E. though because a lot of your symptoms match. (and MS actually).
Avatar f tn Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes pain and stiffness throughout the tissues that support and move the bones and joints. Pain and localized tender points occur in the muscles, particularly those that support the neck, spine, shoulders and hips. The disorder includes widespread pain, fatigue and sleep disturbances.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I was just wondering is it normal for the tender points to be lumpy ( Like a small lump in the muscle under the skin ) ?
Avatar f tn Other possible co morbidities are hypothyroidism, Lyme disease and sleep disorders. Pain points are called tender points, usually found in soft tissues on the back of the neck, shoulders, sternum, lower back, hips and knees. It is a deep aching, radiating, shooting or burning pain causing aches and stiffness in the body.
Avatar f tn Well it does feel like they have helped, but what I am wondering is will I be able to have all my tender points injected at the same time??? Then I would feel GR8... Can anyone let me know if its possible. I am also having physio to try and help with my walking as I find walking very painfull because my hips feel so stiff and sore. I have also tried Amitripilene but stopped them as I couldnt cope with waking up feeling like I had a bad hangover...
Avatar n tn Pain with skin and pressure points can indeed be a sign of fibromyalgia. Please stop back and give us an update.
Avatar f tn My rheumatologist barely tested me for anything, didnt really do the tender points, and said it was all in my head. Went to my neurologist and he did the tender points, etc and then I got my fibro diagnosis ( granted at 22 this is a bit of a blow). I told him I was sent to him for a second opinion and it didnt seem to change his answers, id say make it known that your other doctor did NOT do the tender points and see how it goes. Good luck!
Monster These areas feel painful with even slight pressure and are called tender points (figure 1). Many patients with fibromyalgia feel that their joints are swollen, although there is no visible inflammation of the joints (arthritis). ### FIBROMYALGIA TESTS — There are no specific laboratory or imaging tests used to diagnose fibromyalgia.
Avatar n tn This treatment has been found to be safe and effective for treating fatigue , pain, muscle spasm, morning stiffness, and reduction of number of tender points in fibromyalgia . Laser therapy, also called cold laser therapy or low level laser therapy (LLLT), involves the application of low-intensity lasers to specific areas or so called Tender points of the body in Fibromyalgia patients to stimulate endorphins.
Avatar f tn Today I had to go to town and while driving I had the most sharp pain in the muscle part of my upper arms. Once I got home and took med they eased up quite a bit. Is this from fibromyalgia?
Avatar m tn Look up diagnosing Fibromyalgia- there is 18 specific tender points which are painful in ppl with it and other criteria needed to be diagnosed as Fibro. Does she have inflammation at the joints and increase pain with activity? This might suggest arthritis. I would suggest to keep seeing her doctor and following through with tests. This may take time bc they have to rule things out. Blood work can also show there may be a systemic problem, so probably a necessary test here.
Avatar f tn I have pain in all 18 tender points and am unable to work because of the pain. How do you know you have the symptoms? How did you learn about fibro? If you are constantly reading about illnesses, you can sometimes convince yourself that you have that problem. Hope things work out for you.
Avatar n tn These are not the same as tender points that are related to fibromyalgia. These trigger points can be extremely painful and can form in almost any muscle. The chronic form is called Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS) Many FMS patients have both. Do you suspect your physical activity may have something to do with your back pain?
Avatar f tn A diagnosis of fibromyalgia may still be made if a person has less than the 11 of the required tender points so long as they have widespread pain and many of the common symptoms and associated syndromes connected to fibromyalgia, such as sleep disorders and irritable bowel syndrome. If a patient has some symptoms but does not meet the tender point criterion, a diagnosis of "possible fibromyalgia syndrome" may be assigned.
Avatar f tn i have been to a rheumy and a neurologist both----and neither one of them tested teh 18 tender points---and i went to them specifically for fibromyalgia. i have read most of the symptoms and it is like i wrote the book on symptoms myself.---ok, there are some of the symptoms i don't have---and i have some symptoms that probably aren't listed.
Avatar m tn t forget that Fibromyalgia is not a specific disease, but rather a syndrome and there are specific diagnostic criteria to be met (they have changed recently from just going by the 11 out of 18 trigger/tender points for dx). Just do a search for the new criteria. Fluctuating symptoms of headaches, pain and fatigue are not specific only to fibromyalgia. Best of luck with the Neurologist. Best wishes.
1359894 tn?1277584619 Mine mostly started in my neck and shoulder and I definitely feel pain in the tender points on the top of my arm, the outside of my knee and in my rib cage. Insist that your doctor rule out all things including this. Ask to be seen by a rheumatologist as they are the best at diagnosing and treating. Good luck. Diagnosis of fibromyalgia requires a history of a least three months of widespread pain, and pain and tenderness in at least 11 of 18 tender-point sites.
